♫ HOT OR NOT: CORNEILLE - “LIBERATION”
Thursday, February 19, 2009

Born in Germany and raised in his parents’ native Rwanda, Corneille, an internationally acclaimed musician signed to Universal Motown, is ready to launch his first English album here in the States. Though virtually unknown to an American audience, Corneille sells out arenas in other parts of the world and has released a few French soul/R&B albums and built an impressive fanbase in the process.
“Liberation” is a funky, soul-driven track that I’m sure will help earn Corneille a few American fans. The Birth of Cornelius, to be released March 10, 2009, is set to do what his French albums have done for him here in the U.S. Hot or not?

Concreteloop, I love you for this! Corneille is one of my favorite artists! His music is very soulful and when he sings about his past, you can feel the pain in his voice…
The guy’s family was murdered before his eyes during the genocide in Rwanda… so sad.
I’m glad his talent has seen him through all that. I really hope he does well here in the U.S.

wow that’s so funny i was just watching one his English video clips earlier on today and it felt soooo weird , because i am used to his French material( I ‘m from Montreal !!) , and yeah he did have ALOT of success within the Canadian and French market , i’m not quite sinking in the transition yet but it’s not bad , just awkward lol …

I have to disagree with the author of this post. There are many pockets of Americans- particularly Africans, Caribbeans and those who have studied/lived abroad who are very familiar with Corneille.
I was introduced to his music about 4-5 years ago when I lived in France. He is a very humble and determined artist and I wish him all the best!!

I love it. I love how it’s a mixture of rock, soul, and blues. It gives me a Lenny Kravitz/ Curtis Mayfield vibe.

His first album was awesome ! I loved every single songs of “Parce qu’on vient de loin”
Authentic, personal, groovy…. If the english songs are half as good as the french one, then he needs not to worry abouthis career in us.

Corneille is certainly an African Gem and a very soulful artist. His history and the things he has gone through give everything he says great depth. For those who would like to discover another great artist whose style resembles Corneille’s even though he only has material in french check Gage with whom he share the group O.N.E. in the late nineties.
