Personally I dont like the song. Im extemely proud and happy for Obama but Jeezy’s lyrics are appalling. If he’s gonna write a song about the president, he should at least have removed the curse words and the boasting about his own personal wealth.

Regarding the ongoing debate above ^ this is a gossip blog and people are entitle to their opinion. There is no need to jump down someones thraots because they don’t agree with you or don’t like a certain song. It is possible to disagree wih someone withot having a virtual dispute-some people need to grow up.

What an amazing video and song. When I was done watching it I just took a deep breath and smiled. I feel so proud to be African American right now, not that I’m not everyday but I am just so filled w/ pride and happiness. I really want to know where I can purchase one of those T-shirts too. I go to a predominately caucausian university and unfortunately I will be in class during the inaguaration. I wish they would cancel classes for such a historic event but unfortunately they are not. I really am truly happy and I’m so glad that Jeezy and Nas got together to make this anthem.

    sowhat_12345678,

Wow I had no idea about some of the things in the chorus. Thank you. What a silly song after all. I guess “my president is black” was just to get people’s attention. Pure ignorance and deceit. If he’s such a great lyricist why not spend a song dedicated to the new president talking about what he overcame and where he came from? Or perhaps talk about his qualities and credentials? This is pure ignorance. I guess I missed half of what he said because it was being blanked out by the curses. SMH

  6. Have Not Thought Of A New User Name

I honestly think the song is just ok Nas part was the best part, Jezzy verses are all over the place. Him talking about cars and money and hustling throught it off for. Nas is a great thinker, I would love to hear him by hiself doing this song or one similar.

    @ 55, JA:

I’ve read about how protecting him is much more difficult for any president proceeding him and that a lot of precautionary measures have had to be taken to protect him and his family. During the campaign, a lot of efforts had to be put in place and a lot of stops re-routed and cancelled altogether for safety concerns. However, you may be right, if the worse that happened to Bush, despite all of the global damage he helped to cause, was a shoe thrown at his head…then Obama will be just fine. In any case, I think you and your families are rarities in the sense that economically you have been unaffected by this economic downturn. Most people have admitted (a study just came out) that they are struggling. It tends to hit the poor/lower-income first and the hardest. However, the economic issues of the poor tend to be a litmus test for what will take place for everyone – both middle and upper-class – eventually. I feel that with this recession, everyone is taking a loss in one way or another. I do agree with you that Bush is not solely responsible for the economic downturn (although he certainly made it no better), Clinton actually played a strong part in it, but that’s usually ignored. I also don’t see the link you’re trying to make between the tax situation in CA and FL to that of Texas. I don’t think it matters which direction the states leaned politically (Obama or McCain) – remember CA has been a Democratic state for a long time – even before this economic crisis when their economy was flourishing. A more reasonable argument would be the likely misuse and misappropriation of state funds by state officials.

That said, I think we need to let Obama’s efforts speak for themselves and keep our expectations reasonable.

…and stop writing dumb-ass songs about rims and damn tennis shoes. I can’t abide a grown ass man who’s obsessed with the same things as a young boy: cars, gym shoes and impressing their friends. Jeezy’s a grown man, if he wants to really affect the community in a positive way, start talking about how to be financially stable (i.e. not living above your means, investing, IRAs, etc). I guarantee it’ll be the most boring song that was ever written but at least people will learn something they can really use. :)

  11. has to be said

i agree if people ACTUALLY LISTEN CAREFULLY to the lyrics and not just bop their heads to the catchy tune and ‘my president is black’ line. then they would see that this pro obama song is smothered with boasting, greed, and enforcing negative sterotypes of black ppl ( dad’s in jail). the swearing and ‘nigga’ word could have been omitted. New year, same things are still happening

obama is almost destined to fail everyone is expecting so much out of him as earlier, even HE said that things are going to take a long time to improve. people need to see him as the human he is and be realistic about what he can achieve given the cards he has been dealt with, than put him on an pedestal that continues to rise.

this isn’t in any way trying to take away what he has achieved and what he may be possible of achieving

everyone is entitled to their opinion, don’t crucify just because some decides not to join the choir.

  12. nebulus

umm…my bad yaw but THIS SONG IS ABSOLUTELY FUCCIN GARBAGE!!!!

ppl on here really biggin up this song like its on some ‘greatest of all time” shit….when in all honesty its got a lame ass beat and lame ass lyrics….

then again, i’d never expect sheep to be even remotely intelligent enough to be critical

  13. SIMMONSROYALTY

MY PRESIDENT IS BLACK….OMG I STILL CANT BELIEVE IT!! LORD PLEASE WATCH OVER HIM AND HIS FAMILY!!!

  14. politicallyincorrect

Young Jeezy sucks, why the fugg did he feel the need to still to take a song that was supposed to be about something positive and throw in his nucca nonsense to include cars and rims. Chuck D didn’t say fight the power courtesy of BMW!
Come on is Outkast the only southern rappers with any kind of sense?
Having a black president will mean nothing if we continue to see nucca nonsense behavior in our community as normal. I hope 2009 signals the end to the hip hop minstrel show that has been going on far too long

  15. cedes

I’m happy alot of people are proud of the achievement of OBAMA.
But I feel that we shouldn’t over-state this presidency.

We should be reminded that obama didn’t run for African Americans alone, but as he stated, he ran to change Americans problems and resolve it w/ intelligent and efficient solutions.

I am proud of his achievement, and I’m proud how he was able to unite us, blacks whites, Asians, Hispanics together and believe he was the man for the job.

We can celebrate, I really think as Americans, we should be proud of this accomplishment, after what this country has overcame.

    However we shouldn’t over-state it.
because we didn’t do it alone.

  16. cedes

PS: as NAS said in this song

“For whatever fee or publicity, never lose your integrity”

  17. Ewurafua

Am watching this video and CRYING my eyes out!!! OBAMA DID ME PROUD NOVEMBER 4TH 2008.

  18. IT WILL TAKE A STUPID PEOPLE LIKE #12 AND #13 TO SAY SOMETHING NEGATIVE ABOUT THERE OUR. CRAB IN A BUCKET NI@#AS!!!

ANYWAYS LOOOVVVEEE DA SONG, LOOOVVVEE JEEZY AND NAS!!!!

  19. mel

The lyrics says you motivate me everyone wakes up at different levels, my president is black is enough does that mean jeezy shoud all off a sudden should become politically educated overnight, i never thought i would see a black president in u,s,a in my lifetime but since then have become more increasingly involved in politics i too like jeezy am learning nas has been historically lyrically involved for a while, you could tell with his lyrics the visual concept of the video was beautiful as jeeezy said look out part 2

  20. lovelystar

    I love his voice and I don’t know Y?1 lol- jezzy’s

  21. tia

people were singing this at my university when it was announced that obama would be president. i don’t understand the song. it’s great that jeezy is acknoledging obama would be president even way before he was elected, however inserting all the lines about materialism just ruins it for me.

    my president is black.
    my lambo’s blue.

what does a lambo have to do with anything. just more materialism. aren’t we in a recession? it’s like we’re going back two steps.

  22. Ms. Yaya

are they planning on selling the “My president is black” hoodies?
    ‘cuz they are DOPE!
