It seems as though our girl Keri Hilson has scored her very own first #1 hit with her second single, “Turnin’ Me On,” featuring Lil’ Wayne.
“Turnin’ Me On” lands the #1 spot on the Mainstream R&B/Hip Hop chart, while it has peaked at #23 so far on the Hot 100 chart. The Polow Da Don-produced track is taken from Keri’s debut album, In A Perfect World…, which is set to hit stores and online March 24th. The album will contain productions from Timbaland, Polow Da Don, Danjahandz and Cory Bold, with a few features that have yet to be revealed yet.
Although Keri has penned #1′s for others, this has got to be a proud moment for her. Not only has the song gained some pretty good chart success, it has also held the #1 spot on BET’s 106 & Park. I, for one, am very excited about the release of Keri’s project. Can’t wait for the 24th of March!
NEW MARIAH SINGLE THIS SPRING?
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! The Dream sat down with our friends over at Rap-Up.com to talk about his involvement in Mariah Carey’s new project, the tentatively titled, twelfth studio album, MC3. Mariah loves her numbers, doesn’t she?
Here’s what The Dream had to say:
“We’re working on M.C. stuff… incredible!” said the ‘Rockin’ That Thang’ singer.
“We’ve got seven songs already; it’s been like two weeks. We’re just moving right along, so hopefully she’ll just put the single out there in the next couple of months.”
I don’t know if I’m ready to hear from Mariah that soon!
Mariah is no stranger to The Dream and Tricky Stewart, considering that they were the masterminds behind her #1 single, “Touch My Body” from the underwhelming album, E=MC². Mariah is also featured on The Dream’s second single, “My Love,” from his forthcoming sophomore album, Love vs. Money, which hits shelves and online March 10th.
BLACK EYED PEAS PREP NEW ALBUM
Although the group was supposed to disband, and two of their members (Fergie and Will.I.Am) released solo albums, The Black Eyed Peas plan to release their new album, The E.N.D., on June 9th. The E.N.D., which stands for The Energy Never Dies will be lead by the first single, “Boom Boom Pow.” The single is set to be service to Top 40 and Rhythm Crossover radio and clubs.
The new album will be the Peas’ first release since their hugely successful Monkey Business, which was released in 2005. After the release of the album, the Black Eyed Peas plan to go on a world tour playing the same global territories they covered over the past five years. Dates will begin to be announced in the weeks and months ahead.
So why is Keri Hilson still around? It’s just not going to happen for her. She will never even reach Ashanti status let alone the real heavy hitters, and can Mariah let us have a little break from her breathesinging over the tracks? Dang!!
Mariah should just step back and take her time, get her voice back in shape and give us something with substance and not some lame R&B sound thats currently on the market by much younger artists….I’m sure she can still hit those octaves, and she should steer clear from too many rap-stars on her songs, maybe one single

I love Mariah but its too early for her to release a new album, she should wait at least 2 years! I heard the new Mariah will be a ” back to classics” album. Dream said they’re working on songs with her 90′s style, if it’s true that’s a good idea. Mariah is aware that her career is not as big as it used to be. Butterfly was the last good Mariah’s material (with the exception TEOM). She is also aware that her voice can’t blow maybe she worked too much on it. But when you listen some of her old songs no one can deny she has or used to have one of the most beautiful voice ever.
Keri-Good for her, I do like that song. I know she’s happy to finally see some results, but one hit song isn’t enough. I think she needs to pick a style and stick to it. She’s all over the place. Take on new style from album to album, not single to single. It confuses people about your sound and whether you’re worth checking out according to their tastes.
Mariah- I agree with the consensus in the post. I don’t want Mariah to do watered down talk-singing R&B. Her voice is not what it used to be, but everyone knows she is still capable of doing so much better, especially as a songwriter. E= MC2 was not good at all, as much as I tried to give at a chance to grow on me. I think she should get some extensive vocal training to help get voice back into shape and wait a while longer for the next album. I would love to see her come back with some classic material similar to the sound of the Butterfly album, TEOM has very good material as well nothing wrong with going back to that style either.
BEP- They’re songs are annoying to me for the most part, even though I find myself liking a few. With that said, I’m not excited about their project.
