President Barack Obama speaks during a news conference in the East Room of the White House on Monday night in Washington, DC (view video). Before taking questions from the news media, Obama began his first prime time news conference by urging Congress to pass the $838 billion Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.

“It is absolutely true that we cannot depend on government alone to create jobs or economic growth. That is and must be the role of the private sector. But at this particular moment, with the private sector so weakened by this recession, the federal government is the only entity left with the resources to jolt our economy back to life.”

The news conference was very constructive! I hope this is a little push to get this stimulus package on the move!

And Michelle is rocking the shawl in the 2nd pic :-D

  2. mack

people kill me thinking that we’re gonna get this stimulus check in a couple months. maybe a couple years in the meantime get a job. quit waiting for somebody to always just give your ass something!

  3. POWER!

#3 just hush. Who is talking about a check here? We are all about the economy working. We all get it that it’s all about patience and hard work.

  4. Q*U*E*E*N

  5. AlexIS

Bill O’Reilly straight chewed that press conference to pieces afterwards….
I’m not sure what to think of it all, with majority vote being Democrat- most likely everything will be OK’d, but I do wish the Pres the best of luck with the stimulus package….it’s such a premature gamble. Yeah, 3.5 million odd jobs have been lost and there’s a lot of slack to pick up but there won’t be a speedy recovery. A lot of people’s expectations are way too high. If all doesn’t work out and so soon…that’s gonna pretty much be the end. sigh…. HOPECHANGES and hopefully America will work itself out of this rut!

  6. jahjah babyyy

    I LOVE MICHELLE…

im tryna be like her when i grow up lol

    thats all =]

  7. Beezy

    ~Kudos to #3
Alright, U r very ignorant and you are a damn fool if U don’t think that there are people out there not aspiring to work, with a hand out for some cash… He/she was NOT talking about people who have lost there jobs in this recession, who are still LOOKING for work, but can’t seem to find one. He/she was speaking about Tyrone, who just lives off his momma, and looking to reap the benefits from all this money that is suppose to be back in the WORKING mans pocket. Mack has the right to say what the fuck he/she wants to, so U hush! Its a blog damn it!

  8. blahblah

    1. Michelle Obama is scary looking
    2. Barack Obama just lost my vote in the next election with this charade called the stimulus package. unless a miracle happens to the economy in the next four years i am not voting for this guy. This is not the time to be increasing funding on unnecessary social programs.

  9. jecka

    Nice story. I like it.

  10. *«Solid Rich Girl»*

Our Presiedent was putting those reporters in check and did it in a nice and smoothe way.lol.Our 1st Lady Michelle Obama looks beautiful with that pretty purple shawl. One of my favorite colors and I’am part Native American too but that is great that they acknowledged her and I’m sure she had a good time.*Great events for the Obamas*

I would highly encourage you to look at things before you comment. I charge you to go to http://www.whitehouse.gov and check out the stimulus YOURSELF, instead of repeating what you hear from fox news and the conservatives. (just for future reference) Infrastructure, education, banking and the housing sector is exactly what is addressed in Barack’s stimulus package… And is exactly what we need right now! ( If u have an opposition,Come to the storehouse with bread, be knowledgeable)

P.S- Obama would have won with or w/o your vote

  12. silly_rabbit

Very cool. Didn’t know about this. :)

  13. Izzib

#3 is stupid. The purpose of the stimulus is to create jobs, because people are being laid off in large numbers. How you are going to find what is not there?

We need to constantly show support for our president. We are his power against the estabilishment. There is no other way for change to happen than to remind the republicans that if they don’t get things right, they will be voted out.

Mrs. First Lady is so wonderful. People just gravitate to her. You can just see the love.

Give the first family your love and support and don’t give into doubt. If you don’t agree with a bill or policy, give suggestions or constructive criticism, not doubt.

  14. trinib

I see some people was wearing their dunce cap during the press conference…..

  15. I Love ME

first of all the ecnmy was in a bd state bfre obama becme prsdnt~!! so he’s going to do what he feels is best for the amrcan people!! at this point your ether on board or not!! hell i dnt knw if im going to have a job from day to day so im vry grtfllllll ! !! for those of you who dont keep your head up and rembr dont GIVE up on GOD becse he wnt give up on you!! and by the way im waiting on s STIM chk ! ! toooo ! ! lolol

  16. mel

@3 just shut up! people are losing their jobs every second. if you did you homework the city of Elkhart Indiana that President Obama visited yesterday went from having a 4% unemployment rate to 15%. my point is people need jobs and if the president decides to send out stimulus checks to help americans it’s justifiable!

