Recording artist/designer/actor Andre 3000 (best known for being the other half of Outkast) has been charged with driving 109 mph on a highway in suburban Atlanta.
Henry County Police Capt. Jason Bolton says the entertainer, whose real name is Andre Benjamin, was clocked speeding in a 65 mph zone in his Porsche south of Atlanta about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28th.
The 33-year-old Benjamin is free on $1,200 property bond pending a court date April 29.
Benjamin’s publicist, Eufaula Garrett, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Police say Benjamin told them he was going so fast because he missed an exit and had to turn around.
As the Grammy-winning Outkast, Andre 3000 and Big Boi have churned out six platinum-plus albums, including their ubiquitous “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.”

Why do they have to arrest him tho? Was it really necessary??? Actor Matt Dillon (white) was ticketed $848.00 for speeding the same way and they didn’t even arrest him! WTF is up with this country?! I understand the limit was excessive but there has to be fairness. He didn’t deserve to get arrested, when someone else was just given a ticket for the same actions.

I found out though from a friend that lives in Atlanta a little while ago that speeding in Atlanta or Georgia, I’m not sure which one, but it’s a misdemeanor there. I’m from PA, but when I speed It’s just a moving traffic violation. He was just in the wrong place speeding lol. I feel bad for him. Let that man go and pay a fee damn. Why didn’t he just get a ticket for speeding. I know it varies in different states, but even if they arrested him, they had no business releasing his mug shot. I hope he sues them and makes an example that by law police authorities have no right to release mug shot photos.

Techincally people, the cops are so supposed to arrest you if you are caught going more than 20 miles over the speed limit. Me frankly, if I was a cop, I would be more inclined to arrest someone for talking on the cell phone while driving or putting on make up, than I would for someone who’s speeding. Why? Because, if you are speeding you tend to be more focused and locked in.

@7 It depends on the state or city. Some will lock you up depending on how much you are going over the speed limit. Some will if its over 10 of the speed limit.

Drivers in Atlanta are Ca-razy though! They go over 70mph in bumper to bumper traffic! I got my first ticket visiting Atlanta. I went 10 or 15mph over the speed limit. Ticket was 400, had to show up for court, take a driving class and show up for court again to show them I took the class and pay the ticket…. what happened to just mailing the money in???
