BET AWARDS ’09: JANET JACKSON SPEAKS ON STAGE + VIDEO

Janet Jackson made a very emotional appearance at the end of the ’09 BET Awards on Sunday night. The singer/actress spoke on behalf of the Jackson Family with this statement:

“My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful. So they elected me to speak with all of you.

To you, Michael is an icon, to us, Michael is family. And he will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all of your love, thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”

In related news, Janet was made executor of Michael Jackson’s estate and will soon begin the long process of handling his assets, debts and what money her brother left behind. A family friend tells the New York Post, “She’s in charge, she had the documents, she has control of his stuff.”

Our hearts are definitely with Janet and the Jackson family at this time – that took a lot of strength. View video below…

Jscene shut the hell up! period.

  2. ***PLEASE READ***

okay first!! whoever reported about janet and his estate is WRONG!! an EXECUTOR (and its EXECUTRIX) is someone the deceased names in a will….and if janet was to be “in charge” of his estate the the court would appoint her as an ADMINSTRATRIX. The estate would go to the next of kin which is his children….but thats another legal story…..

I dont think the BET awards were as bad as people are saying…i do agree that they couldve done a lil better with the “tribute” but it was a short time frame. and one thing u all have to understand is it wasnt supposed to be a mourning tribute…it was a celebration of his music. and what do u all expect when u have jamie foxx as the host? he is a COMEDIAN so of course it wasnt going to be serious.

the performances…i didnt particularly like soulja boy, lil wayne or beyonce’s performance but u all have to understand yeah it was a DEDICATION to michael but it was still an AWARD SHOW for the PRESENT ARTISTS!!!! lol and what the hell did you all expect from LIL WAYNE???

and for us as black people to constantly put each other down is the real disgrace! if the ones making those comments about how its shameful to be black and u are black….how can we possibly come together if we put each other down everytime we try to do anything???

but i think everyone is VERY EMOTIONAL about his passing and i think thats why so many people are disappointed. we all were touched by michael and his music. but there will be a million and one tributes to michael…

what u all really should be complaining about is all these LAME ASS SHOWS BET got coming up…..now deborah lee should be fired for those lol

and i also think any tribute that is done wont be good enough for michael….this man was the effin GREATEST!!! omg im bout to cry….time for me to get off here now lol!!

I LOVE YOU MICHAEL JACKSON!!!! loved u since i was 2….and im 22 now! REST IN ETERNAL PEACE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED AND NEVER EVER EVER EVER FORGOTTEN……. .::tear::.

please do not comment on something that you do not comprehend it was of honor, respect, and admiration that within only 3 days these peope these entertainers dedicated extra precision and time to Michael Jackson, his legacy and what he stood for those tributes werent planned they didnt rehearse several weeks before hand they put their all into this worked very hard ppl like keri for stance alered their performances to dedicate it to this man who is a musical icon a man who was just amazing at what he did.
Michael Jackson did not let the stage move him he moved the stage he was the stage.

How dare you criticize those who put more than effort and their time to honor mj you have no Idea what it took to put this through. It was a great show. And yes I have a sense of knowledge of an idea because I went to the rehearsals.

Everyhing you said was entirely disrespectful to mj as well.
    nuff said God Bless.

I think to those who don’t understand why many are angry, embarassed and disgusted with this “ceremony” is because they had MJ’s name attached to it and they promoted as being in his honor.

For the people that stand by the fact that they had 3 days is fine however when you are in the media and entertainment you have to be quick on your toes and be able to deliver. They did not, plain and simple. They couldn’t ” put their money where their mouth is”.

It has nothing to do with people not showing black love and etc (just the fact that many of us are truly disgusted with the show speaks volume) it is the fact that it had very litttle to do with MJ. He was a phenomenon and they did not portray a show that could match what he is, was and will always be.

Many other shows were taking notes because BET went first. Unfortunately, the bar was not raised high if even at all. The other tributes will make a mockery of BET’s tribute…(At this point anything will)

I will not bring up the bad parts of the show since everyone seems to be fully aware of them.

RIP Michael Jackson (that will never sound right) and Thank you Miss Jackson for being selfless and bringing us comfort in your time of need. So much love and so much respect is sent your way.

that picture is so damn freakin cute i wanna cry looking at it…..deeps breath.

I hate when people *beep* up MJ songs — and that’s what they did at BET Awards! Janet is strong woman.

  10. Ms. Keen

Just wanted to throw in a little correction here… KATHERINE JACKSON (not Janet) had temporary control of MJ’s estate until today (7/6/09). The judge has now appointed the original executors listed in MJ’s will as the special administrators of the estate, as MJ wanted.

I, too, was disappointed in BET’s tribute to MJ…. definitely could have been better… but Janet’s remarks were so heartfelt…. couldn’t help but feel her pain…

  11. Ms. Keen

(addition to previous comment)….Just in case you haven’t heard, new controllers of the estate are John Branca & John McClain, the originally named executors in the will. Branca was MJ’s longtime lawyer & friend, and McClain is a music exec. The judge did rule, however, that they must keep Katherine Jackson in the loop about MJ’s assets.

RIP MJ…. I hope you finally do have peace… God knows the world wouldn’t let you have it…

I thought the end of the BET Award was the most interesting and touching. It was when Janet Jackson spoke and made her emotional tribute to her older brother Michael Jackson. I thought it was so good. I feel for her and the Jacksons.
