A coroner’s report released on Friday reveals that Dr. Dre’s son, Andre Young Jr. died from an overdose of heroin and morphine on August 23. He was 20. The coroner ruled his death as accidental and says the case is closed.
According to reports, Young returned home from hanging out with friends that night and his mother, Jenita Porter, recalled hearing him snoring around 5:30 a.m.
When she checked on him in his room around 10 a.m., she found him unresponsive and called 911. Paramedics pronounced him dead at their Woodland Hills, California home.
JOHN TRAVOLTA’S SON

John Travolta’s son, Jett, suffered a seizure at his family’s vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. According to reports, he fell and hit his head on the bathtub. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he died on the scene. He was 16.
Named for his dad’s love of flying, Jett had a history of seizures after being diagnosed at age 2 with Kawasaki disease, an illness that leads to inflammation of the blood vessels in young children.
Travolta’s attorney, Michael Ossi, said that the teen’s death “was completely out of the blue”, and add added: “This is the worst day of John’s life.”
We here are Concrete Loop extend our condolences to both of these young men’s families.

Sad. People need to be more aware of drugs. I feel sorry for both parents especially John since his child probably died from apmething that he was born with. Dre’s soon may have some issues to drive him to drugs. Nobody has came out and said that he didn’t have a history of drug use. Either way RIP
It is truly sad,John travolta loved his son and so did dr. dre.You know we raise our children the best way we can and hope they grow up to be respectful citizens in this society. Some times they vere off,go woth the wrong crowd and end up like this.We cant always blame the parents. I know Dr Dre did some dirt back in the day but dont blame him for his sons death that is just wrong!!!!!!May their souls rest in peace!!!!
Mr 4.0 , did he write that he is trying to become SOMETHING not somebody on 46 and on 47 he wrote about Anna Nicole and put a HIM. OH WELL, Mr 4.0 I hope you know the difference between him and her.
R.I.P.
I know John and Dre are sick to death.
God Bless.
@ 46, 47 Meme.
MEME, except for the grace of God, we have all done dumb things…even the president-elect had his days of experimenting with drugs. He got older and he wised up before the “rocks” fell on him. Baby eagle are always found dead just below the nest.
You will learn that the mistakes of our youth, are just human nature and no one is exempt from spreading their wings. Someday, God may bless you to have children of your own and you will watch them grow and you will know their hearts. When your children make mistakes, you will not want to hear people calling them dumb. Then and only then will you fully understand why others are sadden by these sudden deaths.
Sooner or later, you’ll come clean and stop saying things like you have “no help, no scholarship, no parents”…Bull$#!T. You getting money from somewhere! Somebody’s spraying some oil on yo a$$! Come clean! Stop trying to make your African a$$ look good at the expense of others. You’re no better than anyone else! Just a foolish liar! “No help” my a$$!
Who paid for the computer you’re blogging on? Who helped you come to America? Who died for your civil rights? Did you get into college on your looks?
I know that all Africans are not arrogant, but we’ve seen these “high-minded” attitudes over and over again on CL. So, let me appologise in advance to my African brothers and sisters who see clearly. But, when I hear someone talking about their great achievements, multi-languages and calling people dumb…It’s always leads back to Africans. Plus, the name “Meme” is kind of a give away.
Now…Ms. 4.0! You get an “F” for interpersonal relations.
@ 65- Oh my gosh, you really lit into her! Everything you said on point, I couldn’t have said it better myself!
MEME get a BRAIN, it’s not healthy to speak such negativity about the dead! Your 4.0 means nothing without common sense. You won’t make it pass where you’re at without people skills hon!
- This blog ain’t about you noways, I had a 3.8 in undergrad, and I have 2 classes left before getting my MBA with a 3.5 GPA, but I know enough about life to know that is sometimes just sucks!
To both of these fathers, I am deeply sorry for your loss.
This is very sad news. My condolences go out to both families.
