MUSIC NEWS: GOAPELE WORKING ON NEW ALBUM + SNIPPET OF NEW SONG

I’m excited to announce that Oakland based singer, Goapele is currently working on a brand new album. This release will be a follow up to her 2005 album, Change It All.

The songstress, who is best known for her song, “Closer,” recently released a new song snippet via her official site. Below is a sneak peak of the song entitled, “MILK + HONEY.”

Make sure you stay locked to CL, for more info on Goapele and her new project! I’m so excited to hear more music from her.

  30. The Sponsor

    1. I am of the opinion that Goapele’s greatest appeal is her appearance.
    2. She is incredibly creative, but her vision doesn’t match her actual skill.
    3. If you’re still lost – she is basically tone deaf. Tone and pitch are serious problems in many of her recordings.
    4. That said, I can think of 2-4 songs of hers that I really enjoy.
    5. Here’s to hoping vocal lessons preceded this album.

The one and only – Sponsor. Rock with it.

  31. The Sponsor

    @ 22.

Amele Larrieux has made it big. She’s been around the world several times over. She won awards. She’s seen critical acclaim. And she’s had hits on both urban and pop radio. (think Groove Theory) I think she has also been around long enough to know that getting radio play and time on 106th & Park is not something to aspire to, if you respect your music and independence.

  32. Ari

Hey. I LOVE Goapele. She is one of Oakland’s best kept secrets. She has been out in the bay since 2001/2002 I believe. Good things come to those who wait and I think now is her time!

  33. Lisa

Love her, can’t wait for album!

  34. Really?

Love her….glad to see her back in the game!

  35. Kelly

Loves this chick!! Saw her perform w/ Floetry in San Diego, CA and met her in person. She’s sooo effin cool and pretty!!! Love her album and #32, you need stop and rock somewhere else! Her voice is amazing and she needs no vocal lessons. Hearing her live is just effin awesome!!! Love the bkground CL!! Keep it up!!

  36. caren

i love Goapele! when i moved to san francisco in 2004 they played her music a lot on the radio out here.

  37. Divine One

I love Goapele….can’t wait for this next project…..I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR HER MUSIC FLOOD THE AIRWAYS…LIKE ALL THESE OTHER ARTISTS WHO REALLY DON’T HAVE THAT MUCH SUBSTANCE IN THEIR MUSIC!!

  38. SHARDAE

Ok so, I love Goapele’s music and style but I don’t think I’ve actually heard anybody actually say her name and I think that I pronounce it wrong…how is it pronounced??

  39. Meat

    It’s sounds like “Jo-pla”.

  40. GUESS

    yipeeee i was hoping so!!

@32 i get some of what your saying. still love her music tho

crushed out, closer, you (feat. dwele) TUUUUUNES

  41. Cold as Fire Baby Hott as Ice

@33 I wasn’t undermining Amele’s achievments or stating that you need to be on 106 & park to be successful, what I meant was that a lot of the best artists in terms of talent aren’t getting the attention they deserve. A lot of people here in Europe have not heard of her or Goapele, and if they did they’d see how great these artists are. I only know about them because I’m a huge music fan. Others are yet to hear of them because of the way the industry works. Your reaction to my comment seemed a bit ott- its not that serious.

  42. CIRESLADY ONE

    I Like her Hair.

  43. ~Est.1974~

That joint “Closer” is a song of perfection!! Looooooove it!!!! Can’t wait to hear her new stuff!!!

  44. LoveMuffin

Goapele! Her hair is beautiful! Glad to see she is coming back. “Closer” still is my jam!!

  45. mememe

I tend to agree with sponsor, and no its not hateration. She’s decent, but I think her appearance is the main draw for a lot of people (much like beyonce, again, no hateration…)… if she didnt look the way she did I dont believe she would be getting as much love… not saying her looks is all she has to offer to the universe… I just dont think she’s the greatest singer.

  46. MoniMoni

YES!!! Another big fan here, but from NYC. Her first CD was the SHYT!!

Romantic, Closer, and my favorite CATCH 22

    …Dammed if I Don’t Dammed if I Do…

I gotta go play that right now! Welcome back Goapele!

  47. Howard Girl

I’ve been lovin Goapele every since high school!! Bay area!!

  48. Cynthinia

    I love Goapele!!!

Such soothing music…and the music industry will continue to fail as long as they limit our musical choices and shut out high quality artists like Goapele, Lina and others…I hope Laura Izibor does well too!

I saw Goapele perform twice and she never disappoints…she’s pretty awesome and quite at home on stage!!!

Go Goapele…as our consciousness rise above mediocrity…more lives will be enriched!!!

But, it’s so much better for the ” money changers” to keep us distracted with empty lyrics and pointless hook stories.

  49. jfortyjforty

She is awesome and her braids in the pic are fire!!!

  50. Pess

@43 In fact, I think these artists get more recognition in Europe than in the USA. All in all, they’re promoting their music mostly in America, but still they’re not so much appreciate there! In Europe you have to search really hard to listen their albums, yet they manage to have some fans here!

Goapele is one the best and I don’t care how she looks, because her music speak for itself!!! I’m glad she’s not another Beyonce, Rihanna, Ciara… this is REAL music, no gimmicks here.

And to Mememe and Sponsor – you’re so WRONG with your opinions!!!

  51. Nthabiseng

Goapele- is South African she was born here and then moved to the US, her name means – Going forward…and it couldn’t have been more accurate than that. she is highly talented and she has been doing so many gig in the Bay Area out there and South African are really proud and support her all the way.

Re go lakalesta ma tlhohonolo ngwaneso…madume!!

  52. “Closer” is one of my favorite songs EVER

  53. Dude-N-H-Town

Well….my roommate in college loved her…we use to have so many debates over her and my fave singer…..IMO, she’s dope. But her voice is not that great. beautiful girl tho

  54. Freemama

I don’t care what you call it–it is HATE Juice (#32)!! WHY??? Because it is HER sound-not ours to choose for her!! If these cat-meow sounding model wannabes can get a record deal and screech their way through a song, then let a REAL singer do her thing. Vocal lessons are fine, but what about a raw, unrehearsed, authentic voice-there is room for all!! Stop trying to disguise the HATE!

  55. Jenniferlynn

OMG! HER MUSIC IS LIKE FOOD FOR THE SOUL! I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

  56. Katz

I totally agree with Sponser…. I LOVE all music, but if an artist ( just because she has a great style) is singing off pitch on a album she doesn’t get kudos because shes raw and unrehearsed. She may need to start rehearsing and get some studio time. I agree that the “model wanna-be’s” (if they can’t sing) are hording and completly underminding the art of music but if an artist can sing and makes no effort to improve their craft and continues to be off pitch on an album then they are NO diffrent. It is for that reason I no longer listen to Mariah Carey ( great voice but pitch and tone is off alot).
