According to reports, Sunday night’s 9th Annual BET Awards will be dedicated to Michael Jackson, who died on Thursday, June 25 at the age of 50.
BET Networks’ CEO, Debra L. Lee, said the awards show, which honors African Americans in various entertainment media, will pay tribute to the musician’s legacy. @4 Kaylonie,
I have a suggestion. Ignore the sites that aren’t tired of talking about him and how much he meant to them.
I mean, I never met the man, and never got into his music like that, but I can respect the influence he had over our culture, and if people are so saddened by his death and consider it a personal loss, I can respect that too.

CHRIS BROWN is hands down the best to do the tribute. He is the youngest and he is closer to Mike’s move than anyone else. That Thriller tribute he did in Europe for Mike - was the bomb. He has plead guilty and he has his sentence. BET needs don’t need to be judge and jury. He should be performing - point, blank, period

Co-sign 100%. I don’t even see how someone could have the nerve to say something like that. All these celebs people are naming cb, bey, neyo, jt, etc wouldn’t even be where they are if it wasn’t for MJ. He changed the face of music, opened doors for other black artists, made people step their game up when it came to music videos. And yes you can thank MJ for all the black faces you now see on MTV. That’s because of him. He was the first. So Kaylonie you need to respect a legend and icon when you see one. If you’re tired just go do something else but next time keep comments like that to yourself at a time like this. It’s too soon hun.

i loved michael jackson’s music and understand the influence that he had on not just the music industry or the black community but just the world as a whole….but my thing is,i hate how people treat others after they’ve passed…
when this man was alive,he was treated HORRIBLY by the same people who are claiming to be so heartbroken over it..he was called every negative name in the book…and it just saddens me how now everybody loves him because he’s gone…
as for the BET Awards, because its dedicated to michael, thats why i will be watching,im expecting Chris Brown and Usher to give a good show…

My heart hurts so badly because of MJ’s passing. I wish the media would respect his family’s privacy and leave them alone. The media is to blame for how bad his reputation was ruined. I know the constant negativity that came from them contributed to the downward spiral of Michael. Imagine if everyday people were saying things about you? That you were the rebuttal of people’s jokes. I don’t think anyone commenting could handle that. The media was so caught up in Michael’s personal life that they completely forgot what he stood for as a person and entertainer. He wasn’t a child molester or the “guy that lost his black card.” He was the greatest entertainer EVER, and every knuckle head out there today owes him for paving the way for him. You look at all of these kids like Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Usher.. all wanting to be someone they could NEVER amount to.
The world lost such a great talent. I don’t think people will ever heal from this. People grew up with Michael! They are his childhood! RIP Michael.

I do agree but at the same time you need to realize that not EVERYONE likes mourning over the dead. It may take some people weeks, months, or even years to get over this while it may take others hours or 1 day. However, some people don’t like to mourn and think about something so tragic for too long. I do believe that Kaylonie could’ve been more respecful but I also understand where he/she is coming from. It does seem like Michael has been taking over the Earth over the past few days - which I totally understand - but some people may not. Everyone is different. You may feel like multiple posts of him, shows, videos, music, and talking of him is the right way to show respect for this legend’s passing while others are moreso to the point with it. Like “okay, he died and we are all very sad for losing one of the greatest entertainers of all time but can we move it right along”. You may not be one of those people.
It’s like, as soon as someone passes away, THEN people want to respect that person and say good things about that person. Weren’t half of the people on here talking trash about his outfit and face the other day? I mean really, it is so SAD that it takes someone to die for people to realize how great they were and respect them. SMH

You should direct that comment to the one talking about being tired of hearing about Michael already. Not Peachezzz. If he was treated poorly in life, can’t he at least be shown some respect in death? I can’t speak for people who treated him that way but some of us have been MJ fans since childhood. He represents an entire era of our lives. Some on here can’t understand that. They are already here making this about Chris Brown and others. Who won’t even accomplish a fraction of what MJ did in his lifetime. The gravity of MJ’s influence has been lost on this younger generation.

