You may remember our good friend Steph Jones from previous artist spotlights. But it seems that since his split with Ludacris’s Disturbing tha Peace label, Steph has taken the reigns on his career and moved forward, with the new single from his upcoming six-song EP that he plans to release entitled “Shooting Star.”

I got a chance to chat with Steph about the song and here’s what he had to say:

“The inspiration for the song came when I was sitting in my car and all of a sudden, it was a meteor shower. The whole sky was lit up for hours… And I just had to make the record,” he explained.

“I know T-Pain is the Auto-Tune dude, but the effect I put on it fits the record, so I went with it…”

I definitely love it. Although he’s using the vocoder/Auto-Tune, Steph’s voice is different from any other male crooner out there, and I think what I dig about it is the Stevie Wonder-like quality of the song. It just takes me to a different place, unlike most of the other male vocalist that we get nowadays.
