Mariah Carey announced via her Twitter page (as she’s been doing so often lately) that her first single from her forthcoming album, Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel is titled “Obsessed” and will debut next Tuesday, June 16th.
On her Twitter page, Mariah describes the single as a “fun, uptempo song for the summer.” She neglected to mention any producers, but I’m sure that she’s not steering clear of the formulas that made Emancipation of Mimi a success, or the songs that people enjoyed from her last effort, E=MC².
I’m expecting some production and writing from Tricky Stewart and The Dream, considering the success she garnered from “Touch My Body.”
USHER ALBUM NEWS
Pharrell Williams recently sat down with Billboard.com for an interview, where he released some news about Usher’s new album, which we’ve learned will drop later this year, with the title Monster.
“The Usher album is crazy. His album is the review of the mind of a monster,” Pharrell said.
“He’s somewhere else right now… like a whole different kind of R&B,” he added. “It’s really great, it’s super edgy. He’s taken a lot of time to really sit and study and we really built something that is like… it’s just–it’s mean.”
In addition to working with Pharrell, Usher has also got some tracks from Bangladesh, and is rumored to be going into the studio with Timbaland and Danjahandz. Pharrell is currently working on Rihanna’s hotly anticipated fourth LP, as well as new music for his band, N.E.R.D. and The Clipse.
JORDIN SPARKS ALBUM COVER
Jordin Sparks reveals the album cover for her sophomore set, Battlefield. The Idol winner is gearing up to release her second album on July 21st.
On the album, Jordin has worked with Jesse McCartney, Toby Gad, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder and a rumored duet with British starlet, Leona Lewis.

I want the old Mariah back when she worked with Walter Alfanastaif or whatever his name was. Now they wrote some timeless music together.
Obsessed was co-produced/co-written by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. The video is set to be done by Brett Ratner. The song debuts next week Tuesday on B96 at 3:00 pm.
By the way, she already surpassed Elvis. He has 17 #1 singles whereas Mariah has 18. Only the Beatles have more, with 20.
@ WillPwr Mariah did songs with Walter Afanassieff on this album. He announce it on June 9th on his twitter page. He calls their new songs as “magic.”

I hope Mariah’s new song is nothing like “touch my body” because i really didn’t like that song, but hopefully it’ll be good lets just hope the nightmare hasn’t produced too many songs on this album.

*I’m not really looking forward to MC album. I am looking forward to Usher I do think *his was great but a little too laid back for me and the up tempos didn’t really quite *hit it. Nevertheless I love Pharrell.

@Trent…is she really back with Walter?!?!?! because if that is true that would be a dream come true…the music they made together was timeless…this makes me even more excited for her album…before Jermaine Dupri, it was the Mariah-Walter Afanassief duo that was unstoppable.
The emancipation of Mimi was the perfect balance of old and new…the last album had too much of a bubble gum/hip hop pop valor…Take it back Mariah…Take it back!!!
I’m sorry but Pharrell’s endorsement of the Usher album is so generic…I’ll just have to hear for myself. Usher’s albums have always been just ‘okay’ with the exception of Confessions which was beyond phenomenal, a classic R&B album. Can kinda be said about Mariah too. Since Butterfly, she hadn’t really had a decent classic R&B joint since The Emancipation. Everything else was just okay. I just hate when she tries too hard with the hip-hop/r&b stuff like she is vocally the answer to the hood.

Mariah will never make those songs from her first 3 cd’s because she cant sing them anymore. She makes these bubblegum songs now because thats what suits her voice. I just need for her to sing, all that whispering she has been doing is lame.

Mariah’s voice has deepened over the years (like her sisters) so she should sing in chest voice but in a much lower key and kill the whispering/trying to sing high notes- then she’d sound great again. I thnk she should just embrace her deeper voice a la anita baker/sade/ toni braxton and sing an octave or two lower. Lets hope Obsessed is a great track cause I was soo disappointed when I heard Touch my body
