Push: Based on the novel by Sapphire, is the story of Claireece Precious Jones, an overweight, illiterate teen who is pregnant with her second child. She endures unimaginable hardships in her young life: abused by her mother and raped by her father.
The film won numerous awards at this years Sundance Film Festival and was recently picked up by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.
Oprah had this to say about the film:
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Winfrey said in a statement. “The moment I saw Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire, I knew I wanted to do whatever I could to encourage other people to see this movie.
“The film is so raw and powerful—it split me open.”
Make sure to view the clip to see some stellar performances from Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, Paula Patton and new comer Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe. Can’t wait to see this!

will try to read the book before I see the movie but will go see it. Maybe I will pass the book to my 6thgrader afterwards.
# 118, i am with you. As soon as I saw the post, I went to the bookstore and copped it. I just finished it! My heart was so heavy, at times I had to put the book down because at times it was very graphic and to think that young kids go through this on a daily basis. Also I want to point out, that some of the dialect was hard to follow because Precious was illiterate, I sometimes had to read some parts a couple of times to get the drift of the story. But great story and I cant wait to see the movie!
i can’t wait to see this.
this almost made me cry ..wow
i just ordered the book from my library.
I so excited about this movie! I read push back in 97′ and I just adored it since. Being a NY native with roots from the south, I can understand the language used and vividly picture the sound of the vocabulary in my head. But I am thoroughly pissed that the release of the movie in the theatres will be delayed because lionsgate and another production company is filing suit against eachother, fighting over the rights to the film and who is entitled to it! Arghh! I haven’t even seen a preview and I am desperate to see this film, will see it more than once to show my support.
