♫ THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW ♫

♫ Jay-Z – When the Money Goes (full) – listen
A lot of folks jumped the gun when they said that this was from Jay-Z’s upcoming project, The Blueprint 3, but really “When the Money Goes” is from the recording sessions from American Gangster. I used to listen to AG from front to back and I definitely could have seen this song on the album, but I’m sure there were reasons why the left it off the set. I’m eager to see what Jay is going come up with for this new project, though. There’s been a lot of talk about the producers being used.

♫ Lil’ Wayne – Hot Revolver (full) – listen
Here’s another one of the rock tracks from the sessions for Lil’ Wayne’s new album, The Rebirth, due out April 7th. It’s pretty interesting that all these rappers and transitioning into singing. All this genre-bending might become a little confusing. I’m interested to know how much of this guitar Wayne is actually playing on this new album. I can’t say that I don’t like the material, because I think that “Hot Revolver” and “Prom Queen” are very well written songs. I just don’t know if I understand why Wayne wants to take this direction.

♫ Ryan Leslie – Gibberish (full) – listen
Ryan Leslie drowned his voice out in auto-tune for this new song, “Gibberish,” which is a track from his upcoming debut album. Is this song called “Gibberish” because you can’t understand anything throughout the song? I wasn’t sure what I was listening to vocally. I was rather confused. Other than that, I like some of the tricks Leslie does with his voice. His falsetto is undeniable. He does it better than his protege Cassie. The new album hits stores February 10th.

♫ Sean Kingston – Power of Money (full) – listen
I may just never have noticed before, but it seems like RedOne gets so much work these days! But then again, why wouldn’t he? “Just Dance,” the song he produced for Lady Gaga has been the #1 in the country for a little while now. In any event, Sean Kingston is still busy working on his second album. There was spell where he was making a lot of videos, being quite the show-off, with all of his jewelry. “Power of Money” hasn’t been confirmed as the first single, so maybe it’s just some leaked material to show us that he’s working.

luvin jay’s song…sean kingston need to sit down

  2. BAD BAD BITCH

I remember hearing Hot Revolver last year. I loved it. I can’t wait for Wayne’s album. Not interested in the others!

  3. Sexie 2 Da Tee

What in da hell is tha Gibberish about!!!!

JayZ and Lil Wayne can do no wrong in my book.

I don’t know who the Leslie guy is???

  4. Jay-Z- its cool.

Wayne- I LOVE you but Ima SICK of the auto-tune!!!

The others didnt even feel like listening too. :|

  5. Emmanuel

After seeing “NOTORIOUS” I can honestly say Hip-Hop has change so much. It’s change to the point where it’s; no more! All of the music these “Rappers” are releasing nowadays is straight POP music. Hip-Hop is dead and that needs not to be said anymore. I’m so happy, unlike the newer generation I was able to enjoy my teen years with the last of the best music.

Wayne could jump off a clip! His bars are so weak his rockstar act is just weakER! He’s the equivalence of a C00N! White people ain’t buying that ish. He’s just going to kill rock music even more than the bands that are out now.

The BIG QUESTION: Who’s going to save Hip-Hop?

  6. Nothing But Love

Why is Jay z still rapping??? can’t this man just bow out gracefully…

  7. Emmanuel

    Something I forgot:

The auto-tune is so played out it’s ridiculous. If you want to me known for originality please…..come with something more original.

    Sidenote:

I like the fact that when Biggie and Pac was alive they were always proclaimed as the best rappers in Hip-Hop history by the people. Unlike Wayne they never had to yell out on a track “Best Rapper Alive” because they just always knew they were the best at what they did. Him stating just make him look more weaker, because everyone know Hova is the best rapper alive. Then T.I. and Young Jezzy.

Brian you should post “Wetter” by Twista; honestly the hottest new rap track I heard all year. It’s kinda like a remix to “Get It Wet.” Mid-West is coming back hard this time.

  8. J

i like prom queen, even though i didnt think i would

  9. swd

LIL WAYNE….so dissapointing! THIS AUTOTUNE HAS TO STOP. i know its the new trend in music, but its WAY overused.

