A while ago, Beyonce announced that she would release a video anthology for her latest album, I Am… Sasha Fierce. After the promo blitz that she’s been on for the last couple of weeks for the release of her movie, Obsessed, our good friends at Beyonce World have announced that Beyonce will release her video anthology and and re-release a deluxe edition of the LP exclusively to Wal-Mart on June 16th.
In addition to the re-release and video anthology, Beyonce has serviced “Ego” (as well as the remix, featuring Kanye West) to radio, with an impact date of May 19th, while she’s pulled “Broken-Hearted Girl” and will add the Euro-pop hit, “Sweet Dreams” to radio on June 2nd.
ASHANTI DROPPED FROM THE INK
Seems as though Ashanti is getting dropped from her home label of the past eight years. Irv Gotti, who just started the second season of his reality show on VH1, sat down with MTV and announced that she will be dropped in the near future.
“The relationship has run its course,” Gotti explained earlier this week while visiting the MTV offices. “The chemistry of what’s needed — we’re in two totally different places. You’re talking to somebody that took her and shaped and molded her and put her out there for the world, and it blew up.”
“We hold the record for the fastest selling debut by a female R&B artist. We did it! My views and philosophies and her views and philosophies are not meeting up.”
Ashanti’s last album, The Declaration came out in June of last year on the Inc. and was created with virtually no input from Gotti. It was her first album in four years and was the first in-studio project not to go platinum. Gotti says it’s because the singer deviated from their winning formula and tag-team effort.
Irv also added:
“We don’t really speak or talk or anything like that,” he continued. “It’s sad in a way. But in another, it’s like it’s all good.”
“I don’t think she can win. She needs some guidance with that,” Gotti added. “But she’s not thinking like that. Really, I couldn’t tell you what she’s thinking. So that relationship has run its course and honestly, I’m gonna just drop her.”
Gotti told MTV News that he’s maintained the rights to all of his artists, including Ashanti, Lloyd and of course Ja Rule. The executive says he’s working on a deal to reunite with his fellow Def Jam alumni Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles and Julie Greenwald over at the Warner Music Group. He says new albums by Lloyd, new rapper Newz and Rule are in the works.
KELLY ROWLAND SPEAKS
Kelly Rowland sat down with MTV Lithuania to talk about the promotion of her new record, “When Love Takes Over,” with David Guetta. She also gave us a little taste of what she was doing with the new direction for this album. Kelly mentions that over the next couple of months, she will be in the studio, working on new material.
I’m sure Kelly felt a little slighted at the end of the video when the correspondent tried to slide in some questions about Beyonce. In any event, Kelly menitions that her new album is due out sometime later this year, and also let’s us in on what the other former Destiny’s Child bandmates are up to.
JANET HITS THE STUDIO
It seems as though since signing with Def Jam, Janet Jackons has had some problems with her last couple albums. 20 Y.O. and Discipline failed to gain any real success in comparison to any other of her albums, and there was huge controversy over her Rock Witchu tour last year.
But it seems that Janet is going back to the drawing board… or is she going back to the original model? It’s been reported that she has been back into the studio with long-time collaborators and friends, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They have been the forces behind some of Janet’s biggest hits, so this could be a good thing. Janet has yet to title the new album, but we are expected to hear some new material from her this fall.
Beyonce…been there done that…nothing new. I think she’s starting to see that her music is not played on the radio too often. I’m sorry but this was B’s worst album to date comparing to all her other albums(including Destiny’s Child)
As for Irv, his company started to come down when 50 put him on blast…that in effect ruined a lot of things for all the artists on his label…so I can’t blame this on poor record sales…most of this dealt with poor marketing(it’s not like it used to be when they were with Def Jam)
I’m sure Ashanti is not losing any sleep over this break-up…she basically stated that in her last album. She’s already working in the studio with other artists and she has her own label (Written Entertainment), so she’ll do fine.
As for Kelly, I’m glad she’s grounded. It may have taken her a while to grow a backbone but I’m glad she showed her independence. Sometimes you just got to take risks.
As for Janet, I’ll have to wait to see the material she’ll have for us in her next album.

Pop Star Beyonce is Everywhere this girl can’t be stopped, so far she has the best selling album in 2009 the disc as already sold more then 5 million copies worldwide in 5 months , we have not seen this in 5 years. Love Kelly…she’ll do a great job…loved her new show on Bravo…it’s has heart and soul…that was the first episode. So what if she never sells a lot of records…develop a tight concert performance and you’ll always have fans, new music or not, chart topping or not…example…Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah, Rachelle Ferrell, Chante Moore, M. Nedegecello, Estelle, Jennifer Hudson, Lala Hathaway and others. Stop comparing singers to multiplatinum artists like Beyonce and Mariah. They are rare and have powerful marketing machines behind them. If both were browner skin women, not light skin, they probably wouldn’t have been as successful. Janet and Whitney came in with family names and connections. Anita Baker was just so off the charts, she was distinctive and undeniable. Kelly is positioned and poised for continued great success on her terms and by her own definition. That number one spot ain’t all of that…Diana Ross and others can tell you so!
As for Ashanti, it takes a lot of guts not to bow down and put aside your convictions. Fortunately, she’s pretty smart…she’s stayed in the media’s eye without having the same success she started out with. She’s a good aspiring actress and hopefully, has learned about the apparel industry and licensing from her boyfriend, Mr. Apple Bottoms. She’s likable and from her films have delivered a general market audience, which will make you some money. Since they don’t make that much from record labels, going indie is still profitable…this girl can come out with a line of lip gloss and it sell because of her good looks, name recognition and branding.
The record industry is designed for failure nowadays. If Sasha Fierce has sold only 3 to 4 million or more with all of its marketing power and clout, then what do we expect? Beyonce didn’t go diamond and she has every tool in the box. Kelly, Ashanti shouldn’t feel bad, music is too accessble and free for many. Artists are going to have to go back to basics…high quality music, great performance skills from small venues to arenas if they are to be lasting. Black people have to get away from looks to looking at talent. Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Avril, Miley Cyrus, Kathy Perry, Adele, Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse fans don’t care what they look like or which one is the hottest in the game, don’t put Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood as superior to other leading ladies of song. One of the reasons we won’t see a black american idol…we don’t buy and suppor tour artists the way we should.

