♫ THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW ♫

♫ Jay-Z – When the Money Goes (full) – listen
A lot of folks jumped the gun when they said that this was from Jay-Z’s upcoming project, The Blueprint 3, but really “When the Money Goes” is from the recording sessions from American Gangster. I used to listen to AG from front to back and I definitely could have seen this song on the album, but I’m sure there were reasons why the left it off the set. I’m eager to see what Jay is going come up with for this new project, though. There’s been a lot of talk about the producers being used.

♫ Lil’ Wayne – Hot Revolver (full) – listen
Here’s another one of the rock tracks from the sessions for Lil’ Wayne’s new album, The Rebirth, due out April 7th. It’s pretty interesting that all these rappers and transitioning into singing. All this genre-bending might become a little confusing. I’m interested to know how much of this guitar Wayne is actually playing on this new album. I can’t say that I don’t like the material, because I think that “Hot Revolver” and “Prom Queen” are very well written songs. I just don’t know if I understand why Wayne wants to take this direction.

♫ Ryan Leslie – Gibberish (full) – listen
Ryan Leslie drowned his voice out in auto-tune for this new song, “Gibberish,” which is a track from his upcoming debut album. Is this song called “Gibberish” because you can’t understand anything throughout the song? I wasn’t sure what I was listening to vocally. I was rather confused. Other than that, I like some of the tricks Leslie does with his voice. His falsetto is undeniable. He does it better than his protege Cassie. The new album hits stores February 10th.

♫ Sean Kingston – Power of Money (full) – listen
I may just never have noticed before, but it seems like RedOne gets so much work these days! But then again, why wouldn’t he? “Just Dance,” the song he produced for Lady Gaga has been the #1 in the country for a little while now. In any event, Sean Kingston is still busy working on his second album. There was spell where he was making a lot of videos, being quite the show-off, with all of his jewelry. “Power of Money” hasn’t been confirmed as the first single, so maybe it’s just some leaked material to show us that he’s working.

    *FAINTED*

  3. TIFFANY

THE GOLDEN ERA OF HIP HOP WILL NEVER BE AGAIN SO LETS JUST REMINISCE ON THE LOVE WE HAD.

ITS EASY TO BE FED CRAP WHEN YOU’VE NEVER EXPERIENCED OR HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO APPRECIATE AUTHENTICITY. I WEEP FOR YOU 90′S BABIES.

  4. cedes

I see people don’t understand the simplicity yet creative step Leslie took w/ Gibberish.
I like it, its unique, different.

JayZ, hmm, the beat is enjoyable.
Lyrics is decent, not feeling it overall.
Call it my bias against his career i suppose.

Not even gonna listen to lil wayne i hate all his sh*t

& Sean kingston, song didnt load.
it was probably a flop anyways

    GOODNIGHT!

  5. Mrs. Purple Rain

@53 KM I totally agree. Lil Wayne is doing what N.E.R.D has been doing 4 years. If you haven’t seen N.E.R.D live you have 2 they have so much energy. Its crazy.
@59 Chrystel are you mad Kanye cd is like on the top 5 albums on billboards every week. Lil Wayne is trying 2 be like Kanye and Pharrell if you haven’t notice. I don’t think Wanye really knows what rock is. And if you ppl think this is rock then you are sadly mistaken. This shit is an insult 2 rock n’roll. Yessir

  6. wow

“Songwriters sometimes sing unintelligible syllables to lay down a guide melody during the creative process. Here’s an amusing example of this with my voice running through a very strict pitch correction processor. ”

Album drops on February 10th! Make sure you go out and pick it up!

  7. let's not lie

@Mrs. Purple Rain you wrote everything i wanted to say. wayne’s song is NOT a good rock song. it’s plain pop rock. i feel like if wayne wasn’t the one singing it, the majority of the ppl on this site praising the song wouldn’t like it. if you want rock hip-hop. n.e.r.d. is much better. their sound is different whereas wayne’s rock song (though different for a hip hop artist) is bland when you look at rock and innovative groups that are trying to push rock forward. i like wayne. he should stick to the genre that he knows. prom queen sucked too. sounds so rehashed.

  8. Nothing But Love

Brian PLEASE!!!! i know you just didn’t try and imply that Cassie has a falsetto….wtf?? Cassie has NO vocal range whatsoever!!!! so just stop!!!! because your making yourself sound stupid.

  9. Ladyssolady

#7, hip hop isn’t dead, u just gotta branch out and NOT listen to stuff that comes on the radio. #9, ‘Wetter’ is a hot song. Heard it on Sirius (where a lot of hot, unheard of music comes on) and was like what’s this? Twista has always been slept on anyway, tho.

  10. Kellz

Oh and quick question: is Sean Kingston “RedOne?”

  11. SALI

Jayz said he learned from Micheal Jordan. It’s obvious that he didn’t. SMH

  12. Aleisha

-Wayne iz officially on sum otha shit. But Im feelin it…its interesting as hell!

-Jay-z is so official. The beat is crazy! Its such a smooth track. He need 2 hurry up with the album tho

-Wat da hell is ryan leslie sayin?? all I heard wuz I…lmao!! Its different very different.

-I’d rather now listen to Sean Kingston he makes mah ass hurt.

  14. MINDYOURBIZNESS

    Jay- Z — BORING (YAWN)

Ryan Leslie – That song makes my head hurt!

  15. Starrah

Ryan Leslie – I thought gibberish was classic lmao I started laughing when I initially heard it but I mean honestly that track sounds like what I sound like when I start finding the melody of a song haha. Ryan did his thing on that one…I was confused when I first heard it as well but…I guess it grew on me lol

Wayne – Please…stop!! RAP PLEASE!!! I agree you can write…but you can’t sing so just STOP!!

Jay-Z – The beat in it’s own knocks and his laid back flow as always just…yeah. Enough said lol. Gotta dig the story telling.

  16. akyra

i swear the only person that can pull off the autotune is T-Pain…plz just let him b the only one cuz at least u can understand…
RYAN LESLIE!!! WTF is goin on i understand the song is called gibberish but damn make some sense in your song..i mean i actually can understand what lil wayne is saying even tho it dont make sense lol
LIL WAYNE – like the hot revolver kinda different but idk about buying the cd (just yet)
umm JAY Z -always does great work so not to surprised by him
SEAN KINGSTON-didnt even bother listening sorry

  17. coco_fiere

L’il Wayne= one-man minstrel show/wack lyricist the majority of the time/atrociousness personified. I really need for him to go hide and stay under a rock….a big ass rock like the ones he looks like he smokes. LOL

Diggin’ on the Jay track and also the Ryan Leslie joint but I’m not a Sean Kingston fan. I think his target audience is significantly younger than me (i.e. still in junior high/Cheetah Girl fans) so maybe that’s why.

For the record, Cassie doesn’t have a falsetto, she has a “NO-setto” and a “sit there and just be pretty-setto” so to compare her whisper-thin, singing in the key of W or Q voice (I use that term loosely) to Ryan Leslie’s or anyone else’s is preposterous. Come on B, do it better next time. Peace