I feel badly for both families. The young Andre does look very sad in the above photo, and even if Dr Dre was active in his life, this addiction was a problem. So sad so young. Hope that the families being consoled. MAY BOTH YOUNG MEN RIP.
# 65 Took the words out my mouth!
Shut “MEME” down, LMAO! Seriously though, I just love how people come on here and judge others like they got a heaven or hell to put someone in, LOL.
Everyone should take note of this. We are loosing youth on the daily. Regardless of the cause of death that was someone child, brother, friend and loved one. We should not criticize people but lift up and encourage one another during these times. Life is too short for the hating and backbiting. If you have youth in your life whether if it’s your cousin, child, nephew or associate…inspire them, be present in their life and love them while they are still here. Be that positive light and example so they choose to do good works in their life. You never know when God calls for any of us.
I hope both families find strength and comfort From God in their loss.
Firstly I am not african. I am black but I am not from africa. You guys are so steriotypical towards people of other nationalities but can’t admit the bullshit your own people do. All black americans woman want to do is go to the salon to get nail and hair down to their ass when they don’t have one bit of education in their heads. And all african american men want to do is go out on the streets doing drugs, and buy impala’s on 20′s. Then yall want to sit back and wonder why white people have all the good jobs and all black with high end jobs are non american.
But whatever I don’t give a shit what you people on this board think of me. Like I said im going places. And for the record everything I have I owned myself @ 65. Not from drug money, not from selling ass, not from parents, not from scholarships. I saved money I worked for so I can come to this country to use up the facilities african americans take for granted.
I am very saddened by the tragic accident of Mr. Travolta’s son- which he is one of my fav. actors. I am praying for the soul of his son and the heartbreak of his family
I am hurt, yet disturbed by the outcome of Dr.Dre’s son…..I am prayinfg for the soul of this young man as well and the recovery of his family as well. But I still have some resolve about the situation….nevertheless, it doesn’t take away from the sadness
Can somebody PLEASE give MeMe a f*&ing cookie!!!! Are you looking for a pat on the back or something… i mean damn!!! Some nerve you have. You call African American men and women stereotypical but yet you make a stereotypical statement. What does that make you? I’m sure there are plenty of well educated, hard working people on this blog but we don’t make it a point to put others down to make ourselves look good. We don’t need to spell out our accomplishments, education, etc to the wholeworld to feel good about ourselves. Holla at me some times, I can teach you something. It’s call confidence! Humble yourself sweetheart. You’re no better than anyone else and just like it happened to Dr. Dre’s son (may he rest in peace) it can happen to you and/or someone in your family.
Oh and at MEAT #65, you are the heat for putting MeMe in her place earlier, but i see she still hasn’t learned her lesson.
I kinda agree with “MeMe” original point.
*hangs head in shame*
In regards to John Travolta’s son…I’ve heard about the Scientology comments, that that cult may have been responsible for his death due to their denial about mental illnesses.
What a shame to kick off the new year with so many losses.
@ 72 I understand what you are saying and yes I do know that there are alot of african americans who are educated and have accomplishments…but on this board…I highly dout it. And I am not spelling out my sccomplishments to make myself feel anybody….shit do you really want me to spell out the accomplishments i’ve made at my school in just one year? I don;t think concreteloop has enough space for that.
The only reason I said that I am a hard working 21 y/o with a 4.0 GPA was to get my point across. I just feel like too many priviledge african americans do dumb things with their parents money instead of using it to excel. I know everyone makes mistakes and maybe I am just jealous because I don;t have it as easy as others who take it for granted. Shit…I wish Dre was my father, I sure wouldnt be out doing drugs, I would be going for my doctor’s.
Prayers go out to both Familys..
@ # 75
Now the truth came out.
in your own words: I know everyone makes mistakes and maybe I am just jealous because I don;t have it as easy as others who take it for granted. Shit…I wish Dre was my father, I sure wouldnt be out doing drugs, I would be going for my doctor’s.