Beyonce- I like her, but she’s overdoing it to me. I will not buy anything from her. I have all of her CD’s (hated the last one), I’ve been to her concerts, and I even support her clothing line (for god-child).I really hate how she kicked Kelly to the side when Kelly was the only one on her side during her ordeal with the previous DC. She should have the mentality when I shine my best friend is going to shine. Kelly should have been opening for her if she was a good friend. She has some good ballards. I love Kelly’s song Blaze.
Ashanti- Love her. She’s a great writer. I also think her last CD was great especially if you were going through things in a relationship. Everybody saying she doesn’t have a great voice, and she’s not a very strong singer. The reason I like her is because I listen to the lyrics. Some people may have a beautiful voice and isn’t saying anything worth listening too. Keep writing Ashanti. You have to be smart and talent to write good lyrics. Gotti treats is wife horrible. Great that Beyonce is using “Sweet Dreams” as a single. It is the best off of the short and gimmicked “Sasha Fierce.” It is actually surprising me that the SASHA FIERCE side is doing better that the “I AM.”( With the exception of “Halo.” ) Because “If I Were A Boy” was doing “ok,” but it became clear that “Single Ladies” was the star. I think I’ve heard SINGLE LADIES and DIVA more that IF I WERE A BOY and HALO combined.
Ashanti, well……………..I actually thought she been left the label. But I think it is about time she move on anyway. But Irv has some nerve sounding the way he did, it was basically one big DIS he gave to her. Very unprofessional the way he addressed her, and shows even further how nasty his ego is. No wonder why his label is crumbling. He won’t get anywhere with those new no-names he has going and he might as well live off VH1 now, because Ashanti was his last money maker. I honestly don’t believe he did much to promote the album because he was just plain lazy, or he couldn’t afford to on his broke label. Maybe Ashanti felt betrayed and for that reason, stopped communicating with him. Don’t blame her. I actually saw the fizzle shortly after CONCRETE ROSE back IN 05. I admit, I lost some interest in Ashanti after a while, but she deserved better. Irv is a loser with a “losing” establishment.
Does everyone realize that the industry is becoming so “sink-or-swim” these days? Some of the most high profile artists that were hot only 4-5 years ago are stumbling. I believe what is also a factor is some of these labels are hit hard by the economy as well, and because of that, they have to cut back on their promotion costs……………unless you are at the very top like Beyonce, Rihanna, T.I., or Kanye, then they will go the extra mile. Sometimes labels lose faith, and will just be lazy, despite how good the album may be. Very cut throat.
I’m so glad Janet is going back to the people who made her big in the first place. I wouldn’t recommend anyone signing with Def Jam, because last year alone they messed up with MC, LL Cool J, and Janet’s new albums, and these are 3 heavyweights here. Shame on Def Jam, all they care about is Rihanna and Jeezy. Janet will be just fine on a label like Geffen, Jive, or J Records. Now if only MJ can hook back up with Quincy and Whitney to hook back up with Clive.
As far as Kelly goes, I wish her the best of luck too. I’m glad she parted from the Knowles.
Why did Gotti drop her? She was the only one who sold records on that label, Ja Rule is a has been and Lloyd never comes through with solid numbers. Although Ashanti’s last album didn’t do so well, she had low promotion because her label aka Gotti was promoting it for her, but it was still a decent album. I look forward to hearing more music for her, she’s one of them artist you can say has matured over the years. I hope she has alot of success.

Ashanti been tryin to get away from the INC since the feds snatched Gotti’s azz. I think Inc artist Lloyd is great but I think that the negativity hangin over Gotti is holding Lloyd back because he is a great talent and a cutie pie. His ties to the Inc are holding his career back because the music biz is a tough nut to crack and once you get a negative rap especially with the feds you are shunned and ostracized. Didn’t Def Jam put the Inc’s azz out on da streets when the Feds started rollin up in there shakin down folks with their guns drawn. That’s when Ashanti jumped ship and Irv is still pissed behind that ish because he felt that he and Ja were behind Shanti’s success but when the chips were down she bailed.
They still have some good artists on the Inc it’s just that they have to contend with that black cloud over their heads. Lloyd may have to stop being so loyal to the Inc and break out on his own like Shanti.
