MUSIC NEWS: GOAPELE WORKING ON NEW ALBUM + SNIPPET OF NEW SONG

I’m excited to announce that Oakland based singer, Goapele is currently working on a brand new album. This release will be a follow up to her 2005 album, Change It All.

The songstress, who is best known for her song, “Closer,” recently released a new song snippet via her official site. Below is a sneak peak of the song entitled, “MILK + HONEY.”

Make sure you stay locked to CL, for more info on Goapele and her new project! I’m so excited to hear more music from her.

I love Goapele’s music. Her music remind me of Alicia Keys, but with a jazzy feel mixed with soul to it. For the guy who asked this earlier her name is pronounced Gwah-Play. And for anyone that know little about her music, listen to Closer, Salvation, Childhood Drama, Crushed Out, Too Much the Same, Butterfly Kisses and Don’t Be Shy. Personally I think that’s her best work. I didn’t know her three weeks ago until I heard a remixed version by JoJo Pellegrino. Check that out too if you’re into Hip Hop.

OMG! I can’t believe people are actually saying Goapele can’t sing? There is nothing wrong with her “pitch and tone”. That’s crazy, and spoken like people who know nothing about voice, or music. Just go to Youtube and check her out. And anyone who has seen her in person knowns she can blow! She’s one of the few artist still out there who actually can sing well. Hopefully with this new album she’ll get more exposure.

Actually….I’ve seen her perform. Live. and like I said – her pitch and tone is a tad off. I didn’t say “don’t buy her album”. I DID say I like her. I offered what rational adults call “an opinion”, which was based on observation. As one who comes from a family of singers, having bought and combed through thousands of records, tapes, CDs, mp3s etc over the last 30+ years, growing up on quality soul, roots reggae, rock, jazz, gospel, ska, neo-soul, country and nearly every other genre in between – i know pitch and i know tone. And i adjust for natural speaking voice, afflications, country of origin/first speaking language etc.

And as wonderful as Goapele is – she is not perfect. What I call an imperfection, others label “unique”. But it is there. If you can’t hear it, it means only one thing – you too are tone deaf and unable to catch pitch. But we love you nonetheless. And if your backside is as pretty as Goapele, you too can make the tongues wag. (ok, that was too much, but I couldnt resist)

Black ppl – don’t try to take away from one another our most precious gift – our right to state our opinion. Its not called hating. Its called communicating.

Didn’t Goapele attend the prestigious Berkeley school of music? I don’t’ believe that school accepts people who sing off key, LOL.
