First Lady Michelle Obama covers the latest issue of Vogue Magazine. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz at the Hay-Adams Hotel, where the Obamas stayed before the Inauguration, this is only the 2nd time a first lady has made the cover. Hilary Clinton was the first.

This cover is classy, and it represents an unseen combination of intelligence, sophistication, and decorum…three traits that we don’t see too often in magazines representing African-American women.
i think she look great and i’m going to pick up a copy of this mag. So what if she hasn’t supported black designers yet…key word YET. She’s only been the first lady for about a month or less. Give her a chance. Maybe I could understand the hoopla if she had been around for years. And she’s a lawyer herself with debateable good taste. Not a fashionista who knows the ins and outs of the fashion world. I don’t know black designers myself outside of Sean John, baby phat and that Micheal guy from project runway off the top of my head. I’m sure she has more important issues to deal with and will eventually get around to it
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the cover. It’s just the way she’s smiling. She looks like she’s trying not to smile too hard but her mouth and teeth still stands out.
I didn’t realize she was that thin. Overall, I think she’s beautiful.
Nice….but I’m not in love with the cover it’s like photographers don’t know how to photograph an unglamed face. The other two are nice, the average woman, man family of any race can relate to the new First Family.

Vogue could have picked a more flattering picture for the cover. Just because she’s the first First Lady who’s black doesn’t mean we have to call her beautiful all the time. Y’all all know Michelle is not the most photogenic person. The cover pic is just not cute.
Beautiful! Classy, not over the top–AND her mouth isn’t all wide open.
It’s a real picture warts and all. Most of the covers are airbrushed and photoshopped 2 death. The less than stellar depiction is what makes it real. She can’t win; if it had been an over the top fashion flick, she would have been spit upon.
Let’s get beyond the pics, and get into the story of her academic and professional accomplishments. That’s what Black women!!!!!! and Black men!!!!! need to be excited about. We should also not let our enthusiasm end there but also be inspired and ecouraged to do the same. I know too many Afro Ams that have no connection to anyone with a college education. So sad.
Also, the other end of the spectrum are uneducated Black “stars”, who could give a rats ass about anything with any depth. Hopefully, MO & BO will help to create a space where Black strivers can get more air time. There is a middle ground between Michelle & Barack vs. Chris & Rihanna . . . . only if we let it be!

Why do people always bring up the fact that they don’t think she’s attractive? As if she is some sort of model/actress/pop star.
She was a corporate professional woman! She was not groomed to be on the covers of magazines and walking red carpets. This is all new to her. Remember how BUSTED Keyshia Cole used to look? It takes years to perfect your “look” for the media. Michelle Obama is trying but looking like a supermodel has clearly not been her life’s focus. If it was I doubt she would have been interesting to the President.
I swear, as much as black women complain about “white beauty standards” some of y’all seem to be so quick to dismiss a woman with archetype black features. I would love to hear who some of you all think is actually “pretty”.

It’s nice to see her in mainstream magazines, because the interview may start off about her fashion, but talking about her personal and professional accomplishments is inevitable. I think it’s important for people to see what she’s accomplished, especially young girls. Positive role models are few and far between but Michelle Obama is a good candidate.

That is so right! People in America are so jaded and harbor this misconceived notion of what beauty is. Beauty to Americans is anything that isn’t real. Why do you think Beyonce is lauded as this goddess? Beyonce is as real as a 3 dollar bill. Every time I see her I think of the unfortunate horse that lost his tail so she can wear it as a weave. Black women especially, have fallen in the trap of having white people tell them their features aren’t beautiful, so these idiots turn around and get nose jobs etc. While white women on the other hand, are injecting their @sses for it to get bigger and injecting sh!t in there their lips so they can be fuller. I have never in my life seen such a race of dumb ass people. Me personally, I do not date women with weaves or fake nails….frankly, I look down on those women. If you go to the zoo and you approached the monkey cage and you saw the monkeys roaring and acting like lions, wouldn’t you find it strange or think that the monkeys are infected with the “monkey pox” or something? Black women need to stop acting like something they can never be – white.
