MOVIE BIT: AMERICAN VIOLET – IN THEATERS FRIDAY + MOVIE PREMIERE PICS

April 14th, 2009

We already posted the trailer for the movie American Violet starring Alfre Woodard, Xzibit and newcomer Nicole Beharie, but I decided to post it again, since the movie will be in Theaters on April 17th. Not to mention, they held the premiere in California on Monday night. Check out pics and more info below.

Based on a true story set in the midst of the 2000 Bush/Gore Presidential election, the film tells the story of Dee Roberts (played by Beharie), a 24-year-old African American single mother of four who is wrongfully swept up in a drug raid. The film will hit theaters on April 17th.

Interesting but the plot still seems predictable……this almost reminds me of one of T.D Jakes movies, HYPE but in the end a bunch of cliche

@ #7 THIS IS A TRUE STORY! MEANING IT WON’T END IN CLICHE IT WILL END SUCH AS IT DID IN LIFE! THIS IS BASED ON THE REGINA KELLY CASE FROM TEXAS. . . IT SHOWS HOW RACISM IS STILL ALIVE AND PROMINENT IN AMERICA, IT ALSO SHOWS SOME OF THE REASONS STATISTICS ABOUT BLACKS BEING IN JAIL ARE SO HIGH.

I saw the screening for this last week in NYC and IT truly is an amazing movie, you don’t suspect ANY of what you are going to see and it is not a predictable story or anything you could ever imagine happeening unless you live in a place that get’s drug raided daily. PLEASE PLEASE GO SUPPORT THIS FILM! Newcomer Beharie played an award-deserving role in this! I’m definetly going to see it again.

I saw it also and it’s really, really good. If you can relate to the struggles of an everyday sistah….you’ll enjoy it. I would say it’s a tough story, but not the usual stereotype and actually if you youtube the real-life woman regina kelly you’ll see that nicole beharie really captured her…..

excellent movie and if life was truly just, nicole beharie would be the next big black actresss, she will blow you away….

I saw the movie last night. Let me tell you that it will fill you with such outrage, you won’t believe it. Powerful story, executed well, but not greatly.

    Worth seeing.

When I was looking at her I thought the same thing but couldn’t remember Monica Calhoun’s name for nothing. But you are sooooo right. She is truly up and coming and needs to be recognized. She has the amazing talent of Elise Neal and Angela Bassett quality.

This movie was excellent. Nicole Beharie is an amazing actress who is sure to shine even brighter in future days to come. Her role was realistic and she puts me in the mind of acrtress Elise Neal because it’s obvious that she would be able to play any role given.
