What is the best hair care method for chemically straightened and colored hair? Should washes, trims, perms be more frequent?

My hair is all natural with no chemicals and have decided to grow dreadlocks. My hair has been twisted 2 months now and is yet to lock, do u know of any product that can be used to speedup that process. Gel is currently being used but it itches so I would prefer a more natural product since I also define myself now as being a modern Rastafarian. Thanks!

MY Question:
I just had a baby about a year ago and i noticed that my hair was growing while pregnant but after the pregnancy it started to fall a lot, like chunks of it would fall. How can I stop my hair from breaking and falling, and is there a product I can use to make my hair grow more?

Can you tell me the best hair products for curly frizzy hair? I’ve tried so may but it seems that I can’t find one that moisturizes and makes the curls look fresh? Also what’s a good deep conditioner for curly, frizzy hair?

Hey Ursula,
I’ve made the decision to go natural by transitioning. I have a slightly curly texture but I can’t determine what hair type at this time. Are there any regimines, products, or styles that you feel are best for transitioning hair?

Greeting Miss Ursula. I have a question relating to hair vitamins. There are several places you can purchase vitamins but I am interested in your opinion of one. There is a popular vitamin pill called Hairfinity. It contains Vitamins A, C, D, B-Vitamin Complex and Botin MSM. They have a website that includes the supplement facts and promotes the product with high praise. Do you think it’s a good product to use?

I’ve been transitioning to natural hair for about 4 months and am in dire need of protective styles! I understand that braiding is a good choice, however, I am unsure if braiding for long periods-of-time is the best idea for my hair. Do you have any other options that require little-to-no heat? Thank you Ursula, and congratulations to you on your success.

My hair is badly damaged, and i don’t know if it’s the perm i use or the last sew-in i had, do you recommend any products for this?

I have been wearing wigs because after my first bout with a sew in weave, which I left in too long, all of my hair came out. I must admit, I hadn’t taken the greatest care until now, but it seems to grow really slow and some spots don’t seem to be growing at all, mainly the top and the sides. Is this due to nutrition or dryness? I live in LA, the land of hard water.

Hi,
I went to a dominican hair salon for awhile and over time my hair was severely heat damaged and I had to chop off all my hair. Now that my hair is cut, I’m battling horrible scalp dryness and scalp flakiness. I’m thinking this is due to the fact my scalp was maybe partially burned by all the overheated blowdryers that were used? I’m now going back natural and I don’t use any shampoos with sulfates which seems to be helping halfway, but in terms of finding a leave in conditioner, I have not had any luck. I now have braids but my scalp is crying for moisture. Is there anything that can quench my hair and not leave buildup??Is there a specific regimen I should follow?

My friend has very bad damaged hair. She’s thinning on the top of her head and bald spots are becoming noticeable. Her hair is short up front and the back of her hair stops at her neck. Her hair is very dry no matter how much hair lotion she puts in it. Her hair never stays moist, which causes it to break. So she figures to go natural and leave the chemicals alone. She hasn’t had a perm in about 8months and her hair is so unmanageable. What can she use on her natural hair to keep it moist? She went the store and brought the Organic Root Stimulator products. Will this help her hair gain some length or strength? What pill vitamins could help treat her damaged hair?
Thanks

Hi Ursala,
I have a head FULL of hair and everyone always asks me if it’s a wig. I were wigs alot because my hair underneath is OUT OF CONTROL! Right now it’s cut into a short bob but it’s so thick and grows so fast it’s super hard to maintain. Do you know any hair products that will straighten and control my hair during it’s growth period? I get my hair relaxed but my hair grows so fast I need something in between for sleek and shine.
Thanks!

Ursula, I stopped relaxing my hair almost a year ago, and its the healthiest its been in years. My question is what pomade or gel works best on non-relaxed hair. I love ponytails in the summertime, but my hair doesn’t seem to lay down as well as it did when I had a relaxer.

Hi Ursula,
I recently purchased a titanium iron made by Babyliss. I’m wondering why my hair isn’t as silky when I shampoo/iron at home vs. when I’ve gone to the salon to have it done. It’s more coarse and dry. Could it be the conditioner/heat protectant that I’m using before I iron it?

Hi Ursula,
I have Fierce Layers, at it’s longest point my hair is 16″ and the shortest is 3″ (all mine, no weave) - I guess my hair resembles a modern day Farrah Fawcett… I love my hair and am complimented on it each day - my problem is that I have Dry Flaky Scalp. Is there anything I can do for this?
Also, I’ve never do my own hair and I will be attempting to wash and style it for the first time ever. What drying method would you suggest I use? (If I had to think of a celebrity with similar hair texture to mine, I would guess a mix of Jordin Sparks and Corrine Bailey Rae)
Hope you can help!

