SPOTTED: FANTASIA IN D.C – REPRISING ROLE IN THE COLOR PURPLE

March 10th, 2009

Former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino stopped by The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C to announce she will reprise her lead role of Celie in the first North American touring production of The Color Purple.

The Kennedy Center released the news last week that Barrino will join the cast for the five-week engagement starting in June.

‘Tasia looks good minus all those horrid looking tattos.

I saw her on Broadway and she did a really good job. I was surprised ’cause that Lifetime movie gave me a headache.

Look at Fanny…She looks great! I spent some time with her CIAA weekend in Charlotte and she was as nice as nice could be…She will forever have a fan in me. She was just so utterly down to earth.

    @WILLPWR:

I agree with you. Fantasia does look great, but from a male perspective tatoos are so “unlady” like. I know I may start some tension but, ladies, that`s not a good look at all.

Yeah tattoo’s are a no no on a woman. When I was 16 my mom was gonna allow me to get inked. But now I look back, now 18 and thank God I didn’t damage my temple. Don’t get me wrong it looks ok on certain women but not everyone. It’s cute on Rihanna..

I live in Harlem and saw “The Color Purple” 3 times–once with Fantasia. She was great & I also was surprised b/c of her lackluster Lifetime movie performance. Her voice & depth gave me chills! if you can get here people GO SEE HER LIVE!

The show has been touring for well over a year. How is this the first North American touring production of the show? This is her first time on the tour and its first stop in DC but not the first tour.

    HONEST CRITIC

Love fantasia and she looks great. I do wish she didn’t have all of those tats but that’s beside the point. My mom saw her on broadway and said she was excellent with that role and her vocals were serious.

That movie, “The Color Purple” had to be one of the worst assassinations of the image of the black male that I’ve ever seen. Every black male character in the movie was either a child molester, rapist, or incompetent in some manner, while every black female character was “strong”, “oppressed”, “intelligent”, or “revolutionary” in some white jew contrived way. Black men with a brain need to take a look at that flick and see why black women, effeminate black “men”, and white people love it so much. Of course the spearhead is that top witch, Oprah Winfrey.

Fantasia looks stunning Im so happy for her. I hope she has a good run. As for #29 Me : Please let the reading jokes die ,that is so old. Besides you can’t even spell so how you gonna talk about her reading? As someone has already said she is somebody’s mother so dont be calling her out of her name, that is not necessary at all. Can’t somebody post something postive about her without people turning it negative?

maybe its just me, but why do people like her again? as an artist i mean
her voice is definitly unique but incredibly annoying and way too high pitched but maybe thats just me.

I seen her in Bloomingdales in NYC and shes so damn loud and ghetto she was screaming at her friend across the dresshirts depeartment talkin bout “girl people up in fragrances stay tryna sell me suttin!!” very ghetto fabulous

    **@ SARCASMIC**
I like Fantasia because she is very talented. I understand what you are saying about the voice. She can be a little extra sometimes but that comes from singing in church where you are taught to just put it all out there & I’m not mad @ that because she makes you feel the emotion of what she is singing about. The girl has damn near brought me to tears on more than one occasion. Plus she is very down to earth & approachable..unlike many of these other celebrities that walk around with their noses in the air & act too good to sign autographs or take pics with the fans. Not to mention many people can relate to her because although she’s on broadway & on tv she is still very open & candid about her struggles. Pick up her first CD if you don’t have it & also read her book. You might change your opinion.

    I agree with you 100% #43 Sarcasmic.
She can not sing to me. In fact she makes me cringe. I SANGER, lol makes your hair on your arms stand up, not cringe. She yells and in my book that’s not singing. She is annoying, her voice is sooo annoying. I guess she is for the hood because she isn’t a singer in my book. I can’t even listen to any of her songs, I’ve tried. I’ve tried to feel the hype and after how many years? I still don’t get it. NEXT>>
