In what is the alternative cover of the March issue of Vibe Magazine, singer Keyshia Cole and her biological mother Frankie Lons cover the annual Style Issue.
Keyshia was interviewed in Los Angeles where she discussed the changes in her life — from her style and attitude to her new teeth — and why she is working on becoming a better person. Both Keyshia and Frankie talk fashion:

Keisha Cole is really about business now…I have gone to conferences and been in the same room as people with 100s of millions of dollars and you never see them decked out in logos…they are wearing designer clothes…but they aren’t covered in writing from head to toe…i’m becoming more and more of a Keisha Cole fan…the woman is obvisouly getting hip to the real game.

I think Keisha has come a long way since the beginning of her career. She seems more refined and less ghetto now. I like her hair and the way she dresses these days. Half of these stars are spending everything they earn on name brands and have nothing to show when their career is over. Frankie is just Frankie. Either you like her or you don’t. I always like a person thats real because you know what you are getting off the back.

Vibe is losing credibility with this tacky cover. Keyshia used to be my girl, but these days she is losing credibility (with me that is), her style is so effed up these days. I just don’t know these dyas. She always seems to look like a 1970s hooker or something. I’m still trying to figure out what look she is going for. It’s great that you are reconnecting with your family, but she needs to stop using them and that show to tir buzz around her. Her family is just exploiting her success and because she feels guilty she is letting them. I guess everybody is getting over.

Now, as far as the cover, I’m not feeling it. That shot looks like it should have been INSIDE the mag, as a part of the spread. They could have went with a better pic for the cover.
-I like Frankie because she keeps it real. And she is correct about Payless and LV. They do sell the same thing, the only difference is quality. And Keyshia is correct about print logos in designer fashion. It’s played. There are too many simple bytches out here now spending what little money they have on Coach and Louis V, trying to perpetrate a lifestyle that’s not theirs. Live within your means folks.

The cover photo could have been a little better. I think that they made the right decision to put Frankie on the cover. Because you know if it would have been Keyshia and the stepmom, Frankie would have had a fit.
Let’s talk about cheap. Do you really have to wear a pair of $5000 shoes to feel like somebody? Do you have to buy a $3000 handbag to feel like a queen? In other words, we as African Americans need to invest our money when we get it. We don’t have to go out buying the most expensive material items. People like MC Hammer , Mike Tyson, and several others went bankrupt in no time because they tried to buy the most expensive everything! Now look at them, they are broke! MC Hammer even testified to the fact that if he would have invested his money and no try to buy the most expensive this and that, he would be fine financially today. I feel that many of you are only saying that Keshia’s outfit is cheap because she mentioned that she is turned off by labels and Frankie mentioned Payless. If they would not have made those statements, you would never have known how much they spent on their items . To be honest with you, if Keisha keeps that mentality about labels and buying expensive items, she will probably end up being extremely wealthy. The fact that she doesn’t go out and spend her money on unnecessarily expensive items says alot. No matter if you are an entertainer or not, we have to save and invest. Remember celebrities do lose their homes and go bankrupt because they are trying to live too big!!!!