Bless your heart. Jesus does everything for a reason…. You just have to find it…
Peace…;-)
@ # 75. Well good for you. I wish you nothing but the best sista.
Breaks my heart!!!!!!!
@75 Meme
Admitting your jealously is a good first step, but you still have some serious issues to work on. Issues like worrying about what others take for granted. That’s not your business. And, wishing that Dre was your father…be careful what you with for. I’m sure those young girls wished that R. Kelly was their fathers. Do you! And, count your own blessings. Jesus is your father and he is a good provider. We receive not, because we ask not. Stop saying you have no “help”! I’ve never met you, but I know that’s not true! Where are you from? And, why do you deny your African heritage? No parents??? Come clean!!!
You need to stop ctitizing Africian Americans and be thankful for all the sacrafices made on your behalf. You came to America seeking a better life. Priviledged people of all races do dumb things with their parents money. Not just Blacks.
Jealousy, envy, lying, disrespect, greed, and judging others are all issues that you need to do some soul searching on. You shouldn’t blog until you can look at yourself in the mirror and say “thank you God for what you’ve done and what you’re gonna do in my life.” Otherwise, you have a long lonely road ahead of you. Your song will be, “I can’t get no…Satisfaction”.
Work on yourself and then work on relationships with others. Get off of your pity pot and start looking for your place in life. You may have lots of knowledge…but you lack wisdom.
You’re condition is in the heart! Love, honor, respect, wisdom, longsuffering, and faith are qualities that African Americans thrive on. And, we know instantly when someone is void of these qualities. Unlike your 4.0 achievements, these qualities cannot be learned like Biology or Chemistry. They are gifts from God given freely to those who ask for them.
Meditate on that last paragraph.
May BOTH boys rest in peace and may both fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters to them find a way to move on and maybe help others with these issues!! RIP, my condolences.
to comment on the other things..I have a sister that has an addiction and I do all I can to get her treatment and I do not enable her like others in my family do. She is 26 and a mother and if I could pick her up myself and drag her to rehab I WOULD..RIGHT NOW. been there, done that doesnt work…maybe what meme and others are trying to say is that though tragic…it could have and should have been prevented with his young age and resources and that I agree with. Maybe with this lesson Dre could give more time and money to help addicts and prevent this from happening again.
Now please can we quit arguing and just agree that this is sad for everyone involved..maybe they tried to help, maybe they ignored it hoping it would go away…they still lost someone and I couldnt imagine losing one of my 3 EVER…but I know I will work my butt off and talk to them to make sure it WONT be to DRUGS!!
and as for the name MEME my grandma and mom call me MIMI and I am not black…I am white, have 3 mixed kids by the same man and cant belive how you as black people are fighting and disrepecting eachother over something so sad that should bring you together to make a change, this is crazy
“Shit…I wish Dre was my father, I sure wouldnt be out doing drugs, I would be going for my doctor’s.”
@ MEME – did you mean Doctorate? LOL!!!!!! Girl Kill yourself!!!! PLEASE
If you’re so damn educated shouldn’t you know the levels of education.
Again, you such a fool. You need to study the history of African Americans in the USA! Take a damn history class with you educated a$$ !! That money you’re talking about that White folks have is old long money. It’s money they stole from us, using our free (slavery) labor to build their mansions, business, their acres. We are now struggling to just catch up; and we never will because they have long, old money.
Their great great grandfathers have the money to pass down to the next generation, what did our great great grandfathers have to pass down? I’m glad you asked. They had inferiority, bigotry, racism, and no wealth to pass down. So that’ what were dealing with in the USA.
WE don’t take shit for granted! I worked harder than any white person at my school for my degree, and I am working twice as harder for my MBA! You need to go back to where you came from with all that HATRED in your spirit
Study the history of Blacks before you talk about being black in America, and what we take for granted dummy!!

