POLITICS: WEEKLY ADDRESS / PRESIDENT’S ECONOMIC RECOVERY ADVISORY BOARD

Sunday, February 8, 2009

In the weekly address, Pres. Barack Obama commends the progress the Senate has made on moving the recovery plan forward, and urged its completion.

Shortly before 11:30 Friday night, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told his colleagues that debate on the plan would continue Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The Senate is expected to vote on the plan Tuesday.

PRESIDENT’S ECONOMIC RECOVERY ADVISORY BOARD

On Friday, Pres. Barack Obama established the new President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board during an event in the East Room of the White House. The board, led by former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Paul Volcker, will offer independent advice to the President as he formulates and implements his plans for economic recovery. A list of board members is available.

According to Pres. Obama:

“I’m not interested in groupthink, which is why the Board reflects a broad cross-section of experience, expertise, and ideology. We’ve recruited Republican and Democrats; veterans of government and the private sector; advocates for business and labor. Not everyone is going to agree with each other, and not all of them are going to agree with me – and that’s precisely the point. Because we want to ensure that our policies have the benefit of independent thought and vigorous debate.”

I don’t know if it’s going to work 100%, but I know I want the Republicans to grow up. I’m really sick of the politics as usual. If they don’t want to play nicely then the dems should remove ALL of the tax cuts they wanted in the first place. We have enuff votes with the 3 moderate Republicans. The others just want to drag their feet as if America is not hemorrhaging jobs. It’s so frustrating.

I don`t know if this stimulus package will completely turn around the poor shape of the economy,but even if it somewhat helps the economy,it will be better than George W. Bush. Already the Obamas have accomplished more in their first few weeks, than Bush did in 8 years.Bush never made a effort to visit teenage homeless shelters or deal directly with the local black people in D.C.,or show Alvin Ailey`s dance company some love like Barack & Michelle have. At least with the Obamas,America has a chance at a fresh start and to change the negative culture,and direction of the nation under Bush.

hang in there prez; maybe soon them republicans and them democrats who crafted that [crap] they call a stimulus pkg will finally get it together real soon. and then they better be ready to deliver. at the top of the list are the struggli’n states of ohio– penn— mich– please somebody throw a life line to calif. send cash quick. cause that state is always in your corner. but the SEN. from mississippi ; the ol southern red state of dixie. said he don’t want no stimulus money if strings are attached. its like you have your presidency at stake on this stimulus pkg. and the republicans know this w/ their underminding tails. and their “svengali” rush limb;. what the democrats should realize while they hammer through this bill, they have a 24% APPROVAL RATING. AND THAT YOU SHOULD NOT BE THE ONLY ONE explaining and taking this case to the people. cause its democrats who usually get the BACKLASH and gets the blame . and again education suffers, from cuts to the stim pkg.. the schools that can be found in the suburbs are doing well i bet. prez your plate is getting loaded. but like you told the dems at that retreat. how you put it ; that E—V–E—R–Y- DAY MICHELLE lets you know that you ain’t above it or all that… i fell out laughing the way prez looked in the crowd and the way he said it……. right on FIRST LADY right on.

I think that this is very, very sad! @ 10 & 11

The Republicans again are draggin their feet on the issues, banking on a failure from President Obama! This party needs to be banned, and we should just bring one of the other third parties into the spotlight. As a Democrat and Obama supporter, we are not worshiping this man, we have hope in a politics of the people, for the people and by the people! Stop ranting nonsense, they have Fox news blogs for your kind! This stimulus will work, and advancing the infrastructure and educational system is a good place to start! Just plain tax relief will not cut it, we tried that already! Remember Bush? Do you honestly think that the Republicans are not supporting the package for the American good? No! They are playing the game of “politics”, and are trying to stain the image of Obama and the Democrats! Will you be willing to take this from the same people who got us here in the first place!
~ How can you compare Obama to Hitler!? The only comparison is their amazing oratory skills, but their objectives and motives are the exact opposites! OBAMA’08!

Obama’s transition team was chosen by a group hired to vet these people. After the people are vetted, they assure the president that this individual has an outstanding track record. Therefore, the president puts his confidence and seal of approval on these individuals. I am just glad that these people were not confirmed. Beezy, don’t go there. Again, I am so tired of people naming random dictators that remind them of Obama. Hitler was a fascist who was more in line with a fringe conservative mindset. Why? Fascists believe in maintaining a strong military to coerce. Hmm..Didn’t our last administration use military first, and questions later? Conservatives, Republicans, and their followers have to get their historical facts straight and figure it out, is Obama a Marxist or a Fascist? He can’t be both at the same time.

@Beezy

I’m guesing you never heard the type of things Hilter said or how he changed after he was elected.

I hope he has better change than this. Did they remove the funding grant for ACORN. Thats one of the things that wont help the econmy or the people.
