Some of you may remember our post from earlier this year speaking about the film; now with the backing of Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry the movie will open in theaters nationwide later this year.

  1. LULU

I think they should’ve kept it as ‘Push’ even though they mentioned something about the movie ‘Push’ that came out earlier this year possibly confusing people, I don’t see how it could.

  2. MAI03

This movie looks so damn good! I hear that Monique is phenominal in this film. I cant wait to see it.

  3. blackandmild

I don’t think I can watch this in the theater. This is just too much. Wish I could support it though.

  4. Dree

This character reminds me of a lot of girls I know, including my self, as a kid I wanted to be famous, with a hot boyfriend lol. I’m not banging my mom she was nothing like Precious’s mamma, but my mom was a bit negative, she the reason why i didn’t even attempt to apply for Baltimore School of the Arts, when i was younger she told me I wouldn’t get in, we have to be careful of what we tell our kids, sometimes we don’t realize we put them down.

  5. Q.T. Pie

This movie is going to be GREAT. I can’t wait to see it. I will be there opening night.

  6. CHLOE

THIS MOVIE LOOKS SOOOOOOO OSCAR WORTHY. IF DONT NOBODY IN THIS MOVIE WIN AN OSCAR ITLL PROVE MY THEORY THAT BLK PPL HAVE TO EITHER GET NAKED OR GET UGLY IN A MOVIE TO WIN A DAMN OSCAR

  7. Vee1

This looks so good, Mo’nique is really stepping out the box playing a character like this. The trailer bought me to tears, so I already know how it’s going to be in theaters. I thought that was Mariah Carey, but I wasn’t sure she looks really different, and I guess the last time I saw her in a film was that flop Glitter. Good to see her in real role.

  8. MRSJONES3

what the hell, i actually dropped a couple of tear because of the preview!!! I have to go see this as soon as it is released!

  9. bambino

where is the movie of the coldest winter ever lauren london needs to be in the lead role for that

  10. insista

yaaaaaaaaay! I had no idea this was coming to theaters, cannot wait to see it!

  11. OH TYLER PERRY AND OPRAH WINFREY PRESENTING THIS? I AM THERE, FRONT AND CENTER!

  12. J. Peezy

Can we say Oscars all around??

  13. Jace

WOW. This is going to be great. The book was so good..Monique kills this role. She’s amazing in it!!

  14. Mickey

I have read this book twice since it came out in 97 and I love it. Very excited about the movie although I still dont think that Paula Patton should play Blu Rain who was the one dark skinned person that made Precious love her skin color. But whatever…it will still be an amazing movie.

  15. Jennifer

I know this is only a 2-minute clip Mo’Nique better win an Oscar for that performance!!! It’s too REAL!!!

  16. preciousdiamond

Definitely will have to check this movie out and tell my neice about it! Vee1 and mrsjones3–me too(almost got teary eyed), I thought about my neice who my mother always puts down because of her size.

  17. Dude-N-H-Town

Yeah I will def be going to see this…but its looks sooooooooooooooo dramatic. Maybe a little too dramatic…but i gotta support my people. And I heard the novel was pretty good.

  18. Philly

This really looks like a must see. The book was good and I hope they do it justice. I be supporting this!

  19. I’ve been waiting for this movie to release. Has anyone read the book?

  20. Sylvia aka Sweet

I remember the post from earlier in the year here when it was posted and wished even then that this movie would viewed in the regular theaters. Now, it will we just need an official release date! This movie is really going to open so many peoples eyes to what is going on around them and especially parents will see what us young people go through and how they treat us and what they say to us affects us more than anything. Hopefully this movie will have a very powerful effect on people in a positive way and by the looks of it,it already has just by the trailer alone. This trailer alone brought me to tears. This is a must see movie , Can’t wait to see this gem of a film and this is an REAL Oscar worthy film, no doubt.

  21. ***SUGASWEET***

I read the book…. EXCELLENT!!!! Mo’nique play the description of the mother perfectly. Her mom was a real B****, and nasty ass hell. I know it took Mo’nique a lot to get thru this role, especially if she read the book first. This is a very gripping story, and I hope the movie does the book justice. I def agree that putting this out will introduce the world to all the inside drama and abuse that some kids suffer from.

Big ups to Oprah and Tyler Perry for backing this project. it needs to be in view for all to learn from.

  22. Chrystal

This was a great book with an awesome message. Sad that there are boys and girls that suffer this abuse daily. Lord help. Can’t wait to see the movie.

  23. hood_shit

OMG! Mo’Nique and Gabby are killin it!!!!! I pray that the Academy shows them love…. WOW!