I respect him for tryihg, but he should rap, not sing with a computer modified voice.

  10. Ultimate Kanye Fan

    @ Brian

Thanks for clearing that up with Jay cause I thought that song was off the new album he working on

I think Lil Wayne may have always liked Rock music so he decided to write something he has always wanted to do and hey I’m not mad at him This Song Is HOTTT!!!

  11. swd

And UGH! I just listened to this Ryan Leslie crap…and HE is using this AUTOTUNE CRAP. Why would someone who has a nice, unique voice drown it out and end up sounding just like everyone else. I JUST DONT GET IT!

  12. Ultimate Kanye Fan

    EMMANUEL QUIT YOUR CRYING PLEASE,

    Twista Wetter is HOTTT!!

  13. Sparkle Sayz

    I’m really feeling the Jay-Z a lot.

  14. fathou

    Tired of those robot voices

  15. There is nothing special about Jay-Z’s new track from the lyrics to the beat.
He needs to bow out gracefully. It’s like watching Jordan when he was playing for the Wizards. Damn homie!

  16. nesia

What the hell is Ryan singing about ? i can’t understand anything he is saying awful!

  17. real@aol.com

JAY Z’S BEAT SOUND LIKE BUBBLE GUM!

  18. Jay’s track is cool, next to everything else!

  19. Preston

Jay’s song is alright , i can see myself blastin it in my car ..

I’m not a Wayne fan but i have to admit i like his new direction , it’s different
and i think a lot of people don’t like what is different , Beyonce , Kanye and now
Wayne aren’t afraid to step out of the box and explore different mediums in the endless genres of music , you have to respect artist that take a huge chance on something that could either be a failure or a success.

I like Ryan leslie song but i’m sick of everybody using that Vocoder (auto-tune). when a few people are doing it , it’s cool but now everybody is jumpin on it which is making all those kind of songs annoying

Sean Kingston seems to stay in the same kind of music all of his songs sounds the same but it seems to work for him , once you hit the game you have to keep trying to outdo yourself or else your stuck with the same kind of music.

  20. platinum glam

Jay going to keep it up and go out with a cane instead of a bang. loves him though.

  21. BAARBIEE

ii LOVEEE weezys track i also ma in lovee wif prom queen!…i love the fact that niggas like weezy n kanye are changin up their style and game into sumthign different from the rest you know?…and so what if they use auto tone its HOTT!!…as for jay-z’s joint i like it ALOT…but i neve runderstand jay…umm ryan leslies song is aight but like rrbody else said i dnt get a wrd hes sayingg but maybe thats y its called GIBBERISH..lol…and sean kingstons track is wackk..they all sound the exact same and its gnt really boring…he need to try something neww:D:D:D

  22. GoingBackToCali

Is there anything that Brian DOES understand about music?…

  23. Tam -E

    @ 7 Emmanuel

I couldn’t agree with you more after I watched the Notorious Movie I saw the big gap of what was hip hop then and the crap that is being released now. I can’t F***ing stand Lil Wayne, he’s a disgrace to hip hop nothing he’s doing sounds a least bit original or makes any sense. I can’t believe there are people saying this man is the best rapper alive. His rock album is going to be straight GARBAGE and I for one will not be supporting it. I was glad that I grew up in the time of B.I.G. and Pac they created good music. Why don’t you guys listen to Juicy by B.I.G. and then turn on Wayne’s revolver track … you will see what a real artist is and what pop garbage artist is.

  24. Chriss

    #24
That’s bogus but I do agree with you. LOL! I never really get any use of Brian’s opinion on a song, because he never has one. He’ll always just give brief information ether on the person or the song that he post. He never really states anything about how hot the production is and rarely even tells you who produced it. I rather stick to RnBXclusive.

  25. STLCHICK

I actually am feeling Lil Wayne’s song. Honestly, it’s a good rock song. It would be better if somebody else was singing it but it really is a good rock song.

    I like Jay-Z’s song.

I couldn’t really get into the gibberish jump off tho. Too much auto tune lol.