I hear you but you are talking to someone who respects and admires MJ as an artist, a man, a humanitarian..not just after his death but very much so when he was alive. I own every song he ever made. Even when he was with the Jackson 5. So no I won’t just move it right along. If someone feels we should then perhaps that person shouldn’t be on a freaking post about MJ don’t you think? I mean some things are better left unsaid.

_____________________________________________________________________
Sweatheart, unless your name is Jesus Christ I suggest you stop claiming what other artist’s musical career will get to. Now I’m not saying Chris Brown is the next Michael Jackson but to say the he, along with others, will not accomplish a fraction of what MJ has is just rediculous. None of us knows the future. I mean for example, ALL OF US thought ‘Rihanna’ was a one hit wonder with “Pon de Replay” but look how far she’s gotten. So, never say never. Many people have the potential to be an amazing artist - maybe not like MJ - but close to it. It is all in how they set themselves up and apart from the rest of the crowd.

I never said I was tired of hearing about MJ. I’m just saying, you need to realize that not everyone was such a fan like you were and not everyone mourned for more than 2 days. Kaylonie’s comment was highly heartless but hey, we all have opinions don’t we.

I can tell by this conversation that you’re much younger than I am. Honestly just the fact that you’re using Rihanna as an example tells me all I need to know about your lack of comprehension of the records MJ has broken. Over 100 million sold of 1 album is something that just doesn’t happen nowadays. I don’t have to be jesus christ to know that. Donating over $300 million to charity is something that only a select few people could ever do. I don’t have to be jesus christ to know that either. So when I speak of what he accomplished I’m not just referring to on the stage but what he has done for people all across the globe. You ended your sentence with “not like MJ but close to it”…which is the same as the point I made. So I don’t get why you feel the need to try to argue me down. It really isn’t necessary.

Mariah been performing “i’ll be there” for years and years, yet some sayin she shouldn’t sing it because her voice ain’t what it used to be? It’s really not all about the best vocal performance at this point. This is about people who really should be / really want to be paying tribute to michael. Obviously beyonce will do something, but don’t try to slam people who knew michael and have actually performed with him before. These stans are DISGUSTING.

Many celebs are fans of Michael Jackson and I find it stupid people think they can judge their “degree of fan-ness” (lol) on here. I’m sure Mike would appreciate anyone paying homage regardless if it seems hypocritical or not to you…point is they’re STILL honoring him. There is a bigger picture and folks are working together during these sad times. Beyonce, etc were ALREADY performing no matter how you feel…they revamped their set to honor Mike. Yeah I wasn’t really thinkin the aspect of “Oh she gonna tear that song up” or “oh she is going be doing all kinds of runs” I just wanted Mariah to do b/c she was the one the artist that brought that song back the life when she did the inital rendition. And I am sure she could muscle up some nice pipes for “I’ll Be There” even if has to sing it in a lower key. I mean it ain’t like she sound likes a gremlin. I know she ain’t the Mariah of “Visions of Love” or “Hero” but homegirl can still hold a note. Singers know their limits, she’s a professional so I don’t think she would do just fine.

I dont want to see any Single Ladies performance, Miss Independent performance or anything right now….JUst Purely Michael Jackson! Michael Jackson? YES, MICHAEL JACKSON!

LOL @ 86,
I know how you feel! You know dude is great when you cant stand his guts but know he has to do a tribute to MJ. Its a fact! No other punk, not Usher or Omarion could possibly do a dance performance like Mike than Chris. I hate building this nig’s ego but its true! But for the vocal arrangements…NeYo has to do a MJ tribute. Whether its ‘Remember the Times’, ‘You are not alone’, ‘Rock With you’ , Human Nature, or any other classic Michael Jackson slow jam will have to be NEYO. I am confident with that!

Here in nyc there have been many tributes. I went to one on Thursday with my husband and it was incredible, there were a number of celebs there, no camera’s, no autograph hounds,
just the love of his music. one after another people just came on to the stage and sung their fav MJ song. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place.

I also even think that Ri-Ri could do ‘Wanna Be Startin Sumthin’. Especially with that part she did in ‘Please Dont Stop The music’! Aaaaaaaw, just sooooooo many ideas! I know it is short notive but they better pull this ish out right! I mean its Michael Jackson for christ sake!!