  17. The Secret Life of Me... $$$

The President did well last night. He put a little pressure on the Senate and The House to get his bill passed through… Well, we already know what the same old rhetoric does for America so I’m ready to take a chance on the stimulus package for a long term goal. No more padding!

  18. MeMyself&I

I am in love w/ my president. His demeanor is unwavered. He represents a strong man in the worlds time of need. I love him!

  19. ****I watched this last night BET reaired it. Pres. Obama let them know he is not one
*****to play with. He got with some of those reporters. Helen kills me with her questions.

  20. ms twin

this is for blahblah whether u vote for president obama in the next election or not remember the state of the ecomony before he was elected. IT WAS ALREADY FUCKED UP TO BEGIN WITH SO IF U DON’T WANT TO VOTE FOR HIM IN NEXT 4 YEARS GOOD BUT WE ALL ARE IN NEED OF HELP. THE QUESTIONED IS WHAT ARE U DOING TO HELP THE CURRENT SITUATION. AND FOR BILLY O’REILLY TALKING WRECKLESS I WONDER Y PEOPLE GIVE HIM SO MUCH SHINE WHAT CAN HE DO. NOT A DAMN THING.

  21. CJ

I didn’t see all these repubicans up in arms when the bail out money for wall street was being used for 20 million dollars in bonus’s for the big wigs on wall street or when the stupid big dogs of the US auto industry had the nerve to fly their private Jets to ask for their bailout money. But as soon as the president want’s to do some government spending to create jobs and help the people out here come the republicans complaining. What it really is about is the republicans are too into helping themselves and there is a double standard when it comes to how money is spent.

  22. BULLETS OR BALLOTS

I`m just glad that Obama has a plan and took some action. All Bush and Cheney did was sit in the White House and eat pretzels and collect their paychecks, while millions of Americans don`t know where their next paycheck is coming from and they had no plan and took no action and they just let the nation fall into the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression. I know that Obama is not the messiah and that he is not perfect, nor do I expect him to be.But he does have a plan and he is trying to take action to put this country back to work. Sitting in the White House, with no plan and doing nothing but dreaming about getting drunk and going deer hunting like Bush and Cheney did for eight years, while the nation falls into a economic catastrophe, is not a option.

  23. BlaKKJaKK

@6 Alexis – if you fact check Bill O’Reilly his “No Spin Zone” the irony is you find its more spin than fact. Both O’Reilly and Rush both will make up facts or distort just to make arguments.

@9 blahblah – Unnecessary social programs? What do you think is going to get us out of this depression? A study by Moodys estimates that for every tax dollar we spend on food stamps, we get back about $1.7, every dollar we spend on infrastructure a $1.3, tax breaks for the middle class $1.03 and finally tax breaks to corporations a $.30. The bang for the buck is food stamps and building roads. You might have heard of something that saved our butts the last time this happened, it was called the New Deal. Tax cuts for corporations and the rich don’t help anyone except the rich.

It was cool to have an intelligent president again. One that could actually answer a question with some thought rather than just stamping his foot and repeating tag lines.

The saddest thing about the stimulus now is that the Dems have had to put too many tax cuts for the rich in it, about 30% at this point to get enough Republican votes to get it through the Senate. What a waste. 30% for a $.30 return on our tax dollar.

  24. dukesman2000

–I like the press conference yesterday. Obama was forceful, direct, and persuasive.
    – It was like he was back on the campaign trail and I loved the fact that he reminded
    — everyone that he won the election and currently has the highest approval rating of
—- any president; so obviously the PEOPLE have confidence in his leadership. The
    — republicans are opposing the bill hoping it fails so they can run an “I Told You So”
    — campaign in the next election. They do not care about Americans or getting us
    — out of these doldrums, they are playing hard just to play hard. It is time Obama
    — put away this bi-partisan bullsh!t because obviously these guys do not want to
    – play ball. While he is trying to be inclusive and transparent the republicans are just
—- lying in the bushes trying to throw monkey wrenches in his policies. They want to
—- sit on their hands and do nothing, hoping that the market fixes itself, while
—- hundreds of thousands of people lose their jobs. My grandmother used to have a
    – saying “while elephants play the grass gets trampled.” It has never been more
    —- fitting.

  25. I agree with everyone above…. The stimulus package is not about checks. Its about creating jobs and jumpstarting our economy.

    #12 Said it Perfectly!!!!!

