Hey Ursula,

Okay so I will be starting college this fall & I want to do something different to my hair. My hair is in a grown out bob but I don’t like the current state its in. I really want to cut it into this http://tinypic.com/r/2vnnino/5 its similar to how you cut rihannas but im having a couple of problems….
1) I don’t go to the hair dresser often so I’m having a hard time finding someone that I will trust to cut my hair
2) I’ve been reading that you have to find a cut that fits your face… will that look nice on a heart shaped face..or does face shape really even matter?
3) Do think that this hair style will be manageable for a college student? I only get a relaxer maybe once a year & my mom is saying to keep my hair slicked down I’m going to have to get more relaxers…is there special products you use on Rihanna to get her hair to stay slicked down?
Thanks!

Ursula,

My hair has been shedding excessively for over a year now. My hair is really thick and it is not visible, but every time I comb or brush my hair its all over the place. It is amazing how much shedding I have everyday. I get my hair done every two weeks and get a retouch every 4 weeks or else my hair is really ‘nappy’ and difficult to manage. My stylist has recommended flaxseed oil, increased moisturizer and we have even switched relaxers…none ofthis has worked. I go to the doctor regulary and I am in good health. Can you please recommend something to help with this probelm. Also, I have always had shoulder length or a little longer hair. I have been wearing a short bob for a bout a 8 months, don’t use a lot of products and have recently cut my hair a little shorter hoping the shedding would stop, but still no luck!!! Please help!!

Hi, Ursula. Okay, let me give you a brief history. I would describe my hair as thin, and not very strong. There is a two parts of my edges that seems to have really weak hair, and the middle of my nape also, and it doesn’t seem to grow as much as the rest of my hair, but I think its natural (from my grandmother). My mom’s been relaxing my hair since I can remember, and it’s only been salon- and beauty school-relaxed a couple times. Also, spring ‘08, I got the “Rihanna”, and my hair has grown back, but I don’t think it’s grown back fast enough. I also do weaves and braids sometimes, but I feel like they damage my hair, especially after I take it out. It now looks like a little bob. However, my friends tell me that when its freshly permed, it “looks” healthy! Enough rambling. Basically, I would like to find out how I can make my hair healthy, stronger, and grow better.

Hi!
My hair is dry so when the summer comes around it is unbearable. It does nothing but frizz and I can never style it. Please suggest what i can do other than wearing it in a bun!

Ursula
I took out my weave about 7 months ago and my head was full of hair and length past shoulders. I didnt take care of it like I should have due to being busy and throwing it into a ponytail/not wrapping at night. Today, my hair has thinned out due to shedding so I started using Aphogee Products to stop the shedding. It seems to have stopped but how do I get the thickness back without getting a weave (length is still there)? Also, when I do wrap my hair and unwrap it doesnt fall correctly, its stiff and straight.
Thanks for all your help!!

If I pissed you off I am sorry, that was not my intention. But honestly I do you think Ursula would respond to your question when you putting down what she created…nope!

oh, and its call freedom of speech that gave me the authority to say what I want here on CL…just like you have that right to ripped on Rihanna’s hairstyle for no reason.

Don’t hate on the bald headed females because someone called you out your comment. Unlike yourself, I’m trying to find a solution from my problem…too bad they don’t have vitamin to remove that negative spirit in you. And I reocmmend spell check next time you comment, “Sat down” – its SIT down love.

I have relaxed, jaw length hair but it is incredibly thick and full. I did a radically short haircut last year and I didn’t get the results I was hoping for because my hair is too full. I want to try out the haircuts that are popular now (i.e. the blunt bangs trend) but for one, I don’t know a stylist that will be able to work around the the thickness, and two, if I trust someone to do so, I think I will just get an ultra-volume version of the haircut I was asking for. What do you recommend for a woman who wants to experiment with haircuts but has thick hair? Should I just avoid trendy hairstyles altogether?

But um… I have a “chubby face” lets say im “thick”aka kinda overweight. but my hair is shoulder length well it just touches it slightly in the front and in the back its closer to the bottom of my neck it touches the back of my shirt. I guess its natural layers but. i want to know what kind of hairstlye looks good. and my ends are horrible. with the summer heat coming on strong what can i do to make sure they are nice and straight and not bushy?

Hello Ursula,

I am transitioning from relaxed to natural. I used pretty much all natural hair products, and I’m noticing that my hair is growing a lot faster. Right now, my hair is in kinky twists as a protective style. But it itches like crazy and appears to be really dry. Any suggestions on what I can used for moisturizer?

