Police officers had to Taser, handcuff and send former New Jersey Nets player Jayson Williams to a hospital for psychological evaluation.
Police were called to Williams’ hotel room in lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City around 4 a.m. when a female friend reported the former NBA player was acting suicidal. Police said Williams appeared drunk, agitated, and there were empty bottles of prescription drugs and several suicide notes scattered around the suite.
According to TMZ, Williams’ attorney, Joe Hayden, says he “has no knowledge of a suicide attempt” and that Williams has not been arrested and is at St. Vincent’s Hospital for a “medical condition”. He will be staying overnight for observation.
Williams was convicted in 2004 of trying to cover up the shooting death of his hired driver Costas “Gus” Christofi at his mansion in Alexandria Township, New Jersey, in February 2002. He was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter, but the jury deadlocked on a reckless manslaughter count. A retrial is pending and he has been free on bail since the shooting.
His wife filed divorce papers this year claiming he was abusive, adulterous and had a drug problem. Hope you get the help you need, Jayson; we don’t need another statistic.

Yes he definitely needs help..The suicide rates are on the rise in black males… I know he has been dealing with a slue of events over the years but he can’t let that be the end-all be-all, there are definitely other outlets.. Pray for this brother..

I really feel bad that things have gone so poorly for him. I remember how arrogant he used to be and it just seems that everything is falling apart. I just hope he gets the help that he needs.

this is just karma bitting him all up in the ass. over the years his true colors came out. we all were fooled into thinking he as upstanding guy because he adopted some kids. sorry that the man tried to kill himself and he does need help. but he should of thought about that before he killed his limo driver and his wife put him on blast. so yes he needs professional help and jesus. this is a whole different ballgame. when you do less than good things to people, it comes back in the end. we all have to be careful in what we do in life. i know some of are like dang but hey it is what it is.

I truly think it is just that he is having a mental break down due to the combination of the pressure of legal aspect of things, being seen negativeiyl in the public eye, and having to deal with that fact that he is responsible for taking a life. He is probably haunted at night by the images of the guy. It is amazing how the mind and heart will convict you.

Wow, this is really sad. I hope he gets himself together, I can see how all of those things can be really hard on someone. If you killed that man then deal with your actions but if not then try to keep the faith that it will get better. Drugs and Drinking make bad situations worse.
He just needs to talk to somebody. That’s what a lot of these kind of people need. . . The sad part is a lot of people who do this have no one to turn to.

I agree. If a negro male kills himself it is because he is not getting the love from the masses. This is why this suicide rate is skyrocketing. The black man wants love and acceptance from his enemies. Black men are not supposed to be loved and cannot be loved until they stop being subservient. I’m not speaking of the young black boys who took their lives as mentioned on J.Dakar’s post. That is a whole other issue. The hierarchy has been set up by the enemy. Why would one expect love from the enemy other than the false love that those who sellout receive. I remember when Jayson Williams was on the Nets and as an NBA analyst; the nigga was always clowning, cooning, and overdoing everything on that “life of the party” spirit. Yeah, but on the other hand if a Black man kills himself because he is “not getting love from the masses,” he is, in my mind, a weak @$$ n!99er….plain and simple. Look, Jesus Christ, whom many believed to be the greatest man to have walked the face of this earth, was also detested by the masses; and they hated him so much that they crucified him. So what if people do not like you? As long as the love is coming from home base that’s all that matters. Mankind is the wickedest creature God has ever created. Who cares what people think, especially those you have never met and don’t know you from a can of paint? You cannot control other people’s emotions; people will literally hate you for myriads of reasons: jealousy, envy, greed, covetousness etc. That is the problem with this society; it’s just a huge popularity contest, which has sissified our young men. Everyone wants to be loved by people who are not significant to their lives. I could not careless, who out there in streets like or do not like me. The only thing that matters to me is my family’s well being and as long as there’s breath in my lungs that’s all I will care about. And after the breath leaves my body they can bury face down so all the haters can kiss my @$$.

I agree. The mind is nothing to mess with. People do not take mental illness seriously until its too late. It should be common practice (like going to the doctor and getting a physical or annual checkup), to get the mind checked out as well, because not all the time can people handle everything that is coming at them. Its better to get help sooner than later.