  24. la_verite

Will definitely be seeing this one.

  25. RANA-SXYLDY

Hi #20. I read the book and it was very good. I read it a couple of years back but I still remember it! I enjoyed the book enough to be excited about the movie.

  26. Acire30

This clip made me cry! I don’t know if I could sit in a theater and watch this, but I’m gonna try.

  27. 1*STEP*AHEAD

I SAW A CLIP OF THIS MOVIE ON OPRAH THE OTHER DAY WHEN MONIQUE WAS ON. IT LOOKS REALLY GOOD!
STOP ALL THE IT’S TOO DRAMATIC, IT’S TOO MUCH BS. JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE IT THEN MAKE A COMMENT. GEESH! EVERYBODY’S A CRITIC.

  28. Dizzy Guy

I have to see this at home because I won’t be able to stand it in the movie theater.

  29. Dia

Wow, that’s all I can say. I have seen the previews for this movie twice and everytime I start to tear up. It looks really good and even though I don’t think that I can stomach the realness of this girl’s life, I know that I have to go and support. So that more little black girls can great roles like the one of Precious. Unfortunately though I doubt that any of them will win an Oscar. I think that the Academy is getting more open minded but they’re not quite there yet.

  30. Sierra B.

I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THIS COMES OUT!!!! I’ve been jonesing for it since it hit the Sundance Festival. It looks so good; the preview had me tearing up!! #14-I think that unfair that would jeopardize the story line by putting a light skinned actress in that part. Tichina Arnold or Gabrielle Union would have been good choices as well. Anywho so need a release date!!

  31. DOPENESS

Yes! Been waiting for this movie. Looks goooood!

  32. ImJustSayn

i’m glad i wsnt the only 1 who cried over the trailer! the book ws great and i’m glad they made it a movie! i to have been waiting on the movie for Coldest Winter Ever but idk bout Lauren London playn Winter but i thought Jada was suppose to b putn that out anywho, i’m glad to see Mariah doing her thing i didnt even recognize her so she musta took some acting lessons(something Bey needs to do!) Monique and the new comer look like they did great as well

  33. BAD BAD BITCH

i cried over the book, so i know i’ll cry when i see the actually film lmao!! i cant wait till its released. it looks phenomenal.

  34. KiiDSWiiPER

i dont think i can read or watch something this graphic

  35. Naphtali

    Amazing………….. I cant wait for this….

We have actors that most ppl would never cast for such roles… Mariah and Mo’nique doign these serious roles?….Amazing!

  36. Cold as Fire Baby Hott as Ice

i cannot wait to cry my eyes out when i see this film! lol- the trailer had be crying like a baby, if i get through the whole film it would probably be a miracle.

The acting looks fantastic, I hope it gets an oscar

  37. rOcCo.

@Mickey, I agree with you. This is not the Ms. Rain I envisioned. If I recall correctly, she had locks…I’m not at all surprised that the novel had to go through so many changes in order get the academy’s attention. I appreciate Sapphire’s piece for what it is, but I think it’s time that we, people of color, be portrayed in a better light.

  38. ashleighTDOT

omg i cried. definetly seeing this movie. the characters did their thing. the girl who plays precious touched me…i see so much of me and my friends in her. and thats only from the preview.

oh and mariah actually looks good in this film. looks like glitter aint holding her back…

    *tearing up*

  39. Nothing But Love

I read the book earlier on this year and my gawwd the book is amazing!!!! This film looks sooo good i cant wait to see it. I just know its gonna do well especially if Tyler Perry and Oprah are behind it, and Mariah really did her thing in this movie she should be proud of herself shes barely recognisable in this film.

  40. I hear good things. I’m looking forward to see this movie!

  41. mzc2u

This movie looks interesting, but I think they should’ve left somethings out of the preview, it seems so steorotypical and overweight, teen-age black girl that is a single mother on welfare that is being abused, they left nothing to wonder about in that trailer.

  42. 61

@8,27,30,31 yes i cry with you too. I can not wait to see this movie. They saying monique probably up for na oscar and mariah carey. But im going to wait a couple of weeks. Because u know they going to get ghetto all up on the movie theatres lol. You know we is not going to like monique in this movie lol.

  43. Nicollotta

At a time when the entertainment industry is riddled with absolute ridiculousness something of quality is actually released… I’m so proud of Lionsgate for funding so many black films and thank God for Oprah for her influence. I read this book YEARS ago when I was like 16 or something and I was so touched by it. Mariah’s performance looks award-winning. I’m very proud of her for pursuing acting.