I’m glad someone already got @ Tiff Will… that “you never know” comment is just stupid.
c’mon, NO ONE will EVER even compare to MJ. all u youngns only remember MJ for the scandal - not for the music… he broke barriers, ppl… he practically CREATED the blueprint that all of these musicians now follow - dance sequences, music videos w/concepts, even breaking away from the boyband and becoming THE solo artist… he was able to make u dance AND think w/his lyrical content. the ultimate humanitarian… have gave himself for US… get it together ppl… he was and still is considered somewhat of a demigod. just ask ur parents…
that being said, if Chris is gonna make a comeback it HAS to be with this MJ tribute. thats the first thing I thought when I heard of the tribute… let’s face it - no other performer out right now can do MJ true justice (performance-wise) as Chris can. and this is his only moment that allows ppl to forget all of his troubles and enjoy him perform. everyone will be caught up in remembering MJ… its truly now or never for Chris.

I alot of people are just talking about the yound artist that should be performing but I think they need to bring back some old school artist on this one also like Boys 2 men, Mariah Carey, Mary JB, Faith Evens, New Edition, Whitney Houston, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Tyrese, Ginuwine, etc shoot they made ways for the people yal talking about like Chris, Beyonce, Usher, Ciara…Now I am not saying that they shouldnt have new school I just think they should be a mix of both , I mean they is more to music then just the artist now and Michael has been around for a long time so it is only fitting that they try to mix in a little of everyone that came after him.

Sorry……………………………………….??? Don’t be sorry man, you’re speaking the truth. I think the saddest sight thing right now in the wake of his death will be the inevitable ‘Tribute’ performances that will only serve to hammer home that Greatness really did die yesterday… let the likes of Neyo and Chris Brown have their careers but don’t dare tout them as worthy replacements for the Best. Those mediocrely talented wannabes have forever been paying ‘homage’ i.e. biting left, right and center the Legacy of the Greatest Entertainer who Ever Lived Inc. throughout their careers. It’s just those too young to remember MJ at his best who eat up their plagiarism like it’s fresh. Those championing Chris Brown as MJ’s natural successor, hoping he’ll get his Redemption piggy-backing on the back of this tragedy need their heads testing. Those acts despite being good imitators of better artists, will never hope to match what MJ achieved in terms of charisma, uber talent, ORIGINALITY, likeability and critical acclaim. In fact, if they truly are ’so inspired’ by Michael Jackson then why is their music so awful? MJ was an ambassador on so many levels and lastly, shouldn’t be cheapend by lazy comparison to unworthy noughties artists

Why are they rushing to do a tribute? Is it they want to be one of the first ones to air a MJ tribute? I think BET’s heart is in the right place, but maybe not the mind. You can’t throw together a tribute to Michael Jackson for a show that airs Sunday, when he passed the previous Thursday. His tribute should not be rushed. They still could’ve dedicated the show to him, did a montage, and have someone get up there and say some words. I think after you do some planning, and put together a stellar tribute, you have the tribute, which hold Michael’s name, not the name of the BET Awards. While I truly hope it turns out great, and they are able to pull together somewhat of a decent line up (My vision of a good one differs greatly from the ones I’ve seen suggested here, but we all have our different opinions), I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a good tribute but not the best, because I’m sure their will be many, but those would have included time and great planning.

NONE OF THE PEOPLE YOU ALL IDOLISE ON HERE WILL EVER COME CLOSE TO MICHAEL JACKSON. THE KING OF POP IS WHO HE WAS. EVERYONE ELSE IS A WANNABE MICHAEL IMITATION. YOU ALL STAN ON HERE FOR MEDIOCRE ARTISTS BUT MAKE JOKES ABOUT THE GREATEST. THEY ALL WISH THEY COULD BE ON HIS LEVEL. YOU YOUNGSTERS ON HERE MAKE ME LAUGH TALKING ABOUT USHER, NE-YO, CHRIS, AND ALL THE OTHER WANNABES. NONE OF THEM ARE ORIGINAL. THEY ARE ALL JUST WATERED DOWN IMITATIONS OF THE REAL THING. Realest, I get what you’re saying, but my father said the same thing about Michael Jackson in comparison to James Brown.
Artistes are there to be imitated and their music innovated upon.
Sure these artistes aren’t on the same level, but that’s not a reason for them not to have fans. Even at his absolute peak of popularity, there were Prince fans mouthing off on MJ.
People like what they like.