You can’t call for a truce and then make out landish statements! Since you are white, no one cares what you believe about black people fighting amoungt ourselves. We’ve have to fight everyday of our existence in America, so don’t be trying to act like you know the code…just because you’ve enjoyed a little black bamboo 3Xs!
MEME and MIMI are way different. MEME [MBEME] is like broken Australian aboriginal (African). MIMI is French origin. Is your name Willamina?
And, MEME never starts her sentences with: “though tragic”! So, don’t be putting words in her arrogant mouth. She called him dumb and privillaged! She showed no sympathy or remorse.
And, what makes you think that money and resources can solve drug addiction? Amy Whinehouse has millions, but when they tried to get her to go to rehab, she said NO! NO! NO! Brittney and Paris get drunk every weekend! Betty Ford (clinic) and Rush Limbaugh…heavy substance abusers.
You and MEME need to stop trippin on other people’s money. Your lives must be miserable if all you think about is the money and resources Dre has. And, how do you spend more time with a 20 year old? How do you intervene for someone who says: No! No! No!
After age 14, most young people become socially independent. You want to blame Dre, you want to blame African Americans, you want to blame your ex-husbands. But, the drug industry is alive and well…even in a recession. Rite Aids, WalGreens and Longs are springing up everyday. During a depression, people turn to drugs and drinks. Rappers like Dre depend on the drug and drink image to shop their goods.
So, if you want to stop this debate, then stop worrying about Dre’s money and show some remorse for his loss. Money and resources couldn’t save Elvis, Janis or Anna Nicole.
If you want to talk about blame…let’s talk US government, Colombian drug cartels and the trafficking through Latin America and Mexico! Andre didn’t produce the heroin of morphine.

TooMuch,
Great post! When you have the type of historical perspective that you described, it’s clear to see through all the arrogance and bull$#!T. It’s the truth that sets up free, not the things that MEME and MIMI have been watching on MTV and SNL. Chocolate News is much different from CNN and MSNBC.
The reason I “steryotyped” and I now “apologize” to Africans is bacause, I know many of them who make it to America, have that same old long money! With their countrymen suffering back home, they are now coming to America and going to Europe trying to blend in the universities like everyone else struggling to make it. But, the truth is, they have long money from the same slave trade system enjoyed by the Euro-Americans and their great-great ancestors.
Most Africans in America are well-connected. These are not the everyday, garden variety Africans you’ll see if you visit the motherland. Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy for their migration and opportunity. I just don’t like it when they boast about their GPAs and “no-help” stans.
MEME wouldn’t go into her heritage, but she tipped her hand when she said that she had “no help, no parents, and no scholarship.” If anyone can make it under those condition…and not share how they’re doing it, I have a big problem with them. Telling the truth means…telling the whole truth. Doesn’t it takes over $250,000 to earn a Doctorate? Eight or nine years of college @ $30,000/year!
Come clean MEME!! You admitted the jealousy, now admit the connection and gloat!
Well I am sorry for the things that I said and if I offended anyone.
@ MEAT many of the things that you said are indeed tru, but I don’t need to get into my personal life. But note that my parents were murdered, maybe thats why I am not sympathetic towards things that I consider dumb.
Everyone is makin me out to be something awful but the truth is I am a very giving and kind person, although I do kno that I have personal issues and I must agree that I can be irrogant and prejudice towards other black, namely african americans. But that is something I am working on.
@ TOOMUCH, you correcting all of my mistakes is not hurting me one bit, actually is funny because I know you will never ever in your life be as smart as I am. My english is not the best, perhaps that is the only reason I desided to take some language and algebra classes to become more familiar with the U.S terms and ways because god knows I can teach these american lectures a thing a two.
So it’s 2009 and this TGAVB goof shows up just to in time to remind “we as black people” how to behave. You just gotta love white people lol. It always kills me how dumb white broads think they’re experts on African issues just because they’ve choked on a gang of black d*ck. Who are these lost slaves still shacking up with these soulless whores anyhow?