  44. Lauren

I am so happy this movie is being released! I finished reading this book a few months ago….powerful story. I’m also excited to see Mo’nique in such a dramatic role.

  45. lisa

Mariah and Monique: we are so PROUD of you. Black women continue to push On. The movie looks Incredible. They say these lyrics go to the theme song of the movie. Incredible. Lord bless them

I WISH YOU WELL (lyrics by Mariah Carey)

This goes out to you and you and you
    You know who you are

    Hmm hmm hmm
When glory days turn to stormy nights
You must have been so petrified
Didn’t you, didn’t you feel so cold
You against the world in a losing fight
    Captive of your demons inside

    So you sought an enemy
(I’m not your enemy. He lives in you, you know it’s true)
Like times before to mock ignorantly
(But the Lord said love, love your enemy so just…)
Take heed to the Word it’s time
    Check Proverbs 19:29
    Don’t cry

    I wish you well
    I wish you well
    I wish you well

    I truly wanted solidarity
Still wearing my blinders back then
    (So much I didn’t see)
I weep for what I dreamed we all could be
I’ll keep you in prayer till the end

Still bruised, still walk on eggshells
Same frightened child, hide to protect myself
(Can’t believe I still need to protect myself from you)
But you can’t manipulate me like before
Examine first John chapter 4 verse 4

    And
    I wish you well
    I wish you well
    I wish you well

Be strong in the Lord and power of His might

If my shows of gratitude are miniscule
    Inside your mind, sorry
(I’m so sorry, please forgive me)
There’s only so much I can do I love you and did all that I could

    Maybe when you’re cursing me
    You don’t feel so incomplete
    But we’ve all made mistakes
    Felt the guilt and self-hate

I know you’ve been there for me plenty
Maybe still got love for me
But let him without sin cast the first stone brethren
    But who remains standing then
Not you not I see Phillipians 4:9
(Put it into practice and the God of Peace will be with you)

    So
    I wish you well
    I wish you well
    I wish you well

(He who the Son sets free is free indeed)
No weapon formed against me shall prosper
    Surely God is my salvation
I will trust and not be afraid
The Lord, the Lord is my salvation
    I will trust in Him
Yes, I know that I know that I know that I know

But I have had God’s help to this very day
And so I stand here and testify
    To small and great alike
So the more you curse me
    The more you’re blessing me
    The Word said it
    Love your enemies

Do good to those who curse you
Pray for those who mistreat you
    Psalms 129:2
They have greatly oppressed me from my youth
But they have not gained victory over me
    (In Jesus’ name)

    I wish you well

He that keeps his mind state on the Lord
He will keep them in perfect peace

monqiue, paula (patton robin thick’s wife) and mariah all look incredible. not sure who that main star is but she’s incredible.

    monique and mariah need OSCARS

  48. HA!

@#8 (Ms. Jones) – I was sitting up here crying too. LOL!

  49. taya11413

i’ve read the book push and i loved it but i can see from the preview that they are not taking the movie as far as he book. I guess thats why it is based on the book. If you haven’t read the book don’t read it until after you see the movie because it touches on so much more in depth things then this movie will. It really gets down to the nitty gritty and I wish the would just give it a R rating and do the novel the justice that it deserves because it was the first book I read and one of my favorites today

  50. Imani B.

WOW EVERYBODY PLEASE SUPPORT THIS WHEN IT COMES OUT … SO WE CAN GIVE THESE STUDIOS A REASON TO PUT OUT GOOD DRAMA’S FEAT. BLACK PEOPLE!!! LETS GIVE THEM A MESSAGE THAT THESE MOVIES CAN WORK!

im sorry that line caught me off guard. LOL. still imma see this movie…

*shakes head at the girl who said her favourite color was fluorescent beige*

  57. WAKE UP

Thats the kind of movie you just cant stop havin pity and u just cry, I know this is goin to make me cry, just look at this video my heart couldnt take it cuz I know how mean ppl are in life, in your school or wherever, even in your family which is worse cuz they aresupposed to be the only ppl who will be there for you supportin you no matter what, there is always someone to put you down and you finally become a low self esteem person, OMG, why is the world so mean? How can someone treat a child like this? Her own child? IGNORANCE, anyway, I know that Mariah was good as well, Gabby Sidibé’s face expresses all the sadness the role needed, I feel so sorry for Precious in the movie already.

The ppl who read the book, who is the father of her children?

  58. Nothing But Love

    #58

    Her Father… :(

  59. cOoKiE
