According to reports, music mogul DAMON DASH has been handed divorce papers from his wife, fashion designer RACHEL ROY. Roy filed a divorce suit in New York’s Manhattan Supreme Court earlier this month, signaling the end of her marriage to the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder, who she married in Mexico in January 2005.
And it seems Roy, who launched her own women’s fashion line with her husband’s backing, is aware of the hip-hop executive’s financial woes as the divorce is for “non monetary relief”, according to an electronic record of the case obtained by the New York Daily News.
The publication reports that Dash is facing foreclosure on his two Tribeca, New York properties and owes $2 million in state taxes. A judge also ordered Manhattan officials to seize his car last year after he failed to make his monthly payments. And Dash’s troubles don’t end there – he is also being sued by various law firms and landlords over allegedly unpaid bills. DAMN DAME!!

Is this a surprise? Rachel is trying to move in the high fashion/Anna Wintour circles. Dame could move in those circles with Rachel at his side as long as he had some money to smooth his thug-roughened edges, but now that he’s broke? He’s a liability to Rachel’s ability to make money b/c she can’t be a fashion designer whose image is of clean, crisp luxury, and be broke.
Rachel was married before to a NBA player back in the 90′s. He played for New Jersey. An african named Yinke or something like that. He died a few years ago of a heart attack, but that was after Rachel divorced him. Rachel was the woman who Dame kicked to the curb when he met Alliyah. When she died, he went back to Rachel. I wish them both the best.
Personally, I don’t care how much money a man has. If I’m not happy, if there’s a lack of support, or even if you’re an inconsiderate jackass: You couldn’t pay me to stay in a relationship. I don’t know the exact details but, Dame’s been irresponsible with his money ( anybody remember his shoe called “CEO’s”…yeah didn’t think so). This woman has kids and if their father is out making dumb ass money decisions why should she have to stay and put her and her girls through it?

I dont think this has anything to do with Gold digging….I thought so at first but this is a chess move. If damon Dash is about to take a hit He’s not wanting His old lady’s assets to be affected by this so Im thinking that he’ll get the divorce, still kick it with his wife and put any of his successful business in her name. Or some to that affect. So what when he files for bankruptcy they’ll only cease his diminishing assets.
Honestly, is anyone really suprised at this news? I have a bit of respect for Damon Dash as a business man; but he never struck me as the type that would make a good husband or boyfriend. Even when he was dating Aaliyah (R.I.P.) back in the day, there were rumors that he was stepping out on her. Nobody likes to see a marriage end in divorce, but this one didn’t shock me.

Have yall ever thought that maybe she’s divorcing himto save her own assests?!?!?! This is the only way her money won’t be collected in all the lawsuits and seizures he has going on. I’m sure it would be a good strategy to protect at least half of their collective assests from being seized. Rich folks do it all the time when they run into isues like this.