  26. ButtaBaby

    That Jay-z song is raw

Don’t really care to even listen to da others

Oh and “crybaby” thanks 4 puttin me up on dat Twista joint

CL I almost died last night when I saw dat background…don’t be puttin my baby out there like dat

  27. Jay-Z – Absolutely adored it! Jay is too hot for words..HOV!

Lil Wayne – He needs to disappear, point blank. The autotune crap is soo played out now. And you can’t even understand what the hell he’s saying more than half the time. All he does is quack and yell “Young Moola Baby”. I’m tired of this negro.

  28. BlahBlahBlah

Ryan’s CD is the truth…Different. I hope he gets the play he deserves. Listen to “Quicksand”…slammin’ !!!!

  29. Rap has become a new genre. I don’t think it should even be considered rap. Music nowadays is terrible, which is why I’m slowly veering my attention back to the old school music.

Ryan Leslie – What Thee Hell was that. I hope we weren’t suppose to understand what he was saying because I was right on that track. Does he really think that would be a hit? Honestly. Do these artist not notice that they’re just being FOLLOWERS by talking in autotune. T-Pain must feel like the hottest thang in music since everyone is “jocking his fresh.”

  30. BlahBlahBlah

It’s called “Gibberish”, because that’s what it is…Duh.
For all those people who can’t remember the words…LOL.

  31. SHUT UP!

I guessing no one can understand what Ryan Leslie is saying is probably the reason he name his song GIBBERISH!!!! I not sure tho, just a wild guess…

  32. H-Town Chic***

I love Jigga!!! I don’t care if he keeps rapping til old N cripple, I don’t give a damn he’s still the greatest alive.

  33. princesstp

Although im a jay-z fan , i have to say the song was garbage and very boring

Lil wayne’s song actually sounded really great , i guess hes 1 of the few artist that can crossover

Ryan leslie although he drowned his voice in auto tune the song is actually a really good song it kinda of reminds me of male r&b circa 1999-2000

sean kingston song sounds like all his other songs..next

  34. okay......

Ryan Leslie is the truth! he actually has a youtube clip of him creating this song and others. That little trumpet he uses is the buisness!!

  35. myopia

Whatever happend to Jay’s retirement? Another one full of s***.

  36. TeTe(not logged in)

i cant listen to any right now :(

but that wayne song, Hot Revolver has been out since last year…i love that song, much more than Prom Queen which still has to grow on me

  37. whatever

damn, this Jay-z haters getting on my nerve!
I’m so glad Jay is still on top and shows that he is the best rapper alive.
The song is hot! Jigga is great!

  38. pms

Camel face, sit your ugggggllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy old asssss down!

  39. Nothing But Love

    @ #24 and #26

Thats what i’ve been saying for longest!!! Brian’s reviews are always about NOTHING!!! his reviews make no sense whatsoever, they never tell you what to expect from the song its just pure nosense he spews..

  40. CIARA 'NEVER EVER' F/ JEEZY DEBUTS 1/30 ON ACCESS GRANTED

    Ryan Leslie is a genius.

  41. cocoa49

don’t like known of them…..can somebody please look for hiphop and call me when you find it…..sigh

  42. 4000 words

Brian needs to stick with being a ‘black socialite’ because writing about music is not his forte.

Angel please give the job to me (I write for an award winning University magazine, and music is my passion) LOL. I still love CL despite some of its errs.

  43. decaturATL404

lil wayne’s song wouldve been fye if he could actually sing.i think he should give it 2 drake.drake would kill it.

  44. School's In Session

smh. that’s how Ryan Leslie references his tracks. He records the melody of the song in “gibberish” then goes back and writes it to that melody. Brian, wtf are you doing dude?

  45. REALeyes

    AND FOR EVERYONE..

STOP WRITING ABOUT BRIAN AND POST ABOUT THE DAMN SONGS.. HOLY..

COMPLAINING ABOUT IT IS SO TIRED..

    REALeyes.

  46. Lena

I LOVEEEDDDDD JAYYYYYY SONG!!!! I love him…he could do NO wrong!!!! Appreciate Good Music when you hear it!!!!

