WHAT THEY WORE: THE FIRST LADY EDITION (& THE OBAMA GIRLS)

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

michelinaug.png

After months and months of speculation, First Lady Michelle Obama stepped out looking gorgeous as expected on Inauguration Day.

During the ceremony and parade, Michelle wore a custom-made yellow sheath and matching coat by Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo, accessorized with Jimmy Choo teal heels and J. Crew leather gloves.

As for the ten Inaugural Balls she is scheduled to attend, Mrs. Obama selected a beautiful silk chiffon Jason Wu one-shoulder ivory gown. See what the young Obama girls wore after the cut…

Malia and Sasha Obama stepped out Tuesday morning in these J. Crew Crewcuts wool coats, that are scheduled to be available in Fall 2009. The designers at J. Crew exclusively made these sketches for the girls.

I think the dress was nice, but I know Michelle was tired of ball hopping to dance to the same song.

I wasn’t a HUGE fan of the Toledo ensemble and I thought it was a little too much for a noon time event and luncheon, but the color looked great on her.

The Jason Wu dress probably looks better in person than on tv and photos. I love the one strap and she has such amazing arms and shoulders. I wish she would have worn her hair up and wore a little more makeup. But it’s been a long day for her and she has like a gazillion balls to go to tonight.

All in all I think she was a solid B. Not as much glam as we expected but still lovely. I wonder if her people actually looked at any of the sketches from WWD because some of those designs were really up her ally. She seems to like embellishments but the kleenex look of the Wu dress just doesn’t look that great. Oh well.

And no Maria Pinto? I wonder if they had a falling out because I was certain she’d wear something by her at some point during the day. Weird.

I love the first lady style. The Jason Wu dress is beautiful. Tonight Mrs. Obama placed Jason Wu on the map. A designer that have only been around three years. She have just skyrocketed Jason WU career.

J. Crew is a great choice for the Obama girls, we should always allow kids to be kids.

the younger sister with the pink coat i thought she looked ADORABLE LOL.. she was jus a boppin around today….

i think michelle looked nice in both outfits but i wasnt really a fan of the daytime look…i was hopin she did something a lil more fashion forward..as well as with the evening gown. I thought she would come out in a halter dress or something..she could have really pulled that off…but i guess overall everything was safe..nothing thats gonna get her on any best dressed list but im lookin forward to catching her out in the future

No matter if you liked the outfit or not she’s got you looking, talking, and being in the Top 10 blogging; she ROCKED both designs and looked great doing so. She is stylish, elegant, graceful, and classy!

RESPECT HER…she’s like friggin royalty!

I agree with Hollywood Blackout…the first dress, though it was a nice color, did not flatter her figure. It instead came across as too matronly. I know it was cold, but that is the art of designing to compliment the body while bringing warmth. Her shoes, though Jimmy Choo, were an absolute NO. The color was just not great and the style was once again, matronly. The Inaugural gown was a step in the younger feminine direction, but can you please explain to me why she chose something that made it damn near impossible to dance in??? The gown was way too long and had Barack tripping up while trying to dance with her. On top of this, I felt that Jill Biden’s red gown was well fitted, a great color, and just the right length for the Joe’s dance with her. I know I am majorly picky on this but the vibes between Jill and Joe during their dance were just a lot smoother than Michelle and Barack’s…she looked a little tense and more focused on Beyonce singing rather than making it a moment to take it all in with her and her husband (that feeling where there is no one in the room but you and your significant other)…yea, I kno, very opinionated, but I call it like I see it. Proud day to be an American nonetheless :)

I liked both, Im glad she had something a little interesting for the morning, instead falling on the old standbys of red and blue like most. She probably coulda picked different shoes though, they were a little matchy.

The ivory really made her skin look gorgeous!

The girls looked really cute, nicely put together

Alright its not that deep…All that needs to be said is the First Lady Obama looked FIERCE today at the inaguration and at the inagural balls. Matter of fat she should be called First Lady is…Fierce or MiMi Fierce because homegirl rocked it. Malia and Sasha looked to adorable the end. Let’s not get into so petty as ” I didn’t like her dress and blah blah blah”.

Michelle and the girls were extra FAB!!! The End….

