OAKLAND POLICE SHOOTING

Three Oakland police officers have died and a fourth was declared brain dead one day after a shootout with a man following a traffic stop. The suspect was also shot and killed by police.
According to authorities, 26 year-old Lovelle Mixon shot motorcycle officers John Hege, 41, and Mark Dunakin, 40, when they pulled him over during a routine traffic stop. He then opened fire with an AK-47 on SWAT team sergeants Ervin Romas, 43, and Daniel Sakai, 35, when they tried to arrest him at his sister’s apartment two hours later. SWAT team officers returned fire and killed Mixon. Family members say he went on a shooting rampage because he didn’t want to go back to prison.

I live in the bay area…in the city right next to Oakland matter of fact and when I heard about this I immediately asked what the big deal is…I mean people die at the hand of police all the time and can’t even get a thorough investigation..and NO i’m not referring to the Oscar Grant incident because that was BART Police. However, when 4 policemen die they want to send police forces from Oakland, Vallejo, Alameda etc. to the scene. WTF. This incident was unfortunate and shows the disparity between cops and civilians in Oakland. They pulled Lovelle over for a ROUTINE STOP better known HARASSMENT. What was THE CAUSE for pulling him over OPD? *silence* riiiiight. Also, i want to point out that this is not a racist matter those cops just happened to be white… I feel bad that the cops lost their lives because they are human and have families, however, I feel like OPD and other PD’s around the nation need to take this incident as incentive as a means to RECONSTRUCT TRUST WITH THE COMMUNITY..not to enact more force on the community as a means of “safety.” In my eyes, Lovelle is a martyr…the police need to learn to stop effin with people…if they don’t more incidents like this will occur.

If we were on TMZ website and we read some of these comments from caucasians towards the murders of blacks we would go crazy. In the same regard I do not respect blacks that show racism toward another race. And for what it’s worth I am married to a black man. He may be a “white black man” like you claim Barack Obama is, but he is an individual who had the ability to separate himself from the madness that most black men subscribe too, including most of the “good” black men.

#1 . this criminal went to jail for six years for assault with a deadly weapon during an armed robery we was only out 9 months b4 he violated parole . WOW. what a wonderful citizen , the reason OAKLAND is the way that it is , and if this CRIMINAL would have stayed in prison where he belonged for police officers would have went home to their families that night . BLACK OR WHITE , their race shouldnt matter . cops dont get payed THAT much , when you really think about how many times they risk their lives , especially working in the city of Oakland. Everytime they get out on those streets they are risking their lives , but they do it anyway , because its their jobs! No one should be killed for doing their jobs , and nobody truely knows if these were crooked cops or not? so does that mean we just assume they are and therefore had to “take one for the time” that is RIDICULOUS !

Let’s get one thing clear, I am not making an excuse for the bad judgement of ANY INDIVIDUAL. And for anyone to judge a person by their job title or who they are associated with is wrong. It is time for us to stop making excuses all the way around. Yes, police officers protect their own. But we don’t protect ours. We don’t know how to stand together in a positive productive way. We deal in reaction rather than proaction. The police are here to serve and protect. Law abiding citizens have nothing to fear. People who have a clear understanding of the purpose of law inforcement don’t put themselves in situations that they feel victimized by the police. I work for parks and recreation and I have worked with the current acting police chief, several officers and others who’s goal is to change the cultural of the city. And it is people like you, who get more pleasure from continuing the miscommunication and hatred of people, who are also reacting to what ALL of us have created.
Let’s start talking about educating people about how to be accountable for their own actions, that young man made bad decisions. And I don’t believe that he was a bad person, but at some point you have to acknowledge that he did something that gave the OPD only one choice. Read up a little more about what happened. He walked over to the officers, shot them, stood over one and shot him again. They didn’t even get a chance to run his license to find out he had a warrant! Then he fled the scene, indangered the life of his sister and cousin who had nothing to do with the situation. And for what, because he made bad decisions for years and didn’t want to go to jail?
To compare a police deparment to Hitler’s army is just ridiculous. It is people like you that make people feel it’s ok to not be properly informed and ignorant to the possible solutions. Solutions that begin with each individual changing.

They were law abiding citizens weren’t they? Did he put himself in a situation to be victimized by the cops?
Let me tell you a story: Last week I was in Bedford, PA (about 6 hours from NYC) on work assignment. Now, it is not an overstatement when I say there are no Black people in Bedford. On my way back, I got pulled over by a cop. I wasn’t doing anything wrong, following the speed limit and all, because I know how they get down in Bedford. I passed a cop on the highway and as soon as she saw me she started to follow me. She followed me for a bout 30 minutes. She eventually pulled me over and when I asked why the hell she pulled me over, she said even though indicated before I changed lanes to get in front of her, I did not do it 20 miles back. I said to her, “can I ask you a question and I mean no disrespect? But the only reason you pulled me over was because I am Black.” She swore up an down and apologized for me feeling that way but I let her know that she can save the bullsh!t. The point is in this racist country, Black people don’t have to do anything for the police to impose their will on them, for no reason other than the fact that “they can.”

Sis, no disrespect to you, but I don’t think that you are aware of what “enlightened” is. Whoever is in power will be viewed as the bearer of the light.
