UPDATE: JAY-Z SPEAKS ON RIHANNA / RIHANNA’S FATHER SPEAKS
Sunday, February 15, 2009
I’ve been getting emails from readers asking why I haven’t been updating on the Chris Brown and Rihanna incident and it’s because I REFUSE TO POST SPECULATIONS AND RUMORS. However, I will post statements and facts.
With that said, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z spoke with People Magazine on Saturday night about the incident and expressed his support for Rihanna.
“This is a real situation,” he said in Phoenix at the Sprite Green presents the Third Annual Two Kings dinner with Jay-Z and Lebron James, as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend.
“You have to have compassion for others. Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that. I just think we should all support her. She’s going through a tough time. You have to realize she’s a young girl, as well. She’s very young.”
Asked if he’d seen Rihanna, Jay-Z replied, “I don’t want to go into it.” [source]
RIHANNA’S FATHER SPEAKS
People also had a chance to speak to Rihanna’s father, Ronald Fenty, this past Thursday:
When he first heard that his daughter had been attacked by Chris Brown, “I didn’t believe it.”
“I know my daughter,” said Fenty, 55. As for Brown, he said, “You think you know somebody, but you really don’t.”
Describing Rihanna’s current condition after seeing her in Barbados on Thursday, Fenty said, “There is some bruising. She will be all right. I think so.”
He adds, “At some point, she will speak out. I hope she will stand up for women all over the world.” [SOURCE]
According to her father, Rihanna is currently recouping in Barbados with friends and family. Chris Brown, on the other hand, is reportedly in Virgina with family and is expected to be back in LA on March 5th for his scheduled court date.

I love Jay-z and Rihanna.
Rihanna has to recover soon, she’s the biggest rn’b artist in the world right now. She has to get it together and starting working on her new album together with Jay-z.
She has so many friends, i guess rihanna will do fine.

Secondly, as a fan of both artists, I feel bad for them both. I wish them both the best, and hope they get the help they need, and are able to fully recover from this.

I do not feel bad for Chris! I think he should keep his damn hands off WOMEN PERIOD!
It pisses me off because these men come from women and would NEVER want someone to hit, bite, kick scratch their mom’s or sisters. And that bull crap about RIRI and CHRIS management trying to keep them together for the public’s eye…BS! And RIRI needs to know when to let go. It was so obvious that he wasn’t that into to her at the Grammy (Clive) party. I wish women learn when it’s time to let go just go!
In the mean while I will say that these companies that give endorsements then take them back is a little crazy! ALLOW him to be guilty first! SHIT he’s punish before they can say guilty.
And T.I came back with a “I’m sorry I didn’t know how bad things were” WTF EVER his record label told him to say that!
And as far as her speaking out if she chose to go right ahead if it was me! I wouldn’t! People need to mind their business. As people we are always looking for a leader someone we can look up to. Well, I have news for you NO ONE is perfect ONLY GOD! We all will make mistakes. And this is between Chris, RIRI LA police and their family. Sometimes I think we need to focus on our problems. Everyone has an opinion but send the message to kids that NO ONE is perfect he made a mistake that he needs to learn from!
The Question is will he learn from it?

thanks angel for putting up the facts and not spreading rumors like some other blogs [that shall remain unnamed but i'm sure that we know a couple].
i feel really sorry for rhianna because when you look at it, she’s the one who came up bruised and chris brown had nothing on him. i tried to think that maybe it wasn’t his fault but to be honest, when a singer is being promoted, no one ever really sees the negative. its pretty much impossible to know what happened to lead up to this until one of them really speaks out but i hope the best for both of them. they really need it in these hard times.

I respect the fact that you are not posting the rumors and speculation….I’m so over all this mis-reporting. I would rather wait until the entire truth comes out before starting to bash ppl. However, the situation is a sad one in deed, and it should be a lesson to all that you have to really put thought to things you do b/c the consequences/blacklash regardless if it is warranted or not can be grave for careers and lives.