I think she should’ve worn a different jacket with the daytime dress. She’s young, and the outfit made her look about 60. The girls looked ADORABLE! The jackets were so cute, and I loved little Sasha’s scarf. Michelle’s ballgown was beautiful. Nonetheless, MICHELLE IS BEAUTIFUL, AND HAS IMPECCABLE TASTE IN CLOTHING. Big up’s to the first lady

Oh the girls looked great…go head with their designer coats…come next fall every little girl will have one. I like Michelle’s yellow/green outfit, but I wasn’t crazy about the white gown. For me, a sleaker gown would have sealed the deal.

39.

let's not lie

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 /

didn’t like the first dress but i liked the 2nd one
i don’t see why it’s petty to say i don’t like one of her dresses. i can’t like everything she wears just b/c she’s the first lady

the kids looked cute but why do the sketches not look like them? you would think that if you’re sketching a dress for someone, the model would look like them. ok lol maybe that’s petty

41.

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 /

I love the honorable first lady Michelle Obama, but I did NOT like her dress, sorry. On tv, It looked like it had yarn balls hanging off of it. She also should have worn chocolate brown or metallic creamy pumps with the inaugural outfit that was design my the cuban guy. The green shoes really threw me off.

The Obamas are a part of the blogosphere now, so Michelle will be under the fashion radar. They are not perfect, and they are still the First Family..criticizing the wardrobe is not “ruining the moment” @ the dufus above

42.

yea whatever

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 /

and Michelle Obama has great figure now…she should have worn something strappy, black or navy, and SEXY!!

43.

But back on subject! Michelle looked great. Didn’t like the green attire. However, the night attire was stunning and elegant. Malia and Sasha are cute and beautiful as they want to be. Nice lookin lil gurl. Malia looks just like her dad. Wow

Although I didnt like the Toledo dress I understand why she wore it, its understated and took attention away from what she was wearing so that the focus could be on the Man of the moment, Barack. Makes total sense and I admire her for that.

The ballgown is beautiful and Sascha and Malika look adorable as always.

Michelle looks like the first lady of the Old Mission Baptist church in the green dress. I don’t know who picks Michelle colors but I think she shud stick to nutural colors like black, navy, cremes and tans. I would much prefer her to wear a fitted two piece trendy creme skirt suit.

i never said they should be dressed like 2 years old…

i just think that they look a little too old and not childish…and i dont mean they should wear a mickey mouse shirt or something like that, just something that dont make them look like 40 year old ladies…

President Obama has mad swagger and looked handsome in his black coat @ the Inauguration and tuxedo at the ball. First Lady Michelle Obama looked gorgeous in both the Inauguration dress and the ball gown. Malia and Sasha were too cute in their coats. Dan, it was cold outside so they had to bundle up. We don’t know what they were wearing underneath their coats, could have been really cute dresses.

The First Family….can’t help but love ‘em!

Jason Wu just got put on the map thanks to Michelle. I love her so much. It’s like style, grace, and ellegence are just natural to her. She has really changed the way people look at african american women. We know have a new sterotype that I couldn’t be more proud of, and it’s a damn good one. The type that says black women are georgous, beautiful, intelligent, and can accomplish anything.

To #18…sorry but while I myself would love to co-sign, she is not a SOROR to anyone. She responded to these rumors of membership in a Greek letter organization herself in previous interviews. She nor Barack are members of any Greek organization. Additionally, when extended membership by many just as recently as this summer, she denied them. Don’t believe me… just google it!

As for her attire…She looked beautiful. I myself did not care for the first choice, but she looked very classy. Loved the Ball gown…I thought it was very appropriate.

Oh wow, first and foremost, Michelle and Barack, are pure class, elegance, and style, their love truly sparkles whenever they are together, and it’s so beautiful to see! Though usually a trend setter, I wasn’t wild about Michelle’s picks. I think she would’ve looked stunning in Jill Biden’s smokin’ hot, red dress, but it was nice and gracious that Michelle picked a young, unknown designer. Actually, the more I see the dress, it grows on me. Barack’s bow-tie was a little off, but he still looked great.

Sorority people can be so petty. AKA isn’t the only sorority that awards honorary membership; for DST, Lena Horne, Mary McCloud Bethune and Nikki Giovanni, were just three of a bunch of honorary members. Michelle Obama is an AKA, it was announced and celebrated at their centennial. She is the 2nd AKA first lady in American history; Elenor Roosevelt being the first. So don’t hate…what’s the point? I think it’s great that two first ladies were in Black Greek organizations. All Black Greek organizations and members should feel proud. Michelle O, looks fabulous in green by the way.