hands down chris brown for sure. its going to be very sad because, its still so hard to believe. words cant even explain what he really meant to all of us, black brown yellow, white, green whatever color or creed. we in america should have showed him much more love because without a doubt he love us. until america started pickin on him. he was a kid at heart in so misunderstood. we owe him the best tribute at least give him that. because his heart was so soft in when people take kindness as a sign of weakness its a terrible thing. the reason he spent so much time in other countries is because america can be so mean and judgemental to ther own. in will kiss everybody else ass. this bet will be bitter sweet. make michael proud he’s watching us. we love you mike. sorry for everything. thank you for everything. rest now because god showed us he love you best.

STEUPZ THAT IS A DISTURBING PICTURE FIRST OF ALL. LOL.
MICHAEL WAS INSPIRED BY JAMES BROWN AND JACKIE WILSON IT’S TRUE BUT HE MADE WHAT HE DID HIS OWN. HE DID NOT IMITATE AND SAMPLE THE HELL OUT OF THEM LIKE PEOPLE DO MICHAEL. HE WAS ORIGINAL. HE WAS INNOVATIVE. HE CREATED. THAT’S WHAT AN “ARTIST” IS SUPPOSED TO DO. YOU CAN’T GO AROUND SINGING OTHER PEOPLE’S SONGS AND COPYING THEIR EVERY MOVE AND CALL YOURSELF AN ARTIST. YOU DON’T GET ANY RESPECT THAT WAY. WRITE YOUR OWN. MAKE YOUR OWN. CREATE YOUR OWN. MICHAEL DID ALL OF THAT.

Can’t disagree with your assessment. There really have been artistes who seem to just copy him without any originality to their work, but I wonder if it’s really that, or MJ’s level was so high that he just covers everything.

BET I really hope this tribute doesn’t turn into a freaking embarrasment for MJ, his fans, his Family, and BET. This is rather last minute, don’t just throw stuff together. I even heard JayZ was performing, whats he gonna do? We need to be considering people like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Diana Ross, a lot of the “OLD SCHOOL SINGERS.” I mean Beyonce is popular but we talking about Michael Jackson. I think Usher, Chris Brown, and Justin Timberlake are good picks but we need to get better people to go with them.

Damn why does it have to be all about Chris Brown?
It really doesnt matter who does what, as long as they acknowledge him right.
What they SHOULD do is something to TOGETHER, I think Michael would have liked if all these artists but their beef and competition away for a night and do a song together, Thriller would be fitting. But Im not getting my hopes up with BET.

You are right. There should be a mix of old school singers too. That is a very good list of folks. I just figured BET would use the ones that are already in the show but the old schoolers would turn that place out. Stevie, Babyface, Whitney, Patti, Eddie Levert…

I agree with some of y’all who are saying that people were talking bad/slick about Michael Jackson before he passed! Seriously, I was thinking that ever since he died. All the comedians, and remember Eminem dissed Michael and no one came to his side and only BET stopped playing M’s videos because Michael had asked them to. Now I have to admit, I have not been boo hoowing over this because I lost interest in him due to his strange lifestyle, but I do realize that he did have a big influence over many people in music. Anyway I am extremely excited about watching the BET AWARDS now, I wasn’t even gonna watch it before MJ died. Everybody who is going to perform his songs only had yesterday and today to make something up. The costumes, song choice, going over the lyrics, dance moves, that sh*t is CRAZY! I wanna know how they will be able to pull it off with such notice. Now I aint no fan, but Chris Brown is definitely gonna kill it! He’ll probably do Beat it or Billie Jean! I wannna see him do Billie Jean!!!

It’s not all about who can sing the best. Michael and his siblings loved to sing, dance, and just perform and be on stage. So even if some think Chris, Ciara, Rhianna, or whoever aren’t good singers it doesn’t matter. It only matters that Michael inspired them to do what they love to do.