i’m confused. i thought she said her father was a wife-beater. i remember reading that both her and chris had that in common. i figured that he wasn’t in her life anymore but i guess he is.
anyway i really want to know what happened. i like that cl isn’t posting rumors though b/c i’ve heard some outlandish things. i didn’t want to pass judgment on anyone b/c we don’t know what happened and ppl are too quick to believe everything that they read. for all we know her injuries could’ve been even worse than reported or they could’ve been less. his fleeing from the scene could’ve been a mad dash that screams “i’m guilty” or it could’ve been a “i’m sick of this” walk away. ppl love scandals and throw in their comments as as if they or the reporters were there. ppl don’t even know how tmz and other sources got their info or from whom yet everyone was so ready to believe it. these statements from jay and the father definitely shed light into the situation. THIS is what ppl should’ve been listening to. it definitely means chris attacked her

I dont understand why anyone would feel sorry for Chris brown even if your a stan. At the end of the day a man should NEVER lay his hands on a woman, beat her- it doesnt matter whether a woman provokes him or not a real man would walk away! I believe ppl feel sorry for Chris because,
one hes young,
two hes successful and establish
and three he *probably did not mean to hurt Rihanna* but EVERYBODY knows anger can cause negative consequences(whether its hurting someone or self). The fact is nobody is perfect everybody is entitled to a mistake. Im pretty sure Rihanna had her 2cents in the situation w/Chris but, that doesnt give him the right to lay his hands on her. So basically like the cliche states 2 wrongs NEVER makes it right.

Um didnt jay-z slap some woman behind stage at a concert? Guess when he hit that woman he didnt think that that was his mother, his sister, his daughter, his wife, or his niece.
the boy is only 19, and people tend to forget that very quickly. We arent talking about a 35, 40 year old man, we are talking about a boy. Who is learning, and developing, just like the rest of teenagers, except for he is in and under the PUBLIC EYE Constantly. Go to a college campus, and look at all the the things teenage boys (and girls do). Its apart of being human we do make mistakes. And i earnestly think this was something that he didnt intend to do.
and to the comment “doesnt matter whether a woman provokes him or not a real man would walk away!”
but what if you are in the car driving and someone is repeatedly hitting you? (not saying that is what happened but just presented a theory) At what point as women, who desired, protested, and march for equality amongst men do we say there no difference between a man hitting a woman, and a woman hitting a woman? Just posing a question for thought.
And while I am not condoning what he allegedly did, because it is wrong and i have much sympathy for her, but i do feel sorry for him. I have three young male cousins ( one of them eerily resembles Chris Brown). They are 19 and 18, and whenever i see people attack him, it automatically makes me think about my younger cousins. Who are the sweetest people, yet they still make mistakes, get in altercations with their parents or their older/younger siblings. They are still trying to understand themselves and what makes them tick.

I love Jay Z and everything, but I remember the picture on the net a while ago of him smushing the hell out of some girls face, and that was someone’s sister, daughter or friend. I mean I understand that Rihanna is his artist and its a business and he has to support her, but until all of the facts come out I think we should all support Chris and Rihanna. I don’t condone a man hitting a woman EVER, but Chris has not been charged with any domestic crimes and the charges he was arrested on were suspicion of criminal threats, which means to me that the police and DA are having some issues with putting a domestic abuse or assult case against Chris Brown together. Because if the pictures and allegations were what the media protrayed them to be he would be charged by now, in my opinion.
Again, I don’t condone a man hitting a woman EVER, but both Chris and Rihanna are young, celebrities in love (or were in love) and I just think we should wait for the facts from the DA’s office to be released and also wait for the statements from both camps to be released before we make judgements.

I actually respect CL for not being the standard blog that post gossip and nonsense that doesn’t have factual evidence. Much respect Angel for the running the blog that way. As for the this Rihanna and Chris situation yes he was wrong and for hitting her, he must take responsibility for it and own up to what he did but we need not point fingers or judge because we were no there, there are three sides to every story, his side, her side and the truth

Whats wrong with posting rumours and speculation? As there are so many rumours (some stupidly silly), It could be useful to address the rumours, but to let it be known “it’s unlikely to be true” or “this is def not true because…” (like some other sites).
So long as it’s stated that it is JUST rumours and speculation and so long as the rumour you’re addressing is not obviously false. I feel CL plays it too safe SOMETIMES. At the end of the day, you are not going to add fuel to the fire by posting certain stories because you yourself are not claiming the information to be truth…and CL is real/legit, not some random, overly tabloid type site…that’s why we come here.

