On April 1 on PBS, viewers can tune-in to a new half-hours special, Coming Home: Military Families Cope With Change, featuring Queen Latifah, John Mayer and Elmo. This half-hour special, part of Sesame Workshop’s ongoing initiative, Talk, Listen, Connect, tells stories of service members who return home with injuries, visible and invisible, and explores the heroic struggles their families face in discovering a new way of finding a “new normal.”
On the episode Queen Latifah speaks on her father’s battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD):
“My father actually suffered from PTSD. He was a veteran of Vietnam and I know he’s helped a lot of his friends from Vietnam and from other wars to try to get treatment and get help… it was very challenging for us as a family, so I can kind of relate to what the kids have gone through because it can challenge your relationships… [My father] just really explained that he saw a lot very difficult things that were hard to deal with and it was hard for him to deal with them emotionally and psychologically. I started to understand it. Luckily he sought treatment…and it really made a big difference because it helped him to recognize what was going on.”
Coming Home, which premieres in conjunction with April as the “Month of the Military Child,” salutes the extraordinary courage and strength of these military families and offers the general public a powerful glimpse into what they often must endure

aww love elmo
Me like Elmo too! Who’s that blue one though? Haven’t watched SS in a while.
They still do Sesame St? I feel old as hell lol
Oh great topic love that.
And I got a thang for Oscar the Grouch, hehe!!
Wheres the cookie monster at? He’s hillarious
Oh ignore me I’m going crazy, it says sesame street lol
Its good that Queen L is raising awareness for PSTD, it might help kids with parents who have it to understand theyre not alone
Elmo is the sh!t
That is a wonderful idea! It’s great that Sesame Street has taken the challenge of helping children at that level really understand what it means when vets come home from war. The emotional scars are so deep it’s difficult for a child to understand that things may not go back to “normal” as they feel or as they once knew. Great love it!
Love to Latifah for stepping up and sharing her story.
Did Miss Thang lose any weight on Jenny Craig?
Cool..GO MISS QUEEN!
NEWS: THE DREAM AND MS. MILIAN ARE ENGAGED! LOL

Q My v-o-t-e mattered, that is Rosita. She is a hispanic muppet. She is adorable. have kiddies so I end up watching this stuff. Love Queen Latifah. She is so positive. Somebody asked about her weight loss. If you remember when she first came out endorsing JC, she would never say how much she planned to lose and as she was losing would never give a number, just that she had lost maybe 10% of her bodyweight. I think she knew straight up a sista could not commit to the nasty azz fiood for too long, LOL. Still love her the way she is.
Good for them, I’m glad at least someone addressing PTSD, even if it’s a children show.
Sesame Street seems to be approaching this more that the government.
My elder uncle was in the Vietnam war, and he never talks about it, it’s been a long time too. All he say’s is “we should’ve never been in Nam”