You guys should think more like Michael he is not picky at all he does not care who gives the tribute to him he will just be grateful that there are a lot of people who love him and support him as well as look up to him!!!! In that note you guys should stop basing it on who can dance better, sing better, or who is just plain hot right now because if that’s the case all those artist are just trying to make themselves look good it should be artist who actually want to do it because they care for Michael, love him, didn’t believe the whole crap about what the media had to say about him, didn’t dog him or any other stuff like that!!!! Not artist who just want to make themselves look good, trying to get more credit to add to their resume, attention seekers, or getting more ratings nor trying to boost their careers!!!

A lot of ppl need to just stop the hating.
This is not a personal attack towards anybody but the whole Chris Brown woman beating thing should not come into play. I think everybody is just looking for a reason to hate on him and now they’ve found it.
I’d like to point out that Chris had previously done a tribute in 2007 to Michael JAckson’s Thriller and often incorporates a lil bit of Michael in his performances.
Ciara does the same.
It bothers me that ppl don’t think these two artist belong in the lineup when they most embody what Michael represented which is stage presence and showmanship. They have that, they should perform and they will.

I’ve read all of the posts here and I have quite a few things to say;
@ 193 Steupz - Chris Brown attending the awards does not mean Rihanna cannot attend, they just have to stay 10 feet away from eachother I believe it is.
Also, in the earlier posts people were saying how people should not be tired of hearing or reading about Michael Jackson but honestly, I am a HUGE Michael Jackson fan, although I am quite young (I’m almost 18) I still remember times when I was like 7 and 8 years old listening to Michael Jackson songs with my family in the car and singing every word or playing it in the house and singing along to it as well and I wouldn’t say I’m tired of seeing Michael Jackson everywhere but I would like to see other stuff. I am the kind of person who tries to “mourn” quickly I guess you could say. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday my mom and I played Michael Jackson music non stop and watched every tribute they played on tv and it just made me remember how great he was and how great his voice was and how he’ll never be able to sing again and it made me sad. Then we started playing “You Are Not Alone” and I teared up a bit cause the song is already sad but now that Michael is no longer alive it made me reflect on his death a bit more. Today my mom, dad, and sister were listening to Michael and I left the room because I can’t stand to hear him anymore, I don’t take death very well - but hey, who really does?
Also, I used to be a Chris Brown fan but after the Rihanna incident I kind of stopped liking him. Although I’m not a fan of his anymore I do think he would be a good person to perform a Michael Jackson song because of his DANCE MOVES not because of his singing.
I think old school people like Stevie Wonder, Boys II Men, Patti Labelle etc and other artists such as Christina Aguillera, Ne-Yo, and Usher would be great. I don’t see how Ciara would be a great addition and I definitely don’t see how Rihanna would be a good choice but oh well.

Also, to the person/people saying how no one knows if Chris Brown, Usher, and other artists could be as big as Michael cause it is possible they could be “almost” as big as Michael - it is impossible.
No one, and I’ll “type” it again - no one, can achieve as much as Michael has achieved in his short lifetime. Everyone has fond memories of Michael whether they’re recent memories or childhood memories .. everyone loved Michael at some point in their lives. I was watching CNN and other news channels and white, black, brown you name it - people of all races were crying over Michael and sharing their memories. No artist out today is as well liked as Michael was. Especially back then when people listened to more genres of music. Nowadays, you either love rap or hate rap, love hip hop or hate hip hop. I was listening to Fabolous and other artists say how they hope to be as big or achieve as much as Michael one day but they don’t have enough fans nor will they ever have enough fans to do so.
Michael’s Thriller album is #1 on iTunes .. he’s achieving more and more even when he is no longer alive (which was kind of expected).

