Actors/actresses Shaun Baker, T. C. Carson, Kim Coles, Erika Alexander and John Henton (all from ‘Living Single’ fame) attended the TBS’ ’10 Items or Less’ season three premiere party at the Aqua Restaurant and Lounge on Tuesday in Beverly Hills.
The group came out to support Kim Coles and her role on the hit TBS show. All we are missing are Queen Latifah and Kim Fields.

Yep. That is what happened to John Henton. He was in a terrible car accident and almost died as a result. He came out alive, but his face was disfigured and therefore had to be reconstructed.

What it was that John Henton was in an accident and facial injuries that almost resulted with him losing his eyesight thus the eyeglasses. He stated this in a(n) interview several years ago while he was co-starring on “The Hughley’s”. That is when he had the accident during the show’s airing.

Living single was one of the greatest all black cast show that ever existed. I will always love that show, its sad to note now that shows like dont exist anymore and probably never will, ever again. The 90′s and the 80′s was like the most funnest times to grow up….nowadawys its all about SEX SEX SEX…REALITY WACK FAKE AZZ GIRL BASHING SHOWS….MONEY POWER BLING BLING seems to be one everybody minds….EVEN the N network show teenager shows in a more adult content…when we had cute cut shoes like MOESHA AND FRESH PRINCE OR FAMILY MATTERS…man…MTV has gone comepletly wack…VH-1 has gone reality show crazy…BET is like the most black bashing ghetto hot azz mess of a station on tv now…its just TV or hardly anything…especially the movies arent fun anymore.

Yeah, they were saying that John was driving drunk that night. They say his accident was so bad that his feet went straight thru the floorboards of his car. I’m glad he made it out alive too. He’s still a cutie though! Glad to see the cast supporting Kim. She looks great by the way.

I totally agree with most of the comments. Number 15 u are so right about those television stations. I turned on Keyshia Cole last night. It is a mockery what they have black people doing for a few dollars. I mean they actually think they are superstars with an acting career. It is so bad you never really see Keyshia they focus on the ignorance of the mother and daughter. Not funny at all just plain sad.

Aw, it’s good to see the cast (well most of them) together again. This takes me back to my childhood. I used to love Living Single. I didn’t know Kim (Synclair) had a new show. Good for her. I remember Living Single came on right after Martin and then New York Undercover came on right after Living Single. The 90′s was the best era for black television. It’s a shame how black sitcoms have fallen off. I can’t believe someone gave Flava Flav a sitcom, and that it’s actually still on. I saw a commercial for it earlier. That show is awful and embarassing.

John like someone said above was in a bad (almost deadly) car crash and it messed up his eyes so he’s lucky to look as good and be live. It was quite awhile ago (during the Hughley show days).

E-mail Print Link You can hear it in John Henton’s voice. The fun-loving “Hughleys” TV co-star is more than sincere when he says, “I’m just glad to still be here.”
That’s because last year Henton was involved in a near-fatal car accident that destroyed his left eye socket, shattered both of his legs, broke nine teeth and ripped up his stomach.
Recently, Henton spoke candidly to JET about the horrific accident and how he’s bounced back.
“God didn’t want me right then,” explains Henton during a phone interview from his hometown of Cleveland. “That’s all I can say. It was a wake-up call. I take things a lot more seriously now, especially family matters.”

Moesha star dies in car crash Life changed for Henton dramatically last September after he was involved in a severe car accident that totaled the “little sporty, speedy” Acura NSX he had since 1994. No one else was injured in the accident when Henton’s car, which had been estimated at going 100 mph, hit a brick wall.
“The cast had finished taping the Halloween show and we all went to a party. I was drinking and having a good time and that’s the last thing I remember,” he says. “My car ended up against a wall and my feet went through the floor board.”
Henton says he “didn’t wake up until Sunday and the accident was on a Thursday night.”
When he arrived at the hospital, he was in grave condition. “My head was just a mess. When they started doing the plastic surgery, my publicist went home to get pictures because that’s how bad I looked. She had to show them what I should look like because I looked nothing like myself. When the doctor says to you that he has not even seen anyone make it into the hospital with the kind of injuries I had, then get out of the hospital in two weeks, you know that was a blessing.”
Amazingly, Henton only missed four episodes of “The Hughleys” because several shows had already been taped prior to the accident. The cast tapes three shows a month.
“I went back to work in November. I had walking casts. I was just hobbling around the set,” he laughs. “I wore glasses, and if you look at my feet you might be able to see the black walking casts that I bad on. I didn’t walk around. I just sat in this chair and still threw the jokes out. I said just give me my glasses and a whole bunch of makeup and I’ll be fine.”
In 1993 Henton began working on the long-running TV sitcom “Living Single.” He portrayed the lovable handyman Overton Wakefield Jones. When the show was cancelled in 1998, that same year Henton was fortunate enough to land another role on “The Hughleys,” which has since been renewed for a fourth season.
A few months ago Henton hit the comedy circuit once again to do some stand-up dates. His performances have been packing them in. It seems that he hasn’t missed a beat. The good-humored performer even includes his accident into his stand-up routine.
Henton says he never questions why the accident happened to him. “It was my fault. I don’t ask the question, Why me? It’s me because I did something stupid and now I have to pay for it. Anytime I get depressed, I would watch something on TV or read something in the newspaper and it’ll be about someone else in an accident who is in a wheelchair. I’m saying it could have been worse.”
Recovery is an “on-going process,” he says, but that is expected. “I’m walking and limping around. My legs might hurt, but, hey, I can still use them. I can get better. There’s no time for a pity party. I have too much stuff to do.”