I am staggered by those who seem to think the throwing of a set of car keys is justifiable provocation. I was equally dumb founded that in the twenty first century there are people out there who would prefer Rihanna took one for the team, (whatever team that is) in that in their warped logic she should live her life like some (Billie Holiday) torch song. Hell to the no with ” I rather my man done hit me, than for him to jump up and quit, t ain’t nobody’s business if I do” New century, new songs and thank god more enlighten times for our women. At least Brown’s biological father (a correctional officer) had the decency to acknowledge what has happened. However, whilst I do believe his father when he claimed his son is allegedly remorseful, I suspect Brown Junior is more remorseful over the instant bad public reaction he has received and the possible damaging affects this might have on his career. And for those of you out there who say he is only young, if he can be involved in a relationship and want to allegedly pimp slap a woman, and he is old enough to drive a Lamborghini, he is certainly old enough to face up to the consequence of his actions. Finally, if it is true, what I find unforgivable is the fact that Brown has not lived his entire live in a bubble. He should know as a man of colour that a predominately white media will only too quickly attack you, if you are fool enough to act out their self fulling stereotypical prophecies. Young man,you need a check up from the neck up-and real soon!!

Guess what Jay, Chris is younger than Rihanna. No one knows exactly what happened and no one will. I think there is a lesson here; if you have a son, make sure he knows the proper way to react if his girl slaps the sh#t out of him/becomes physically abusive toward him (this does happen). Also, what message are we giving our daugthers when we allow them to hit their brothers (or hit them in the face with a glass bottle) and their brothers aren’t allowed to hit them back. I think the whole situation is unfortunate but they both need to take responsibility for their behavior. As for Jay, I would love to see what he would do if Bey hauled off and knocked the sh@t out of him one time too many. Would he react like a 40 year old or a 19 year old?

Of course, there are his version, her version and the truth like someone said before. I cant accept Chris Brown’s behaviour, thats WEAK; also I hope its a lesson learned for Rihanna. Those 2 must have a therapy because both of them were indeed in troubled parents’ relationships and I always say the fruit doesnt fall far away from the tree.
I believe in redemption and I forgive Chris Brown and Rihanna. This is a big problem here, we see that everyday, WE ALL SAW THE BABY BOY MOVIE, but Ive seen worse, there are celebs so of course, its unfortunately for them public, I know some celebs are women beaters as well and some even killed but oh well, we still have fun with their songs. We never know what can happen behind closed doors.
Chris Brown’s career will be seen differently, he has been attached with the image of a sweet and innocent smiling kid who loves life and is gentle, he is no longer, and Rihanna, if she is that innocent is going to make benefit of it I assume will defend this cause for women in/who underwent the same case, so it will still be a shade for Chris Brown.
We need the truth for both and I admit I feel bad for Chris Brown cuz I know its not entirely his fault and he is really sweet. I wish them both a lot of success and peace.

Angel, CL etc, thats why I rep u, Brownsista and Afrobella . Much respect to you lot.
I dont clock the other blogs, if it comes on the news, then i’ll watch but thats it until more facts come out. I’ve said what i’ve thought on the matter. People are playing it out to the death for their own warped personal gain.
Flipping MTV are making a documentary tomorrow, 1 week after this fiasco started. :-@
What do they know that people already don’t know. kmt

Thank You Jesus! Because Rihanna`s dad said, the same thing that I said, when he said that you think you know somebody and you really don`t.See! Rihanna thought she knew Chris but she really did`nt. She,like a lot of people, incorrectly thought that Chris is this sweet guy/pretty boy, that was not capable of violent behavior. Chris Brown is a fighter! He grew up seeing domestic violence and being teased and laughed at by bully kids, but he himself, not rumors or gossip, has said in past interviews, that he is not a sweet or soft guy and ,that those bully kids who teased him growing up,stopped laughing when they saw Chris violently fight back with the fury of a pitbull.

Why do people keep saying he’s a woman beater. We’ve only really heard her side of the story. For all I know she could of went “thin line btw love and hate” on him and threw herself into the windshield of the car.

The Real Why?

#57….the world isn’t made up of people who are currently chris brown/rihanna fans….this incident has exposed rihanna to a whole lot of people who may not have paid her much mind before this (who aren’t chris brown fans)….she’s getting a lot of attention and, when all of this is cleared up, she’ll be a prime candidate for orpah’s couch. and once you get on oprah’s couch, there’s no telling what can happen for your
ps: virginia?? LOL…there are many major tours that don’t stop in virginia…rihanna will be fine