To me actions before his death means 100% than actions after Michaels death. Mirah Cary sung “I’ll be There” she paid homage to him all the time prior to sinnging his song. After Beyonce made that diarrhea statement about the Jackson’s Family she should not be a part of anything. period. I am sure the Jackson’s Family was highly offended. I just want to know was anyone of these celebrities that werte crying was at his side during the trials? Hell naw! They would not be caught dead near Mike. mike was Blackballed so bad he had to go to Europe and clear his head. My God, such a cruel world. Now folks wanna scream and hollar his name after he is gone. All I am saying honor people when they are alive. Jesse Jackson Al Sharpton and others were at his side…All I am sying please i hope these celebrities dont make this out of a “comeback” or publicity stunt . I hope their heart is in it too…

THE TOP 3 SELLING ARTISTS OF ALL TIME ARE THE BEATLES, ELVIS PRESLEY, AND MICHAEL JACKSON.

THEY ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE! PEOPLE LIKE YOU BRAG ABOUT HOW MANY ALBUMS BEYONCE SOLD ON THIS SITE ALL THE TIME AND HOW MANY MILLIONS SHE EARNED. Y’ALL SAY NO ONE IS ON HER LEVEL…THEN YOU SAME PEOPLE COME AND SAY THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR OTHER ARTISTS (LIKE CHRIS BROWN) TO BE AS BIG AS MICHAEL IN THE FUTURE..(HE SOLD ALMOST A BILLION RECORDS!) IN FACT HE WILL BE OVER A BILLION THE WAY HIS STUFF IS SELLING NOW THAT HE IS GONE!
HOW CAN YOU REALLY BELIEVE CHRIS BROWN WOULD BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THAT KIND OF SUCCESS?? YOU NEED A PSYCHIATRIST TO HELP WITH YOUR DELUSIONS! WHEN CHRIS SELLS OVER 100 MILLION WITH ONE ALBUM THEN YOU CAN PUT HIS NAME UP FOR DISCUSSION AND DEBATE.
UNTIL THEN IT WILL REMAIN THE BEATLES, ELVIS PRESLEY, AND MICHAEL JACKSON!

Your being really clever with your words but that’s exactly what’s happening. I never had time for the whole mess and I would never respect any man that would do what he did, I also lost respect for Rihanna. The whole thing is shady. It is now all about the next publicity stunt, fake couples and so on. That’s why no one is ever going to sell like Michael again.

For everyone else who I didn’t call out directly, I think Chris Brown and Chris Brown only needs to do the tribute to Michael. If they want Bey in it, she can introduce the next song or something, but CB is the closest anyone is going to get to Michael’s moves, performance….and well his voice.
Now don’t take that the wrong way cuz Chris is no Michael, but Chris is extremely talented and he is as close as anyone will get. If they don’t allow him to perform, it will be like watching regular people do MJ’s hits cuz no one can dance even close to the stuff MJ was doing other than CB…Maybe Usher can get in on one song while CB takes a break or something. Other than that, the rest of the celebritites just need to sit and watch.

@ 215 good point
there are many talented children who aren’t celebrities that would pay a great tribute to MJ, unlike CB and the others whose egos can kill…..

Let me just say, I was an 80’s baby and I grew up on MJ and some of the younger people may not just truly understand his impact. Like someone said, he created the blueprint. He did that before Jay-z could even spell blueprint..lol. But seriously, MJ was and is untouchable. I hope that all of the negative talk about his PERSONAL life is just left alone. The man is gone. Let his soul rest in peace. He deserves that much.
As far as Chris Brown, who but MJ would love to see this young man have a chance to redeem himself. I’m too old to be a Chris Brown fan, but he deserves a second chance and I think MJ, who was so scrutinized and so judged, would smile upon Chris paying tribute to him. I personally look forward to seeing Chris, if he is truly going to perform. I for one, I’m mostly interested in the awards show this time around bc I know that the tributes will be good!

