WHITE HOUSE: THE OBAMA FAMILY INTRODUCES BO, THE FIRST DOG
First lady Michelle Obama walks the family’s new Portuguese water dog Bo, followed by U.S. President Barack Obama and their daughters, Malia and Sasha during the dog’s introduction to the White House press corps at the South Lawn of the White House Tuesday, April 14th in Washington, DC.
The six-month-old puppy is a gift from Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) who owns several Portuguese water dogs himself. This breed of dog is considered a good pet for children who have allergies, as Malia does.

Lord knows I do… I love the way Michelle and Barack can communicate with regular folks as well as other world leaders without a sexon thought and I love their confidence and style. The love that everyone can see that is between them and their kids is awesomely beautiful. BUT. At the same time. President Obama is the leader of the free world and although I udnerstand they want everyone to feel as if they are regular folks like us… I CAN NOT STAND THE FACT THAT THOSE KIDS DRESS LIKE THAT! I mean come on! Please comb those babies hair and have them wearing clothes that match and don’t look like they were purchased at the local Wal-Mart! The Obama’s are no longer regular citizens. Wow, what a blatant grab for attention. Obama looks like a stiff in that suit and Michelle looks uncomfortably walking that dog. Speaking of the dog, why would they accept something so big? Little girls aren’t into big dogs and would had perfered a pup to begin with. Oh, well its not like they’ll have to feed it or walk it unless mom and dad feel like getting some attention(from the media) on the sly.

yeah a 6 mnth year old is still a puppy. I got my dog when he was six mnths and he was the same size as Bo. It just depends on the breed.

Those little girls are too cute. @ NYCGURL, what do you want them in? A Baby Phat outfit? What they have on is age appropriate and trendy for children their age. Maybe the girls dressed themselves, thats what kids should do. I think Michelle and Barack are doing an excellent job of keeping their children grounded and giving them a “normal” upbringing inspite of them growing up in a very public environment. I’m glad the girls got their dog.

Honestly NYCGurl – the fact that they are outside playing with a dog does not mean that they have to look like they just stepped out of a spread for Parenting magazine. I applaud the fact that they do keep it real at all times. If you live in NY (and are black) you should damn well know that if it is misty/rainy nasty outside, no amount of hair combing (or relaxer) is going to keep your hair in place. The weather here in DC has not been a black womans best friend over the last couple of days. And keeping really real, unless you would like for them to try to be white, it is what it is; african american hair is not always weather friendly. Further more who sends their chlidren outside in nasty weather to play with a dog with really nice clothes on. I sure as hell don’t and I have two boys. But best believe that when it is time to go somewhere nice everyone is represented very well! I would like to see what your closet looks like! People in glass houses should not throw stones!

Folks are trippin! I know I don’t look like I stepped off the runway everytime I step out of the house. What makes the Obama family any different? Being the first family doesn’t mean you have to be fierce all the time. They were playing with a dog. I don’t think anyone puts on their Sunday best to play with the dog! Everyone looks fine to me.

I decided to do some reading about the dog’s breed. They can be very difficult to deal with in terms of their love of ALL water, their need to shred things, and their ability to turn on faucets!