Also, when my hair was not in kinky twists, I noticed that it felt dirtier faster than it would have when my roots were relaxed. I typically wash my hair now once or twice a week. When it was relaxed, I didn’t wash it for two or three weeks. Is this normal for going natural hair?

Thanks!

My situation is I have done so much to hair recently it looks like it stopped growing. And on top of that I hate perms. I was thinking about going natural but I still want to have fuller longer hair. I been doing so much research on it but it’s starting to scare me. What are your thoughts on going natural? The pros and cons? How would I know it’s right for me because it doesn’t fit everyone?

Hi Ursula.

Currently I have been letting my hair grow out naturally, and its been going well for the most part. But my one complaint is that I can’t find a daily moisterizer that isn’t heavy and greasy. For a time I was using hemp grease and now Pink oil lotion. Both do fine, but are so greasy I have to damn near wash my hair everyday. lol! Is there a lighter moisterizer for black hair that actually works, and won’t leave my hair a extremly oily?

hello Ursula!!

I noticed my hair fell out with no effort while i was a vegetarian for 2 yrs. i found out that protein and iron are needed for a healthy head of hair which i desperately lacked because I also have a mild case of anemia (iron deficiency), so i recently started eating fish and taking vitamins. Also, i “had” a hair stylist who literally burned my scalp every time she did my hair!! . The hair line has sort of receded and thinned out a bit, and i want to know what i can possibly do to make that hair grow back? or have my hair follicles been ruined due to the scorching, head ache pounding heat my hair dresser inflicted on me? I’ve been pampering my hair ever since, I’m just scared that my hair wont grow back to its full thickness…. do you know any good products?

Hi Ursula,

Since I was in middle school, I have always performed my own chemical services, including relaxers and color. Most recently, I wore a sleek shoulder lenght bob. At the end of January 2009, I put some black dye in my hair. On the morning of February 14th (my worst Valentine’s Day EVER), I put a relaxer in my hair; both the dye and the relaxer are manufactured by the same company (L’Oreal). Upon rinsing the relaxer out, ALL of my hair detached from the roots and the roots of my hair turned an auburn brown hue. Ok… since then I have been purchasing and making my own wigs, but my hair is growing back a totally different texture. I went from a fairly thick, somewhat fine and soft hair texture to a very thick, coarse, brittle texture. I have about an inch + of hair now, but I am still concerned; it’s nappy (LOL). Do you have any suggestions about anything (and I do mean ANYthing) I’ve mentioned?

Hi Ursula,
Ok so I haven’t permed my hair in about 5 yrs, and before I decided to stop perming my hair, I permed it very rarely, maybe every 5-6 months. My hair is usually in braids, and I’ve only trimmed it like twice…so my question is, if I was to perm my hair, will I still be able to put it in braids without it breaking? Also I had another questions considering the volume of my hair. Whenever I straighten my hair with a hot comb my hair is really really thin, but when my hair isn’t straightened it appears to be really full, so what can I do to create volume when my hair is straightend, and what products do you recommend that will actually GROW my hair and prevent breakage, because I’ve been trying to get my hair past my shoulders since I was ten. Thank you so much for taking out time to read this e-mail, and I really hope that you’ll be able to get back to me at your earliest convienience. Thank you soo much and have a Great Day!!!!

Hey there Ursula,

I am a postal carrier that delivers mail on a daily basis, meaning I am out in the elements (sun, rain, wind, cold and dirt). My hair is chemically treated (relaxed with box relaxer Organic Root Stimulator regular strength) without color. I sweat in my head a lot so I am not sure of what I can do to properly take care of my hair on a daily basis. I try to keep it moisturized (Wild Growth Hair oil is the only oil my hair does not soak up) and washed/conditioned but I usually let it air dry, meaning I don’t put heat in my hair that often. I just dont know what I can possibly do with my hair because I sweat so much its a waste of time to keep relaxing it, especially in the summer months, but it would be crazy to let my relaxer grow out and keep getting it flat ironed because iI sweat in my head, so that would be a waste too. So far this summer I have kept it corn rowed but I dont want to keep doing that because I am scared my edges will get pulled out. Currently my hair is shoulder length cut in layers (for an everyday ponytail). I want to keep my length and keep my hair growing but…I just dont know how to put my question in the proper words. What do you recommend to someone in my case that still wants to have nice, stylish and healthy hair in my situation? Please help me. I love your styles and your advice.

Thank you in advance for your time and advice.
