BET AWARDS ’09: JANET JACKSON SPEAKS ON STAGE + VIDEO

June 29th, 2009

Janet Jackson made a very emotional appearance at the end of the ’09 BET Awards on Sunday night. The singer/actress spoke on behalf of the Jackson Family with this statement:

“My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful. So they elected me to speak with all of you.

To you, Michael is an icon, to us, Michael is family. And he will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all of your love, thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”

In related news, Janet was made executor of Michael Jackson’s estate and will soon begin the long process of handling his assets, debts and what money her brother left behind. A family friend tells the New York Post, “She’s in charge, she had the documents, she has control of his stuff.”

Our hearts are definitely with Janet and the Jackson family at this time – that took a lot of strength. View video below…

this was the most genuine part of the entire show…and how they sung ill be there after this…hands down the best part of the show

but i honestly see why michael so desperatly struggled with wanting to be white after that display of foolishness that went on last night

jamies boa constrictor and wanting a close up of his junk
drake and weezy singing a song that should not be sung live and we could barely hear due to all the bleeping and then if that wasnt enough you have little girls runnin round on stage while your singing bout F’ing every girl in the world..yea thats def settin a good example for the kids
pants saggin to the point i could literally make out dudes behinds and see cracks

jus not tastefully done at all..

janet be strong!!!!! this was the only part of the show i actually liked.

as I watched her do that I held back tears. Janet and Joe being there showed the selflessness of the Jackson Family, even through the pain. Janet really loved her brother and Im glad she was put in charge of his estate. I can’t express enough my deepest condolences to his family. They are in my prayers.

@ 2 totally agree. Last night’s show was an embarrassment! The first major awards show able to do tribute to Michael, by his own people, and they get a big FAIL in my book. All that press about changing the show around, all the stars calling in and wanting to be a part of it, I never saw it.

I just knew Janet would come. Love her, love them. RIP Michael.

that was a disaster ..it seriously was. I was literally cringing throughtout the show…they had to know not just black people would be tuning in to see what they were gonna do..so why would our people carry on like that last night? and i seriously think tyrese and ving rhames were bout to fight..that was real..taraji played it off…but that was real..just a disgrace

now watch what i tell you..MTV..or some white nettwork..they gonna have a fabulous tribute..mark my words…

What a tremendous loss. The thing that makes me at peace with his passing is fact that he’s not in pain anymore. He’s free and at peace in heaven. Mr. Micheal Jackson, you are the greatest recording artist in history and you will not be forgotten.

That was truly an emotional moment seeing that picture of both of them together. It brings back memories of being young again and enjoying his music and appreciateing it so much when I was in high school. It kinds of reminds you of how innocent it was growing up in the 80′s when we took nothing for granted and appreciated life for what it was. We are truly living in different times now and all we can do is pray that we will have the strength to make it through his funeral/memorial service.

Janet Jackson brought the house down. She controls the stage. She has got to be one of the greatest live performers in history. Michael jackson, Madonna, Tina Tuner and janet Jackson. She’s so underrated because of the super bowl incident.

Janet is classy, sexual and beautiful. I sincerely hope she finds her way back to the top of the charts.

She needs more hits like Enjoy, Can’t be good, Rnb Junkie, which means Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis work wonders with her. Janet is the Original Beyonce but WITH MORE PERSONALITY.

Janet your fans LOVE you. Appreciate you and we love that you showed up to speak with us.

——To those of you who think the show was an embarrasment and foolishness,
——please allow everyone to grieve in their own way. Everyone is different! Don’t
——turn this into at argument or debate…yet! There’s plenty of time for that. Allow
——everyone have their own expression and time to reflect. We are all hurting! Don’t
——use your hurt to attack others…rather, use it for something positive. Find your

Janet, Madonna,Mariah, Whitney and Prince are the last of the ICONS left for our generation, (not including the old-timers, patti, gladys etc..).

I celebrate Janet, and the rest. They come from a time where they worked the STage, the Movies, the Videos and did so with grace. Janet Jackson, i hope you find your way back home to the top of the charts, we miss you you and love you.

