Solange attends The Body Shop and MTV Networks’ Say Yes, Yes, Yes to Safe Sex event in New York on Tuesday.
Solange updated her twitter page earlier today with this info:
Today I have decided to dedicate myself to MTV’s “Staying Alive” campaign. Yes, Yes, Yes to safe sex to prevent HIV and AIDS. The Body Shop has created a great Lip Butter to support the campaign and proceeds go directly to the Staying Alive Foundation. This is a very scary topic, it could happen to ANY of us. 3,000 young people under 25 are infected with HIV daily! But it MUST be talked about!
My goal is to bring awareness in a very REALISTIC way. So many campaigns preach” Condoms Condoms Condoms” and it’s not getting thru..
Right now, there are over 33 million people living with HIV and AIDS around the world, and one of the main reasons is because people are having unprotected sex. You can do your part by taking to pledge to say yes to safe sex.
Just because you have made some bad or questionable choices in your life does not mean that you are forbidden or cannot give advice to others who may or are headed down the wrong path. Some of you people on here are so ignorant. Having a child at 17 has nothing to do with whether or not she is qualified to speak on safe sex. All of us should be promoting safe sex with all the new HIV/AIDS (and other STDS) and teen pregnancies we get on a daily basis. We all make mistakes and none of us are living in glass houses, good job Solange!

Solange honestly is her own woman and this is something I didn’t think she’d accomplish being Beyonce’s sister. Unlike Bey, I feel a certain genuineness from Solange. She’s MUCH more likeable.

Solange didn’t go through shyt. Her father forced her ex-husband into marrying her to cover up her indiscretions. Plus, the average person doesn’t have the means she does. She can pay someone to take care of her child. She still pretty much lives like she’s single with no responsibilities. How many of us can do that?

HEY EVERYONE… HOW ABOUT OUR CHILDREN PRACTICE ABSTINENCE OR SAFE SEX TO PREVENT TEEN AND YOUNG PREGNANCIES! How come people admitt that it’s a problem with AIDS but don’t face the fact that having a child at a young age isn’t a GOOD IDEA! I do think she’s contradicting herself by saying, use a condem to prevent aids, but isn’t standing up for NON TEEN PREGNANCY! I was amazed when she stood up for Jaimie Lynn Spears for being a teen mom when Jaimie was pregnant. That’s the only problem I have with her. I’m not trying to be MEAN to her or bring up the past but if you’re going to say one thing and do another, you’re being a bit hypercritical! I always wondered why people acted like having a child as a teen isn’t a BIG DEAL. I guess because people automatically think that’s saying “YOU”RE A BAD MOM” but some many financial and emotional issue go with being a young mom. I wish there were more organizations against this like their are with STDS!
