The actress’s skin is actually more brown cuz in the movie it was very dark.
She is going to make me cry with this movie cuz her face really expressed the sadness the role needed. I saw the trailer (too much pity in my heart for her) and I think we all need to take our courage, yes, cuz this kinda story is heart breakin lol, and go to the theaters, I mean, it’s better to support something which could be a real story and Im sure is a big problem in our families and entourage today than seein a fantastic film or another movie far from the reality, so I hope the best for this movie, the actors (even MC) killed it. The story needs to be told.

i too am looking forward to this film….
but i can’t front…one thing is urking me….
Paula Pattons character was initially described in the book as a brown skinned woman with locks….sorry to take it there but the issue of color kind of bothers me….this character was one of the few people who really loved Precious….and now all of the characters who ‘help’ or love her (social worker, hospital nurse) are portrayed by fairer skinned folk…..and those who perpetrate pain and hate on her (her mom, step dad & neighborhood kids) are dark in complexion….
i just don’t like the sub-concious message this sends….

I would suggest to those who haven’t yet done so… READ THE BOOK FIRST!!! Well thats if you can get hold of it, it took me ages to get my copy but i got it in the end and its worth reading it really is an amazing story.

Can’t see this movie, Tyler Perry has made me irritated with the whole message-dramatic-cry me a river- depression films that are now the genre for black cinema. Even though the sexiest man, Lenny (age is only a number) Kravitz is in it. I don’t have the time to feel bad about life. I got enough of that watching, Family That Preys, Diary and Family Reunion.

The lead actress is SO MUCH prettier than she looks in that movie! What a relief! I was so sure they’d done some open casting thing and picked what they thought was the most downtrodden, pathetic woman ever. She is SUCH a beautiful woman.
Monique’s absence is fishy and I’d bet tell-tale and though I hate to be negative, I saw the trailer and her acting is overrated. She’s overly emotional, she overacts like Beyonce. It ISNT believable.

My goodness, this movie is riveting. I’m scared of Mo-Nique myself! BTW, Mariah looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet at Cannes!! Go Mrs. Cannon!!!

@ #29 – Girl stop. If I don’t want to shave my legs for work, I don’t. But I work in an office with only 2 other females and mostly wear long pants. Now, if I was getting my pictures taken on red carpets and such…guess what? I’d have to suck it up. What you do while relaxed is your business, but at a public event. Puh-lease. Moniques legs look GROSS. Like Harry and the Hendersons. Just cause our skin is darker, don’t mean it all blends in… Yeah, my mama tried to pull that okey-doke on me when I first said I wanted to shave my legs in the 5th grade. Didn’t work.

Can’t wait to see the movie. I read Sapphire’s book years ago for a class, and I think this movie might possibly have struck the right notes, which is hard to do with such a powerful story and dark subject matter. Sorry for the xtra long post

I agree, that’s such a sad, sad thing……The portraying of who the casting director chose for the roles in this movie. Hell I know Alfre Woodard could have looked the part and damn sure acted it out, Nia Long, Regina King…hell, give a new and upcoming actress a shot…..
And it’s a sad sad thing that no one could take this girl shopping?! I know she’s African and all and may want to stay with her roots and culture, but there are a lot of garments available to make her look just equally hollywood as Ms.Tinsletown (Queen LaLa Land herself), Mariah lol
And Damn Monique, you could have shown up to give that baby some support for the movie as another sister of a darker tone….lol
