NEWS: BET AWARDS TO HONOR MICHAEL JACKSON
Saturday, June 27, 2009

According to reports, Sunday night’s 9th Annual BET Awards will be dedicated to Michael Jackson, who died on Thursday, June 25 at the age of 50.
BET Networks’ CEO, Debra L. Lee, said the awards show, which honors African Americans in various entertainment media, will pay tribute to the musician’s legacy. @4 Kaylonie,
I have a suggestion. Ignore the sites that aren’t tired of talking about him and how much he meant to them.
I mean, I never met the man, and never got into his music like that, but I can respect the influence he had over our culture, and if people are so saddened by his death and consider it a personal loss, I can respect that too.

CHRIS BROWN is hands down the best to do the tribute. He is the youngest and he is closer to Mike’s move than anyone else. That Thriller tribute he did in Europe for Mike - was the bomb. He has plead guilty and he has his sentence. BET needs don’t need to be judge and jury. He should be performing - point, blank, period

Co-sign 100%. I don’t even see how someone could have the nerve to say something like that. All these celebs people are naming cb, bey, neyo, jt, etc wouldn’t even be where they are if it wasn’t for MJ. He changed the face of music, opened doors for other black artists, made people step their game up when it came to music videos. And yes you can thank MJ for all the black faces you now see on MTV. That’s because of him. He was the first. So Kaylonie you need to respect a legend and icon when you see one. If you’re tired just go do something else but next time keep comments like that to yourself at a time like this. It’s too soon hun.

i loved michael jackson’s music and understand the influence that he had on not just the music industry or the black community but just the world as a whole….but my thing is,i hate how people treat others after they’ve passed…
when this man was alive,he was treated HORRIBLY by the same people who are claiming to be so heartbroken over it..he was called every negative name in the book…and it just saddens me how now everybody loves him because he’s gone…
as for the BET Awards, because its dedicated to michael, thats why i will be watching,im expecting Chris Brown and Usher to give a good show…

My heart hurts so badly because of MJ’s passing. I wish the media would respect his family’s privacy and leave them alone. The media is to blame for how bad his reputation was ruined. I know the constant negativity that came from them contributed to the downward spiral of Michael. Imagine if everyday people were saying things about you? That you were the rebuttal of people’s jokes. I don’t think anyone commenting could handle that. The media was so caught up in Michael’s personal life that they completely forgot what he stood for as a person and entertainer. He wasn’t a child molester or the “guy that lost his black card.” He was the greatest entertainer EVER, and every knuckle head out there today owes him for paving the way for him. You look at all of these kids like Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Usher.. all wanting to be someone they could NEVER amount to.
The world lost such a great talent. I don’t think people will ever heal from this. People grew up with Michael! They are his childhood! RIP Michael.

I do agree but at the same time you need to realize that not EVERYONE likes mourning over the dead. It may take some people weeks, months, or even years to get over this while it may take others hours or 1 day. However, some people don’t like to mourn and think about something so tragic for too long. I do believe that Kaylonie could’ve been more respecful but I also understand where he/she is coming from. It does seem like Michael has been taking over the Earth over the past few days - which I totally understand - but some people may not. Everyone is different. You may feel like multiple posts of him, shows, videos, music, and talking of him is the right way to show respect for this legend’s passing while others are moreso to the point with it. Like “okay, he died and we are all very sad for losing one of the greatest entertainers of all time but can we move it right along”. You may not be one of those people.
It’s like, as soon as someone passes away, THEN people want to respect that person and say good things about that person. Weren’t half of the people on here talking trash about his outfit and face the other day? I mean really, it is so SAD that it takes someone to die for people to realize how great they were and respect them. SMH

You should direct that comment to the one talking about being tired of hearing about Michael already. Not Peachezzz. If he was treated poorly in life, can’t he at least be shown some respect in death? I can’t speak for people who treated him that way but some of us have been MJ fans since childhood. He represents an entire era of our lives. Some on here can’t understand that. They are already here making this about Chris Brown and others. Who won’t even accomplish a fraction of what MJ did in his lifetime. The gravity of MJ’s influence has been lost on this younger generation.

I hear you but you are talking to someone who respects and admires MJ as an artist, a man, a humanitarian..not just after his death but very much so when he was alive. I own every song he ever made. Even when he was with the Jackson 5. So no I won’t just move it right along. If someone feels we should then perhaps that person shouldn’t be on a freaking post about MJ don’t you think? I mean some things are better left unsaid.

_____________________________________________________________________
Sweatheart, unless your name is Jesus Christ I suggest you stop claiming what other artist’s musical career will get to. Now I’m not saying Chris Brown is the next Michael Jackson but to say the he, along with others, will not accomplish a fraction of what MJ has is just rediculous. None of us knows the future. I mean for example, ALL OF US thought ‘Rihanna’ was a one hit wonder with “Pon de Replay” but look how far she’s gotten. So, never say never. Many people have the potential to be an amazing artist - maybe not like MJ - but close to it. It is all in how they set themselves up and apart from the rest of the crowd.

I never said I was tired of hearing about MJ. I’m just saying, you need to realize that not everyone was such a fan like you were and not everyone mourned for more than 2 days. Kaylonie’s comment was highly heartless but hey, we all have opinions don’t we.

I can tell by this conversation that you’re much younger than I am. Honestly just the fact that you’re using Rihanna as an example tells me all I need to know about your lack of comprehension of the records MJ has broken. Over 100 million sold of 1 album is something that just doesn’t happen nowadays. I don’t have to be jesus christ to know that. Donating over $300 million to charity is something that only a select few people could ever do. I don’t have to be jesus christ to know that either. So when I speak of what he accomplished I’m not just referring to on the stage but what he has done for people all across the globe. You ended your sentence with “not like MJ but close to it”…which is the same as the point I made. So I don’t get why you feel the need to try to argue me down. It really isn’t necessary.

Mariah been performing “i’ll be there” for years and years, yet some sayin she shouldn’t sing it because her voice ain’t what it used to be? It’s really not all about the best vocal performance at this point. This is about people who really should be / really want to be paying tribute to michael. Obviously beyonce will do something, but don’t try to slam people who knew michael and have actually performed with him before. These stans are DISGUSTING.

Many celebs are fans of Michael Jackson and I find it stupid people think they can judge their “degree of fan-ness” (lol) on here. I’m sure Mike would appreciate anyone paying homage regardless if it seems hypocritical or not to you…point is they’re STILL honoring him. There is a bigger picture and folks are working together during these sad times. Beyonce, etc were ALREADY performing no matter how you feel…they revamped their set to honor Mike. Please let’s just celebrate talent and folks trying to do what they do best/get paid for in attempts to remember this man.

Yeah I wasn’t really thinkin the aspect of “Oh she gonna tear that song up” or “oh she is going be doing all kinds of runs” I just wanted Mariah to do b/c she was the one the artist that brought that song back the life when she did the inital rendition. And I am sure she could muscle up some nice pipes for “I’ll Be There” even if has to sing it in a lower key. I mean it ain’t like she sound likes a gremlin. I know she ain’t the Mariah of “Visions of Love” or “Hero” but homegirl can still hold a note. Singers know their limits, she’s a professional so I don’t think she would do just fine.
