Actor Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta Washington attend the 6th annual Family Gifted Scholars in Neuroscience Awards at Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. Middle School on Wednesday in Los Angeles, California. Actress Jurnee Smollett and actor Roger Guenveur Smith also attended the event.
The Annual Pauletta and Denzel Washington Family Gifted Scholars in Neuroscience Awards was established in 2004 to support and encourage students to pursue a career in neuroscience. It provides $2,500 monthly support for graduate-level research and $2,000 per month for an undergraduate.
Recipients this year included: Wes Phillips, Marcus Gates, and Marisa Riley (all pictured in that order below).

whoa, this is a really good scholarship program! i had no idea that it existed. congrats to the recipients. it’s great to see young people receiving support to achieve their goals. no comment on denzel….hopefully it is dental work!
That is an excellent scholarship program. I think it is wonderful to see Denzel and Paula giving back to their own; not just for any ol’ run of the mill reason, but for hard work and academic achievment. I feel… proud.
By the way… it appears that SOMEbody pissed Denzel off before these pictures were taken. Man! He looks stern, angry, and uninterested.
Its a blessing for those who have the money to give and choose to give back to help those less fortunate. I applaud Denzel and Paulette. His expression or anything negative about either of them should honestly not even be up for discussion in my opinion. I applaud them!

Denzel is an artist. Artists sometimes do things that we don’t find normal – like pose for happy pictures with a serious face. But that doesn’t matter – at all!!! What matters is that (1) he gives more in philantrophy than 99% of all other Black people in the USA, and (2) he keeps putting out GREAT movies that you take your boo to see on Friday nights, and (3) that his wife loves him and he’s a great father.

Marcus Gates is a First year medical at Meharry Medical College in Nashville and is still JUST GRADUATED FROM FISK UNIVERISTY THIS MONTH. He did his senior year of undergrad and his first year of med school concurrently and is currently #1 in his medical school class. Look out for him!!!!!!!!
