First lady Michelle Obama served lunch at ‘Miriam’s Kitchen’ which provides meals, case management services and housing support to nearly 250 homeless men and women on Thursday in Washington, D.C. The visit was a part of the first lady’s effort to connect with the Washington, D.C. community and also highlight the city’s best practices.

Brad Pitt Discuss The “Make It Right” Project
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), actor Brad Pitt, and Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) arrive to speak to the media following a meeting to discuss the ‘Make it Right’ project on Thursday in Washington, DC.
The project, launched in 2007, helps to construct affordable and environmentally-sustainable housing for low-income residents of the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans who lost their homes as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

I think it’s sad that not more black celebs are taking action regarding the post katrina situation. Or maybe it’s the typical media; no coverage when we’re out doing good thangs.

I don’t want to sound mean but I’m sick of seeing Brad Pitt. I know he’s trying to do good but the whole Brangelina thing has gotten old, they don’t have to be in the spotlight all the time, on the covers of magazine with every child Angie gives birth to, to make a difference in the world. I think that Brad and Angelina are doing a lot for the causes that they support. They donate not only money but time and energy to bring light to situations that white america wouldn’t even bother with and that is comendable. I know that they wish more than anything they weren’t in the paparazzi’s limelight but while they are they are going to use it for good. I love them as a couple!

Big ups to Ice T and Chrisette. There should be more emphasis on keeping music in schools. I played in the band in high school and if it wasn’t for the band a lot of us would have not been interested in school. Down here in New Orleans (Pre-Katrina) band practice were like a social gathering and it brought kids together. We challenged other schools during football and parade season – it was exciting for us band-heads.
As for Brad Pitt giving back to the community – that’s what’s up. BUT there is more to New Orleans than the lower 9th ward and the French Quarters. There are ppl who live in between those areas. More than the lower 9th ward was under water.

#9: Why would you be offended by those who try to help others, regardless of who they are or how much coverage/exposure they get? Thats the problem not enough people are trying to make a difference and when someone does petty ones have something to say.
I think more people who are financially blessed should should jump on the bandwagon and help does who are in need.