BET is the worst network on earth. Talk about embarassing. That was the most ignorant awards show in the history of award shows (if you can call it that).

They didn’t even show the nominees half the time.

Little girls dancing on stage when when Young Money performed, wtf? Then to yell out “RIP MJ in this B***h!” Really?

Ving Rhames took the Baby Boy thing too far.

I could list a lot!! There were some good moments and but the bad outweighed the good. I still don’t know what the tribute was.

I’m officially done with BET, they have lost what little support I had left for them.

Dear BET, Thanks the boycott is back on.

@ #3 We all know that the bet awards had some flaws, but you cant knock the effort that they given. You gotta understand that they only had a few days to put it together. Even though there were mistakes, you cant deny the love that was given last night.
The Bet show reminded me of a backyard party. You had the the drunk uncle who would slip up and say the wrong things( Eddie Levert). You had the grandfather who had the longwinded stories( Don Cornelius) and you hand the crazy cousin (Jaime Fox). Overall i thought the show was great. They may want to doctor it up before they show reruns but great.

That made me tear up last night. Be strong Janet! Can you believe she was actually in the middle of shooting a movie when she heard the news? So sad!

As for the award show, I wasn’t expecting much so it was OK for me. As well as every other BET award show I have watched, there were parts that i laughed and parts that i tuned out and turned the channel.

I enjoyed Mary Mary with Queen Latifah, Neyo, Cici doing “Heal the World” and Keyshia&Monica, as well as some of the jokes. Somehow, Jamie made it comfortable to laugh. Kudos.

Like how Michael said in Black or white- I’m not going to spend my whole life being a color.

I’m from the UK- so didnt catched the show – If they only viewed black photos of MJ that bit ridiculous. It wasnt his exterior to me – it was his beautiful soul. The body turn to dust = the soul remains on.

That was the worst damn show ever! And besides Neyo singing the MJ song, all the rest of it was a pitiful attempt at a tribute. Instead of rushing, they should have just waited and did a tribute show later. That poor excuse for a tribute, with Jamie Fox and his dumb jokes, just made me sick. It wasn’t a dignified expression of how most people truly felt about him. Jamie foxx is so damn ghetto, with his corny azz jokes sometimes.

Beyonce’s performance was the worst! I mean, what the hell! What kind of tribute was that suppose to be? I can’t stand that dumb azz bytch! WHat was the whole point of dressing in the wedding frock? I can’t stand that dumb bytch! And i swear she drinks her water with grease, cause she gains weight so easily. Her shoulders and neck looked much bigger than she’s been looking in recent weeks. That’s all a result of crash dieting and then going back to eating, and her body holds onto the weight. How many young 20 year olds wear support hose on a regular?!

Cici’s attempt at singing a MJ song was horrible! I mean, simply horrible.

Did anybody else notice how lil wayne and that so called best new upcoming rapper drake (which by the way i didn’t see what the hype was about) was singing F*&k all the girls in the world with little teenage girls on the stage. Appalling!

I really wish black people will get up to the standard that non-minorities have when putting on an event. Black people always got to ghetto up something. I found that tribute an embarrasing attempt.

And what the hell has mary mary been eating? Damn them girls picking up weight.

    @40,
I love how you ended “signed, Every educated Black person”lol

I undertand about the MJ tribute, especially since it was completely LAST MINUTE! I am sure that many ideas but it is also about whether the artist confirms that they were willing to do a last minute MJ tribute. I WAS VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED IN BEYONCE! Her performance was more for a Beyonce concert….not a AWARD SHOW performance! But I was even more disappointed that she didnt sing a song Michael’s!! She know she could have done that!! BIG UPS to NeYo for his performances!!! ‘Lady In My Life’ was flawless…he dang near sounded like MJ. He should put that on an album!

BTW, I understand why the MJ tribute was luke warm considering the time frame. But was up with the GHETTO MOMENTS? But my favorite moments was when:

**Actress Zoe Saldana went on stage without the legendary Nichelle Nichols because she was in the bathroom? (Ultimate disrepect!….I wanted to smack her!)