Oh, and here’s what I would like to see as far as a Tribute:
SWV-Human Nature( of course)
Boyz II Men-Lady In My Life (it was sampled by LL on Hey Lover and they did the hook)
Chris Brown-well I’m Bad and Beat may not be a good PR move, or Smooth Criminal, so maybe Thriller
Beyonce-Man in the Mirror (She has the vocals and I just want to get one more good cry in off this song)
Neyo-Billie Jean of Don’t Stop ‘Till You Get Enough
New Edition- PYT or a Jackson 5 song(come on, they were Jackson 5 “Juniors” in the 80’s and I loved them growing up as a kid in the Chi!)
Mariah-I’ll be There (since she’s already done a remake)
Also, I would love to see someone do Just Can’t Stop Loving You, You Rock My World, and Definitely Want to Startin’ Something (Beyonce could pull this off with a great choregraphed act and great dancers)

I doubt the BET Awards show will feature a bunch of artistes doing covers. That’s as unreasonable as it is unlikely.
But if we’re simply fantasizing, then I’d like to see Heather Headley do ‘Stranger in Moscow’

I will give Eddie and Don a pass for being old,Don took me back to that In living Color bit The Old Train, lmao.Ving…no words.BET should have just went on with their show as planned, because they set the bar so low,and was so classless that even the CEO was trying do some damage control at the end.I don’t know what was more saddening,Mike’s death or the coonery that is the 2009 BET AWARDS.I did like Neyo and Jonny Gill,Ty and Trey.

No they pulled him out the last minute. Supposedly because of Al Sharpton. IDK that’s what I heard. Ne-yo and Jamie Foxx performed all night! Beyonce was boring as hell too. Watch the review from the Skorpion show. He was right on point.

Neyo and Janet were the closest thing to a tribute
Beyonce did her tour performance but I think she did the right thing I’m starting to realize that she’s not very spontaneous.
Nas was right when he said hip hop was dead the bet awards proved that. Every now and then you get a little hope but overall some of those grown men need to be ashamed of themselves it’s time to stop with the sagging pants and fake chains, in the real word young kids need to get an education. I like Michele Obama’s speech when she said “I enjoy being smart” I don’t know if I can post the link but here it is. It’s worth the watch I was struggling through my second year at Uni when I saw this and it definitely inspired me. wait for her to get past the first 5 mins though.

No class, SMH.
Jamie was just ridiculous. Inappropriate jokes; and they weren’t even funny.
Beyonce sang well, but the costuming just ruined it. Soulja boy wasn’t too bad, but his personae was just wrong. (You couldn’t wear something decent for Michael??)
And all of these low-class jackasses in t-shirts and dumb ass jewelery.
Fadder Lawd, Michael shoulda died today.

I am disapointed at BET, honestly I expected more, however, that was not the case. I’ve seen more horaries on other channels such as vh1, cnn, msnb than I have on BET. And the award in his nor sucked. Should and could have been alot better. I think BET should do something else to honor him aside from the rediculous awards, which had no content. I am upset and will turn off BET in my house for good, unless the station does MJ justice.

I was very please that BET honored the Legend, Michael Jackson at the BET Awards 2009..I was vey upset that Christ Brown did not get the opportunity to perform..I do not know how true it is that Jay-Z threaten to boycott the award show had Mr. Brown performed..It was not about Jay-Z..PERIOD..It was about what Michael meant to US as a RACE as a CULTURE..Christ is nineteen what he did was wrong but who made JAY-Z GOD..I wanted to see Christ dance and just see what Michael’s legacy had left on the next generation..I am a mother of three sons and I would not want someone to block my sons from their dreams..My heart goes out to Rihanna..What BET did was WRONG and I was deprived of a performance due to J-Z EGO..What explaination does he have for pushing the South African Woman in the face with no shame..Google it up to view the video..May Michael Rest in Peace WE will all ways LOVE and HONOR your legacy..

BET should have been ashamed of themselves to call the fiasco the other night a tribute to Michael Jackson. I thought that I was going to see performances by Chris Brown, Usher and Chris Tucker. These are the people who should have been included in a tribute as they have worked so hard to follow in Michael’s footsteps with song and dance. The tribute to the O Jays and Maxwell were the only presentable acts they had. And I was totally disgusted with that piece of filth that was presented by LiL Wayne and those underaged little girls. I felt sorry that Janet Jackson had to grace the stage behind that disaster. To thank BET for what they had done must have been one of the most difficult things she’s ever had to do. What a dis-service to a mega star like Michael Jackson. I now remember why I stopped watching BET.

