Solange attends The Body Shop and MTV Networks’ Say Yes, Yes, Yes to Safe Sex event in New York on Tuesday.
Solange updated her twitter page earlier today with this info:
Today I have decided to dedicate myself to MTV’s “Staying Alive” campaign. Yes, Yes, Yes to safe sex to prevent HIV and AIDS. The Body Shop has created a great Lip Butter to support the campaign and proceeds go directly to the Staying Alive Foundation. This is a very scary topic, it could happen to ANY of us. 3,000 young people under 25 are infected with HIV daily! But it MUST be talked about!
My goal is to bring awareness in a very REALISTIC way. So many campaigns preach” Condoms Condoms Condoms” and it’s not getting thru..
Right now, there are over 33 million people living with HIV and AIDS around the world, and one of the main reasons is because people are having unprotected sex. You can do your part by taking to pledge to say yes to safe sex.

Yes, I will admit the irony here. However, are you guys saying that because she didn’t use a condom, she is forbidden from advising others to protect themselves of the dangers of condomless sex?

Most motivational speakers promote organizations and involve themselves with programs that deal with their very own past experiences.
I want someone who has experienced hardships speaking to me about these topics. The ones who have experienced these situations aren’t very judgmental and they usually speak very passionately about the topic because they have been there.
Solange has a story and she chooses to share it through this organization. Her story believe it or not will get others to listen and maybe even change their ways.
Also, this awareness organizations promotes safe sex for preventing HIV/Aids, not pregnancy.
Solange’s situation could have been a condom ripping, or no condom at all.
The outcome however, was a blessing and not a curse.