HEY URSULA!!
A WEEK AGO, I SHAVED MY HEAD STRAIGHT BALD! NO, I DIDN’T GO CRAZY BUT I WAS JUST SOOO TIRED OF DEALING WITH MY THICK, COARSE, OUT OF CONTROL, EVEN THO REGULARLY RELAXED HAIR. PLUS JUST LIKE #8, I HAD A BABY OVER A YEAR AGO & CHUNKS WERE FALLING OUT!! SO I SAID, THE HELL WITH THIS!
IT FEELS GOOD NOT TO HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HAIR NOW SO I CAN CONCENTRATE ON MY SCALP, THE FOUNDATION. MY QUESTION IS: SINCE I’M STARTING ALL OVER, WHAT CAN I DO NOW TO MY SCALP NOW TO ASSURE THE BEST & HEALTHIEST HAIR WHEN IT GROWS OUT?? (WHICH IT SEEMS TO BE DOING VERY QUICKLY!)
THANX!

Due to wearing a ponytail all the time, my hair has broken out profoundly in the back. I have a nice grade of hair but it doesn’t appear to be growing back, what can I use/or do to make it grow?
Also, is it true that if your hair is uneven we have to cut it all even and start over. Even if that means going really short. Some beauticians say its true and others say it isn’t. What do u suggest?

Hey Ursula,
Ok, so I am the epitome of mixed (Chinese, Jamaican, Irish, Spanish, African American, Native American Indian, and thats just to name a few.) So I have a hard time finding the right hair care. My hair is naturally curly, but is not coarse or nappy. It’s thin, and gets frizzy when curly. My problem is I want to wear my hair in a natural state more because I am growing it out. Do you have any products that will prevent frizz and contour my curls, along with providing moisture and help my hair grow? I know I am asking for a lot, but I am growing it to donate to locks of love. I have used Mixed Chicks and Jessie’s, and they work alright, not great. I just want something that will work….. Ok, last problem when my hair is straight I do not like to weigh it down with hair oils. What can I use to give my hair the shine and moisture that is necessary without looking like a greasy mess?….. Please Help! Thank You!!!

Currently I’m wearing a sew-in with my natural hair left-out at the crown and edges. It’s incredibly humid here in Atlanta and while I prefer to rock my hair bone-straight (without a relaxer), I notice that sweat and humidity cause my left-out edges to revert towards the roots. What type of styling product can I use to prevent my natural hair from curling up at the roots while combating humidity and frizz.

Hey Ursula,
I wanna transition from relaxed hair to texturized. My hair past my shoulders and I’m not really a short cut kinda girl. I’m tryin to avoid really damaging my hair during the transition… So not too much heat aside from the blow-out I get from the Dominican salon. Can I just put the texturizer onto my new growth and clip the relaxed ends slowly or should I just rock braids or a weave in the meantime while I wait for my natural hair to grow out and texturize it all at once. My hair is a 4a/b so I figure the texturizer would make my hair more manageable.
Thnx

Hi, I have been growing my hair out since spring 07, I had it cut in January and I have a great hair stylist who treats and press my hair every two weeks. The problem is its now summer in Detroit, that means 90 degree weather and high humidity. So 20 mins after I get it pressed it looks like I just rolled out of bed. What am I suppose to do with my hair durring the summer time? Is there a product I should use or do I go back to sew-ins for a while?

But recently my hair have been breaking, became very thin, and doesn’t grow as much as it used to. I thought it was because i was perming my hair too often, or because of a product i was using. @62, I’m not Ursula but YES. lmao. I’ve done it for a min and let’s just say I had the Brandy. And I’m not talking about the wig style. lol. I think because we have the tendency to over work the edges to make it blend with the weave. And we neglect the rest of our natural hair. So of coarse with time, the grade of your edges will be thinner than the rest of your hair. But wait and see what solutions Ursula has, because I want to go back to that style

um okay…so I’m natural and BC’d in January. I tend to be a product junkie but I’m trying to put those ways to the side. I know they say when your natural not to use mineral oil or products with petroleum in them because they clog your pores, so I tried to the evoo route and other natural oil routes and my scalp with be dry again in an hour. When I use products that do control those harmful products my thirst is quenched. What could I use that’s not harmful but will quench my natural hair’s thirst? I’ve tried Carol’s daughter and Natural Shea butter which is way to heavy at times. HELP A SISTA OUT lol
