EVENTS: PRESIDENT & FIRST LADY HONOR STEVIE WONDER

Thursday, February 26, 2009

President Barack Obama presented Stevie Wonder with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song during a taping of the Stevie Wonder In Performance at the White House: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize in the East Room of the White House on Wednesday (February 25th).

The event which will air on PBS next month also brought out some singers/musicians including: Paul Simon, Will.I.Am, and Tony Bennett. Check out what President Obama had to say about Stevie:

“I think it is fair to say that, had I not been a Stevie Wonder fan, Michelle might not have dated me, we might not have married,” the President said. “The fact that we agreed on Stevie was part of the essence of our courtship.” [ READ MORE + VIDEO ]

I love the Obama’s- they’ve been breaking the “White House” in right. Oh, and LOVED how Obama made reference to Stevie being one of the main components to he and Michelle’s being together. Sure there were LOTS of other things that made them an unstoppable powerhouse couple but that was a sincere way of recognizing Stevie the Legend!

Love Michelle’s hair with curls too and I have to dido comment #1, love her arms as well. They are SO toned. Kind of reminds me of Angela Bassett’s arms. Oh, and that green looks nice on her as well!

Congrats to Stevie he is a true legend and deserves this honor.
But please…someone please…Stevie needs to let the braids go!! His hairline left a long time ago. He looks foolish right about now. I hate to say it cuz I love his music but his people are wrong for letting him look like this!!

Now I love me some Stevie God knows I do, but when you look bald from the front and your dreads can’t be seen until you turn your head to the side… Its time to let them bad boys go. Those poor dreads look farther back everytime I see him, smh.

On a more positive note, I’m glad to see the Obamas presenting him with such a distinguished award. Congrats Stevie!

Michelle looks really nice. But I was reading other websites, that were debating should she wear sleaveless dresses this season and where she should wear sleaveless dress. To me, she always look elegant and as long as she does, it shouldn’t matter if its sleaveless or not.

—-OH MY! R u serious??? what a dumbazz thing to debate! I think so many folks hated on Michelle from the start. She is attractive, in great shape and is obviously comfortable in her own skin. Remember how the first Mrs. Bush always wore pearls to cover up her “turkey waddle” neck? Michelle is a woman that has NOTHING to be ashamed of and it shows! She and President Obama are just FIERCE! Stevie is the MAN! What a high HONOR! Congrats Mr. Wonder!

#17. i read those stories too, but after Reagan, the First Lady’s either looked like the Quaker Oats man or the pilsbury dough boy. If you look like a busted open can of biscuits, you should be wearing a jacket….not Michelle. I love her feminine and strong confidence in her body.

light brown? lol. smh. that’s a first…any way to include the word “light”. niggras. Anyway, when I met Michelle about a year ago her complexion could definitely be described as mahagony or chestnut brown. I just love the fact that she’s black, ya know. That could have easily been a non-black woman on a brotha’s arm. I’m just glad we ALL get to take part in this victory of what a black first family looks like.

Further showing that our president is black! Michelle looks fabulous. One of the greatest compliments I got recently was being told my persona and demeanor reminded someone of Michelle Obama. Love them!

36.

myopia

Thursday, February 26, 2009 /

I swear some black people will never change….LOL. “light brown skinned girls”. I hope no one’s wondering why black people still get no respect. This type of mentality reminds me of this black woman I saw on the news the other day waiting in line for section 8 housing with a Coach bag on her shoulder.

Anyway,

Michelle looks beautifu. Love the hair. I like how President Obama includes her in a lot of these white house events. I think she will be a very active first lady.

40.

My president is light skinned

Thursday, February 26, 2009 /

There is no such thing as being light dark skin that joke wasn’t even funny come better than that if you’re trying to insult me. if you’re dark then you are dark but there are different shades of brown from halle’s carmel color to michelle’s darker version of that. SHE IS NOT DARK SKINNED!!! Yes she is brown a beautiful brown. Light skin people have Beyonce dark skinned people have whoppi and brown skinned women have michelle. I never had anyone to compare myself to because I’m not light wanna be white black or purple black i’m in the middle so I’m just happy to see someone who looks like me!

I wish people would shut up about Michelle or Barack being “brown skinned” or not, Truth be told, we are all shades of brown as black people… Honestly, the KKK could care less what shade you are, you still look good on a tree to them. And if u r mixed, most white people don’t clam you anyway, so……. We as blacks have to STOP this slave mentality of “I am lighter, so the massuh likes me betta”, Grow up ya guys…..

P.S- Stevie needs to lose the dreads, it ain’t fliyin like it use to… I agree with most

45.

HUH?

Thursday, February 26, 2009 /

Just another important tid bit that is important to add:
Michelle’s dress was designed by Kai Milla, who is a fashion designer and Stevie Wonder’s wife. Kai showcased some of her clothes on the Oprah show recently.

OOooh J.Dakar, yes. Please fix it. SHow is airing tonight, not next month. That is a big difference. Thanks to the person above who caught that mistake. I didn’t even notice.

1st lady game proper!!!!! OMG Michelle looks fabulous……I luv her hair this way, she should do it more often…..the arch in her brows can make her appear “mean” to those who were unfamiliar with her at the beginning of the election race but she has the cutest smile and it brightens up her whole face…..LUVS IT……obama is so handsome…..I stan for them……

THe sad thing is that Stevie cant see how ridiculous his hair looks. Whoever is hooking him up should just let the fake braids go and let him be bald. They dont even get realistic braids: Stevie is old as hel and the hair is jet black. Oh well, Stevie hasnt made a good record in about 25 years any way.

I think that Stevie and more than a few from his time is the reason why we are here today.LMAO. I just love being black in America right now. Yesterday someone replied to a posting about Obama. How we are sheep for believing in him and honoring him. Well, I don’t think that he would have instantly made so many changes. Who in the world is honoring people like Stevie, other than BET? I can’t wait to see what OBAMA does withing these next 2 years!