  26. Beezy

    I agree #24

And what is also sad is that the president has bent over hands and knees to include the Republicans, even let three Republicans in his cabinet, and those three motherf*ckers ain’t even supporting it. The Dems have included those shady tax cuts for the wealthy, and those shady Republicans still want budge. U know what I say to bi-partisanship, f*ck it! The Republicans are trying to prepare for next election with this games of politics, while we are at home suffering. My vote is till Obama for 2012! Obama, be careful not to bend over too far, you might find something in your a*s you don’t want to be there! I respect that Obama is a “nice guy”, but don’t get weak, continue to have that same power that you invoked in that press conference.

  27. Beezy

Dukesman, U r Exactly Right! Bi-Partisanship is WACK! Obama tried, now its time to get some work done. With or without John McCain, Rush Limbaugh and Michale Steele (Uncle Tom). Republicans think they are slick picking this puppet M.Steele to counter Obama’s plan. (Dukesman) I think I heard you call him Uncle Tom! If i knew you, we would get along….lol

  28. aojeo

I heard the news earlier at [millionaire friends. com], where celebrities, pro athletes and wealthy singles mingle. Many wealthy people are talking about it there. …

  29. just tell'n the... truth

our president and the first lady barack and michelle; really shine i mean they stand out, and they reach out and they are VERY inclusive to all and i mean everyone friend and foe. its a new direction a new course at a time in history where the wealthy few “republicans” have redirected, [again] the money of the tax payers in their coffers. they do this every 20yrs when they spend down that old money from previous raids on the system and that money gets low. and they say hell; lets scheme up another war or get w/ the saudi’s drive up the price of oil and get filthy rich and demand tax cuts and capital gains cuts again . all you republicans of the have and have more; you know what i’am talking about. but now they got the G-5 OR G-7. other countries as partners in crime and its called goblization.now look at the first lady kick’n it w/ the native americans givi’n all women their prop’s. when i was in tulsa ok ‘the land of the native americans’ you can still see the pain in their eyes and anger. after years of being put the on the back burner. our first couple have reached out. and said come on “walk with me” down this path of inclusion. when the true landlords of these united states seemed left out and all but forgotten. now you can’t beat that w/ a stick. we people got to shake-off them haters and non appreciaters and press on. and not let them underminding power greedy republicans slick us.

  30. dukesman2000

    —-@Breezy

—I called Michael Steele the biggest Uncle Tom in the history of Uncle Toms

  31. dukesman2000

    –I meant Beezy

  32. Simpylovely

Yeah this is the top power couple! Love them!

  33. #9 you’re being far too unrealistic and jumping to conclusions. Damn, only 3 weeks and people are already complaining?

I watched this last night. It was wonderful seeing him on my TV.

  34. dukesman2000

    —@# 9

—You ain’t fooling anyone here…your dumbass did not vote for Obama, so what’s the
—”I am not voting for him again” bullsh!t? Barack did not need your vote back in Nov
—-and he will not need it again in 2012….so guess what that makes you?
    —-I R R E L E V A N T!!!!!!

  35. Antionette

@23,Bullets or Ballots! I AGREE,and now Obama has to spend so much time, money and energy correcting Bush`s mistakes and neglect.

  36. chloe

why do every black person think they are part native american, when only less than 5 percent really are!!!

  37. MONRAEA

Those Republicans that are sitting in the house of Senate need to stop resisting. This man is truely trying to get us a foot out of the grave and they just want us to stay burried. Based on the reports of recession being worse than the Depression I think that even the rich will be effected. I will be gettin the good while the good is good to be gettin. lol

  38. Wet Ears, Opened Eyes

    Judah, where are you ????

email me- okkk@yahoo.com, I have a question for you

  39. Frau T

Well, it seems as if a lot of people were drinking the Koolaide during last night’s press conference. I don’t get how you can stimulate a failing economy with more debt? Just because Obama wants do something doesn’t mean it is right. Some people seem to be falling into the trap they accused Bush supporters of doing.

Also, come up with something else other than blaming Bush. Everyone is pretty much to blame for this crisis. The people running Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were Democrats! They handed out mortgages to people, who couldn’t afford them! That sparked the foreclosure mess…

FYI: a depression is worse than a recession.

By the looks of this things, this so-called “stimulus” package will lead us into a full-blown depression. SMDH..

  40. Beezy

    @ 37
Can u stay on course? Damn!

  41. Beezy

    @ 40
Do your homework, you are dumb as hell….. Whether McCain won or Obama, this is necessary… I suggest an investment in a econimic class at your nearest community college… (Tryna help ya out)
