♫ THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW ♫

May 9th, 2009

♫ Wyclef & Shakira – The Border (full) – listen
The duo that brought you the 2006 smash, “Hips Don’t Lie” have reunited for a new single. Wyclef teams up with Shakira again for “The Border.” The new single was produced by Timbaland. I can definitely see this being huge for both of them again. Shakira is prepping her third English studio album. In addition to being in the studio with Timbaland, she has also been working with super-producer, Pharrell.

♫ Melanie Fiona – Island Boy (full) – listen
Melanie Fiona just debuted her first music video, so it’s only appropriate that some new material from her leaks so the fans can get a taste of what her debut album, The Bridge will sound like. Admittedly, this wasn’t really what I was expect from Melanie, especially after her first single, “Give It To Me Right.” Even though I think she has a sweet voice, I hope this isn’t the type of material they believe in the most. I’m sure The Bridge has more heat than this.

♫ J-Kwon – Fly (full) – listen
Remember the hit from back in 2004, “Tipsy?” Well, J-Kwon is back with his new single, “Fly,” from his upcoming album Hood Hop 2.5, which is set to hit stores this summer. It seems as though the St. Louis native has stayed on good terms with those whom he had relationships with in the past. He is releasing this new album independently, and is working with Trackboyz and Jermaine Dupri on this new effort. “Fly” is the lead single from the new album.

♫ Sophia Fresh – Do the Dance (full) – listen
I wasn’t sure if this was Sophia Fresh or not yet, because I haven’t really familiarized myself with these girls’ voices. However, what I don’t understand is, even with that single, featuring Kanye West, it seemed like they didn’t really have any attention gravitate towards them. “Do the Dance” is a cute song, and parts of it’s production remind me of Keri Hilson’s “Return the Favor,” but there’s nothing necessarily spectacular about it. It’s just a fun song.

Looking forward to see the shakira and wyclef vid. ‘hips don’t lie’ is still a massive choon. I still think she taught beyonce a thing or two in ‘beautiful liar’ (added by Mobile using Mippin)

Wyclef and Shakira-This has hit written all over it. Somebody has finally come out with a summer jam that’s good, well to me that is.

Melanie-This song is hot. I can tell her album is gonna be mixture of all types of sounds based on the stuff I’ve heard from her so far. I think that’s smart, being one dimenisonal makes you boring as an artist after a while.

J-Kwon-I remember him lol. He sounds different, that little yodel he had in his voice is gone. Um the song is typical, but I happen to like this a little bit.

Sophia Fresh-The only song I don’t like out of the bunch. It’s a little too cheesy for me and I’m so sick of auto tune. What’s up with these girl groups out now? They can’t seem to get it together. Well EnVogue just reunited so maybe there is hope. They’re one for the best female groups ever.

@Neek, that group that sings D.A.N.C.E., as well as “Just Friends” <– a popular one by them, is JUSTICE. I think they capitalize all of their letters.

Haven’t had the opportunity to listen to any of the music yet, but I will soon. Hopefully in the morning when I get the chance.

Brian – I would have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of Melanie Fiona’s song “Island Boy”; and I would have to say that the song definitely impresses me in terms of her sound, and the diversity that her upcoming album “The Bridge” will bring. She explained during her EPK, that the main goal of her album “The Bridge” is to bridge the gap between different sounds and musical genres, and so far she’s done that impeccably well. On “Give It to Me Right” she get’s her R&B/Rock Star on, on “It Kills Me” she showcases her more gritty-soulful side, on “Sad Songs” Melanie shows love to her Guyanese roots, and I am sure that the rest of the album maintains that theme. Melanie Fiona is a gorgeous girl, with talent to boot – and I’m sure once everyone gives her a good listen, they will be impressed!

    CHRIS IN DANGER

Chris Brown would be living the high life if he had learned from other black american mens’ mistakes, instead of having to make the same life destroying decision for himself. American men who KNOW, KNOW THAT ALL Caribbean women are:
    Crazy

    Looking for greencards/citizenship

    Liars

Will poison you to get money and then nurse you back to health for gratitude

Will try hard to destroy you when they’re done with you or you try to end the con game

    Are hateful to americans

Are so jealous of american women that they only want to take our men, our country, our careers and our money

Don’t know how to raise boys and prostitute their children. That’s why all their men are misfits, and black woman haters, who marry ONLY white women when they come to america

There might be a few, very few, who don’t fit this modus operandi, but you just might end up dead trying to find that 1% who doesn’t fit the mold.

Stay with your own kind. Stick to the waters, lakes, and bridges you are used to. TLC said it, and it is true. All these beautiful nice christian intelligent black american women walking around, and Chris chose to associate with the devil. Stop the foolishness. Don’t learn everything the hard way.

    HA!

Being that I LOVE Caribbean music, I love that Melanie Fiona joint. It’s really cute and she has a strong voice. And I like her name too. It has a good ring to it. She can ACTUALLY SING unlike alot of folks getting mainstream play.

    Hey,

This is an old song. I heard it like 2 years ago when she was Syren. The album songs list is on her website and this is not on there. The other songs I’ve heard are HOT though. More in line with GIve It To Me Right and It Kills Me.