Look at the pic on the Time mag cover and the wallpaper photo on this site of him as kid with the hat on, the smile is still the same, simply beautiful. For all the changes he made to his face on purpose in an attempt not to look anything like his father, his gorgeous smile never changed. That’s what I’ll always remember about Michael. Yes, I do think his father is just creepy with all his grinning all over the place as if he just won an award and is loving people paying attention to him as if with Michael gone he can now get some spotlight at his son’s expense. He never looks like he’s in pain over his son’s death.
His family esp. Janet looks distraught, but he doesn’t. Michael still has the last laugh since he cut Joseph (never even allowed to call him dad) out of his will and I’m glad he did. This is what happens when parents push too hard then the world takes over and you never get a moment of peace to yourself. In all, I’m glad Michael was an icon, a Black man who accomplished more than any other entertainer in history starting from nothing. He will never be forgotten. Now his ex-wife (yeah right), she was never his wife, she was a surrogate only, wants the kids to get his money now that Michael purposely cut her out of his will too.
Diana and Katherine (his mom) should share custody of the kids so they will have their grandmother in their lives as Michael wanted and so Diana can raise them normally since his mom is advanced in age and the kids still have their nanny since birth. Diana is uber rich (more money than Michael) since her late husband was a Billionnaire (a shipping tycoon) and doesn’t need the money so she won’t have an ulterior motive. His ex should get nothing and def. not the kids since she said (just days ago) she and Michael never had sex, she was impregnated artifically kind of like she does her horses when she breeds them, and that she never wanted the children and never visited the children and was paid…….$9 million dollars over 9 years for custody. They don’t even know her. The money goes where the kids go, you do the math as to why she wants them now! The oldest two are possibly hers (some think the eggs were donated and she’s not the biological mother either), but the youngest isn’t hers and she would be splitting up brothers and sisters (they’re siblings even if they aren’t blood). She said she’d be willing to take the youngest one too (money with that one too).
Janet once said that she didn’t want kids because she was afraid she’d treat them like her dad treated them. Finally someone who is honest enough to know they shouldn’t have kids. More people should do that.
Finally, Michael had a 50% interest in Sony I think (the Beatles, Jonas Bros. Bob Dylan) and many others, much, much money there and it will go on forever as long as their music is put out his kids will get more and more, every time anybody samples any of those songs, the kids will get paid. I hope they get a chance at a normal life. Michael, RIP

Janet should have knocked the hell out of Beyonce at the BET awards since she was distraught over Michael, no one would have blamed her! Just a few months ago (for no reason) she said her family didn’t grow up poor like the Jackson’s, her dad had a Jag when she was growing up and had money and DIDN’T HAVE TO PIMP THEIR KIDS TO MAKE MONEY LIKE THE JACKSONS! Beyonce is a B****! She should have felt like a fool and ashamed of herself doing a tribute to Michael with Janet there. Her time will be over soon because she will never be like Janet and will never achieve Michael status and if she thinks her family is different, how does she think her dad got rich and her mom got her clothing line (Miss Tina) and Solange got her record deal, all due to Beyonce’s popularity and money and Destiny’s child was no more than a way to showcase Beyonce, it wasn’t a real group, that’s why Kelly Rowland fired Beyonce’s dad as her manager. She said her dad will never look out for her like he does Beyonce since that’s his daughter and she’s right. Now that she left him, she’s got a number one overseas and is making bank. B and Jay think they are all that, they need to disappear. You can tell when people start to believe the hype about themselves!

No. 31 CJ: That’s why I’m saying! Read my comment (Lynn 7/2/09) w/details about Beyonce’s diss to the Jackson family. I agree B is a B and should be ashamed of herself and it would have been the perfect moment for Janet to whip her tail and NOBODY would have said a word or blamed her and we could have called it due to stress over her brother’s death.

I was not defending Chris Brown, he has his attorneys for that role. I was simply saying let’s not use this sad occassion to condemn the boy. You didn’t agree with my opinion, that’s alright but we can still agree the Michael Jackson favored CB as an artist that’s all I was trying to say. I though your comment about a West Indian woman defending a man who mollywopped a Bajan Gyal was so funny! Doh dig nuttin’ eh
