Serena and Venus Williams hold the winners trophy after defeating Ai Sugiyama of Japan and Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia in the women’s doubles final match at the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne this weekend.
Serena and Venus won their eighth career Grand Slam women’s doubles title and the sisters claimed their third Australian Open doubles trophy when they overpowered their opponents in just 75 minutes.

And just a day after wining the doubles match with her sister, Serena Wiliams won her fourth Australian Open Title after her match against Dinara Safina of Russia. This brings her total Grand Slam tally to 10 in one of the most one-sided deciders ever.

I am big fans of the Williams sisters b/c they are in the media in a POSITIVE way unlike someothers. They are a POSITIVE influence on young people and hopefully allow them to understand that you can do something constructive with your life and acheive success despite having TWO major STRIKES against you …. black & female!

Actually Venus got a degree in “design or fashion” last year. Their father did not have them on the circuit when they were young like so many other tennis parents did. They are well rounded and enjoy life. Tennnis isn’t everythhing. This mindset is what has allowed them to be champions for so long. In tennis,they aren’t exactly spring chickens. The fact that they’ve had breaks whether due to family tragedy(sister getting killed and parents devorcing)or injury really has prolonged their career.