Why does everyone want jay to retire??? I would rather listen to Jay-Z, Common, Talib, Kanye, T.I to name a few who have songs with MEANING, then some Souljah Boy who talks about some damn Bird Walk!!!

Hip-Hop is not about coming out with the next dance craze with a song to go with it!!! I have to agree with #7 hip-hop music is really going nowhere nowadays!!! I think the rappers like Jay, nas, Common, Talib tried to save Hip-hop but society just wants dance crazed music!!!!I just wish REAL Hip-Hop came back out!!!! JUST MY OPINION!!!!

  47. wameezy

Wow Giberish is amazing i really like the way the mastered version turned out i remember hearing a snippet of it Ryan leslie is such a underrated artist!!!

  48. ANDRE

LMAO all of you “so called” music lovers need to stop with all the hip-hop is dead bull the reaason why hip-hop is dead is not because of artists like lil wayne or kanye west its dead because of people like soulja boi who come up with these silly songs that have no substance and are just catchy. As, far as wayne goes continue to do ya thing be an artist and a true artist dosent have to stick to one genre of music, people espically black people need to be a lil more open-minded when it comes to music and if you dont like it then dont say anthing about it because lil wayne isnt going to stop what he is doing

  49. HUH?!!!!

when is ryan leslie’s album coming out?!!?!

this dude is a genius!! i’ve never heard one of his songs that i didn’t like.

him, the dream, and t-pain are bringing back non-singing a55 singers and i love it.

yes, we know they don’t have the greatest voices but they have a wonderful ear for melody.

and i actually think that ryan can sing b/c he reminds me of bilal “sometimes” (a great bilal song by the way).

    but thanks bryan for posting.

  50. Liyah

I think the Jay song is cool because you can hear his creativity manifesting – one take Hov? Well, he is “one of” the coldest in the game now.

I think it’s brilliant to do what they do – spitting from the top of their head. Him messing up is what made me listen closer. It’s an ok song, but the lyrics mean that much more – again – creativity in motion!

  51. KM

    WHATEVER!

N*E*R*D HAS BEEN DOING WHAT LIL’ WAYNE JUST STARTED FOR YEARS.

LIL WAYNE DOES IT AND NOW ITS COOL? PLEASE!!!!!!!

AND THESE SIMPLETON FANS FALL FOR IT….

  52. MRS. SK8BOARD P (AK AND BK STAN)

Jay-Z…love it, love the beat and the flow
Lil’ Wayne…need to stop, but the beat is hot
Ryan Leslie…ima HUGE fan, and he’s mad talented, but that song is not hot to me
    Sean Kingston..couldn’t hear it..

  53. MRS. SK8BOARD P (AK AND BK STAN)

@ # 53 KM..that’s how it is, the underrated acts never get credit for what they started or the trend they set…but when the overrated acts do it..it’s all of sudden fly) it happens all the time..

  54. Kvirgo

really lovin the Jay-z its my fav already … and already on repeat !!!

  55. Stacy

Love Jay-Z ‘s track . It seems like Ryan Leslie’s is in reverse though , it could have been nice but what’t the point of a nice track recorded in reverse ??!!

  56. *«Solid Rich Girl»*

Anything Jay-Z gets on(music wise)he kills it and doesn’t have to try hard.Lil Wayne will have a dope ass album period.I can’t wait for The Rebirth to come out!! R-Les is a crazy writer and producer. He has a dope voice and I really like the song.He could sing to me all day

  57. chrystel

dammnnnnnnn. im really really really really really feelin weezys new project. its so fresh! so so so so fresh! i absolutely loved it. but i cant lie i like carter 3 weezy more. though the step in the rock genre is step i definitely couldve saw comin if i wouldve thought about it, rap weezy sounds more natural. and though he is gonna lose a lot of fans such as my older brother, who certainly wasnt feelin 808s and heartbreak, so i highly highly doubt he’ll enjoy the rebirth given a few tracks, lil wayne will certainly gain more fans. and this album, unlike 808s and heartbreak will be a huge success and might surpass c3s success.. though i cant really predict whether it will do a million in a week like the c3, i could see it happening.. but will it happen? time will tell.
