A while ago, Beyonce announced that she would release a video anthology for her latest album, I Am… Sasha Fierce. After the promo blitz that she’s been on for the last couple of weeks for the release of her movie, Obsessed, our good friends at Beyonce World have announced that Beyonce will release her video anthology and and re-release a deluxe edition of the LP exclusively to Wal-Mart on June 16th.
In addition to the re-release and video anthology, Beyonce has serviced “Ego” (as well as the remix, featuring Kanye West) to radio, with an impact date of May 19th, while she’s pulled “Broken-Hearted Girl” and will add the Euro-pop hit, “Sweet Dreams” to radio on June 2nd.
ASHANTI DROPPED FROM THE INK
Seems as though Ashanti is getting dropped from her home label of the past eight years. Irv Gotti, who just started the second season of his reality show on VH1, sat down with MTV and announced that she will be dropped in the near future.
“The relationship has run its course,” Gotti explained earlier this week while visiting the MTV offices. “The chemistry of what’s needed — we’re in two totally different places. You’re talking to somebody that took her and shaped and molded her and put her out there for the world, and it blew up.”
“We hold the record for the fastest selling debut by a female R&B artist. We did it! My views and philosophies and her views and philosophies are not meeting up.”
Ashanti’s last album, The Declaration came out in June of last year on the Inc. and was created with virtually no input from Gotti. It was her first album in four years and was the first in-studio project not to go platinum. Gotti says it’s because the singer deviated from their winning formula and tag-team effort.
Irv also added:
“We don’t really speak or talk or anything like that,” he continued. “It’s sad in a way. But in another, it’s like it’s all good.”
“I don’t think she can win. She needs some guidance with that,” Gotti added. “But she’s not thinking like that. Really, I couldn’t tell you what she’s thinking. So that relationship has run its course and honestly, I’m gonna just drop her.”
Gotti told MTV News that he’s maintained the rights to all of his artists, including Ashanti, Lloyd and of course Ja Rule. The executive says he’s working on a deal to reunite with his fellow Def Jam alumni Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles and Julie Greenwald over at the Warner Music Group. He says new albums by Lloyd, new rapper Newz and Rule are in the works.
KELLY ROWLAND SPEAKS
Kelly Rowland sat down with MTV Lithuania to talk about the promotion of her new record, “When Love Takes Over,” with David Guetta. She also gave us a little taste of what she was doing with the new direction for this album. Kelly mentions that over the next couple of months, she will be in the studio, working on new material.
I’m sure Kelly felt a little slighted at the end of the video when the correspondent tried to slide in some questions about Beyonce. In any event, Kelly menitions that her new album is due out sometime later this year, and also let’s us in on what the other former Destiny’s Child bandmates are up to.
JANET HITS THE STUDIO
It seems as though since signing with Def Jam, Janet Jackons has had some problems with her last couple albums. 20 Y.O. and Discipline failed to gain any real success in comparison to any other of her albums, and there was huge controversy over her Rock Witchu tour last year.
But it seems that Janet is going back to the drawing board… or is she going back to the original model? It’s been reported that she has been back into the studio with long-time collaborators and friends, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They have been the forces behind some of Janet’s biggest hits, so this could be a good thing. Janet has yet to title the new album, but we are expected to hear some new material from her this fall.

I’m not a big Gotti fan. but he is pretty much telling the truth. Ashanti had a gimmick behind her which made her so successful. Her gimmick was being the princess of a bunch of “hard-core” guys. and people ate that up. When murder inc started becoming wack and she felt she didnt need them anymore her music suffered IMO. When your career is based on a gimmick and not talent that is usually what happens.
Not so excited about the Video Anthology. Her videos havent really wowed me like Single ladies. but thats ok I will still be there in full effect to see her on June 27th!!!

Ashanti-She clearly wanted to leave anyway. The interludes on the beginning and the end of The Declaration that were subliminal stabs at Irv. So she got what she wanted. She’s not really a good vocalist, but I will admit to liking her work. Good luck to her finding a new label home.
Janet- Love her! I’t's cool she’s going back to her winning formula producers. Although some people have written her off, she still has it musically to me, but her problem is her subject matter and poor single choices. It’s becoming a little too predictable. She’s got to get back to being more versatile during the Rhythm Nation, Janet and Velvet Rope era and I think she’ll do fine this time around. And people calling her a flop please she’s accomplished a lot in career so what how quick fickle people forget, some people wish they could call going gold a flop, especially in this recession era. It’s very hard to sell records now, gold might as well be called the new plat lol.
Kelly-I’m rooting for her as well. I like her new record with David Guetta. I’m predicting she’ll do a more international sound this time around with the upcoming album. Can’t say that I blame her with the support she gets here, and I know she’s got be tired of answering questions about Beyonce *sigh* SMH. It’s sad where Ashanti is concerned because that album that came out last year was probably her best that she’s dropped since she’s been out. Irv need to sit down talking about the formula. There was no formula, no direction with any of her prior albums. That Declaration album was what a real album should sound like. Hopefully she can regroup and step back into the limelight musically.
As for Janet, about time. Lord knows in all honesty All For You was her last commercially successful album, and Damita Jo, which was highly underrated and heavy on the R&B-a first for her-was overshadowed by the Super Bowl incident and didn’t stand a chance. Letting Jermaine Executive Produce the last two albums turned out to be nothing but failures in the end (although Discipline actually had some tracks that weren’t given a chance to shine). I hope for the best, but I really wonder if she can come back from the mis-steps. She already disillusioned her fans here in the states and abroad when she, or LiveNation I should say, chopped all those shows due to poor performing ticket sales.

Kelly actually looks really happy and this new sound is soo much better! I think if she followed the dance route she’d become a huge star especially in Europe. I didn’t even know she could sing and perform like that; all she needed was a good producer and switch genres and her talent is now shining.
Her interviewing skills are also sooo much better; she’s actually constantly referring questions about Beyonce back to herself which is exactly what she should have done from the start. Seems like she has a lot more self-belief and confidence now and thats gonna boost her career

As for Irv, his company started to come down when 50 put him on blast…that in effect ruined a lot of things for all the artists on his label…so I can’t blame this on poor record sales…most of this dealt with poor marketing(it’s not like it used to be when they were with Def Jam)
I’m sure Ashanti is not losing any sleep over this break-up…she basically stated that in her last album. She’s already working in the studio with other artists and she has her own label (Written Entertainment), so she’ll do fine.
As for Kelly, I’m glad she’s grounded. It may have taken her a while to grow a backbone but I’m glad she showed her independence. Sometimes you just got to take risks.
As for Janet, I’ll have to wait to see the material she’ll have for us in her next album.