@83 MEAT
Thanks for the great post comment! I appreciate it. I really do like your way of thinking! I’m very enlightend by your comments
Are you a female with this kind of thinking? If you’re a black man with all that kind of knowledge- I’m proud as a black sista!!!
@MEME
This will be my last post to you hon so LISTEN UP, you’re LISTENING?
OK – I am already smarted than you, just trust me on that one
In one sentence you appologize for your ignorance and arrogance, and in the next you attempt to tell me( a college grad, who teaches, who sits on the Board of a college, who has kids and a husband, who works for the biggest not-for- profit in the America, that my correcting you is laughable! You need some mental help because clearly you’re bipolar.
I was only trying to help you connect the levels of education, you clearly were confused. I’ve gotten an excellent education from one of the whitest universities in the South! I’ve lived in America all my life, I’ve lived in the racist South all my life! I know what it is to be a Black American.
Perhaps you should figure it out!
Well said TOOMUCH and MEAT! Pleases me to see people willing speak positive and have understanding where there’s much negativity on these blogs! I just wish these individuals would not so quick to label and stereotype ALL African Americans based on what they see, read and assume…
Most people on the site would have gone off but you two kept it cool. Love it!
@ 88 MY ROLE
Thanks! I feel you, I’m all about the positive and uplifting our people. I think we need it, we need to love one and other. I really try my best to only post nice comments. I hate it when everyone is dragging for others on these blogs.
Let me get back to work, I’m an Accountant, and we have more work than a little bit at the begining of the year! Thanks again, and you also keep promoting the positive!!
MEAT seems to be a very positive person and I can relate to some of the things that she said but TOOMUCH is still a huge joke to me.
@ TOOMUCH
“OK – I am already smarted than you, just trust me on that one”
And this is coming from someone who is so hooked on correcting my every mistake. Sweetheart since you are so educated and doing well for yourself then do you and stop watching other people. I know who I am, I am happy with myself. My opionions are my opinions and someone like you will never matter to me. You come on here knocking me but you turn around and do the same, perhaps over doing it. Nobody cares if you attended one of the whitest schools in the world. You will still never in your be as educated as I am. Knocking my english doesnt make you smart than someone. English is actually the language that i am worst at…I am more fluent in 4 other languages other than english and I think I am doing an okay job because you can understand me enough to respond.
@ MEME
No more to say to you- You’re a fool! LOL
@ MEME. For you to write about the accomplishments that you have attained in a year , has nothing to do with the topic at hand. I do not know the educational institution that you are currently enrolled in but i suggest that you take on another course or read a book in your history in case you dont know :BLACK HISTORY. There are many accomplished AFRICAN AMERICANS who care a great deal about their education and their personal apperance , just because you go to school and at the same time youre not financially able to do your hair dont get ignorant and talk about who does what , cause thats being sterotypical and ignorant for no reason. Its African Americans like yourself who forget where you came from and how you got there. Yes you are intelligent and very accomplished at such a young age but at the same time in order for you to go to school and receive an equal oppurtunity to get where at African Americans like Dr. Martin Luther King jr , Rosa Parks etc and many others during the civil rights movement paved that way so your 4.0 ass could sit in the seats you sit in now. Its up to you to continue to do that and you are but do not insult the intellgence of the fellow bloggers on this site who are just as educated than you , if not more when you have yet to understand that ignorance takes you know where. No matter how many Phd’s you attain, your still African American and in the corporate world they will not consider you their equal , even though you worked hard to get where your at and you know where you wanna go. Learn your history and humble your self , ps : you never get anywhere in life on your own and if you havent learnt that take a moment to self reflect and by that i mean ; GET YOUR HEAD OUT YOUR ASS AND STOP TALKING SHIT CUZ THATS ALL YOUR DOING
