I was up at the break of dawn just to hear this speech for myself before the political pundits and talking heads gave their versions of the speech. I must say President Obama did a good job of addressing many issues in the Muslim World with this speech. He showed respect for Muslims without looking weak and he made it clear that America is not at war with Muslims but Islamic Extremist (opposed to terrorists). I believe the overwhelming majority of Muslims are not extremist just like the majority of any religion aren’t extrmist. I think Osama bin Laden is fearful that the President’s speech (and actions) of Hope and Unity will undermine his mission to portray all Muslims as enemies of America. I’m glad the President also made it clear that a speech cannot fix the relationship between the Muslim World and the US in one day. but it will take actions and policies to complete the process. Overall I gave him a B+

But I love the manner in which Obama has diverted from this course. He has no qualms about calling Israel out when they are wrong. Unlike the previous Administration that over glorified Israel and in their eyes believed Israel could do no wrong. Obama has taken a different approach…some might see it as being apologetic and they are right. America has to apologize to the Muslim because the Bush Administration has demonized them for 7 years. Yes, all terrorists, as we know them today, are Muslims, but not all Muslims are terrorists. Bush did not make that distinction; instead of going to war with the terrorists he went to war with Islam. He and Cheney used Orwellian tactics to poison the minds of the American people, but in doing created more enemies in the Muslim world. So now it is up to Obama to right all the wrongs and in doing so, have to make it clear that our beef is not with Islam but with the perpetrators of 9/11.

I for one never agreed to the hype of Obama. Do I think he is smart? yes! Do I think he would make a good leader? yes! but for the most part number three is right. The only thing is people was mainly voting for Obama because he was black. One has to be an adult here and look at American history and not so much Obama. If he cared so much for the Islamic world. He would bring those troops home immediately; since Cheney has came on record last week saying Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. When I did my study on Muslim and why they attacked America. It wasn’t because they were terrorist at all. They simply was attacking for revenge on what our government is doing in their country, unbeknown to the American public. America needs and depends of cheap oil. Saudi Arabia is one of the main supplier; so the corrupted leaders are evil, money hungry, and not well liked or respected. The masses of people want the house of Saudi, H.Mubarak, and Gaddafi of Libya gone. They take the money for their own gain and use, they dont give to the masses of poor people. Now, they have bribe America with the strongest army to come and protect them, for cheap oil. America has sided with the bullies of the Middle East to continue to torture and rape their own people. Why aren’t people talking about this? If Obama brought China and it’s army into America to subdue the masses and torture and rape, and steal on a grand level. Do you think it’s fair for the America people to attack China? Yes, because China should stay in China and let the people choice who they want as their leader. They shouldn’t be allowed to go and police another country for cheap oil. When black men was being lynched in this country, we as blacks didn’t call the men who fought back “terrorist” but the perpetrator- The white man-himself would call any black man who stood up to them “public enemy” and so the stories repeats it’s self again in American history.

I can respect your opinion/beliefs. No one is trying to absolve America from any wrong doing, believe me I know, I served this country in two branches of the military and been to two wars. My argument in the above comment was that America NEEDS to apologize to the Muslims and NEEDS to mend the divide created by Bush for demonizing the Islam; and that is exactly what Obama is trying to do. Everyone knows America was in bed with Bin Laden and gave the Mujahedeen guns and ammo to fight the Soviets. But, the fact of the matter is America has to defend itself. If you as an individual did someone wrong and they go to your house and attack your family for revenge, would you call it even? I would hope not. The masterminds of 9/11 need to be killed but we have to make a clear distinction between the perpetrators of WTC bombing and the Muslim community.

He said what they did was legit(by attacking back) because of what the American government do to them in their own countries. I applaud President Obama for taking the first steps to bridge the gap between Muslim nations and the U.S. I was also pleased with his analogy of the Civil Rights movement here in the states and the change that came in a non-violent way at suggesting what promise can be made if some reverse their thinking.

If I should engage you in conspiracy theories, we would be blogging for two years straight…lol. Whether Bin Laden is a freedom fighter or terrorist depends on which lens you are looking through. I am pretty sure Scott Roeder feels like what he did was for a great cause, but Dr. Tiller’s friends and family may think differently.
When I listened to Obama’s speech, the first thing that jumped out at me was, he is trying to be the Beacon of hope and prosperity.
Obama wants to let the Muslim community know he understands their reason for the mistrust in America and that they need to cast anger away because he represents a brand new day. He represents the new America; an America that will be respectful, but no weak. As the man said in his inauguration speech…a nation’s strength isn’t measured by how many countries it destroys but how many it builds. But in order for both countries to move forward we have to realize that we are indeed tomorrow’s keepers, a nation of bright thinkers. And together we will be mighty, fearless, and triumphant in the face of the true evil that not only threatens the welfare of the West but theirs also.
If anyone sees a problem with that they need to check themselves for a pulse.
We need to keep our eyes and ears open in our own communities! In the past two months — 5 Muslim Americans, ALL Black men, have caused terrorist acts right here in the USA. In New York, 4 Black Muslim men planted bombs, at a synagouge, to try to blow up the synagogue.
In Arkansaw, another Black Muslim, gunned down two US soldiers at an Army recruiting center, as they stood outside the building. One of the US soldiers, was a Black man, he died after being shot by this Black Muslim, who was out to kill as many US soldeirs as he could! — Disgusting!
We African-Americans need to be conscious that among the good, and decent Muslims that live here in America, there are also evil ones, who are out to harm others!
We, in the African American community need to make sure that we keep our eyes, and ears open, and take seriously ANY threats we hear spoken by others, about harming another human being. AND when we hear of those plots, we MUST CALL THE AUTHORITIES AND REPORT IT !
That Black Muslim in Arkansaw, who gunned down that Black US soldier, did not care who he was shooting at with his automatic rife, when he drove drove past the Army Recruiting center, shooting. That Black Muslim was out to kill whoever was in that Army Recruiting building — and he turned out to have shot, and killed a black soldier, who had joined the US army to protect America, to protect the citizens of this country. That soldier was shot, and killed in cold blood, as he stood outside the Army Recruitment Center.
WE African-Americans CANNOT ignore these facts, and we cannot close our eyes to the fact that some ( a small amount), of Black Muslims, who were born, and raised, right here in the USA: can turn out to be very, very dangerous people, and they do not care about which Americans they harm, what their skin color looks like, that Black US soldier, working at that Army recruitment center found that out when he was shot, and killed. So DO NOT stay silent when you know that someone plans to harm other human beings!

When he was in Egypt everyone in the audience gave him a standing ovation…that would not have been the case with past presidents….I hate that someone else has made me look like a bad person so YEAH to Obama for trying to repair our relationships with other countries.
I was fortunate to catch the speech live in England. As said previously, I wanted to gauge my initial thoughts on the speech before the commentators put their spin on it.
Obama’s quotations from the Quran and the Bible showed his respect for the Muslim and Christian faith, his use of the former is unprecedented. This is the kind of step that mends the mutual distrust between our communities.
Obama’s challenge to both communities to be constructive partners for peace confronted the Middle East crisis head on.
This speech has set the tone for a new world order.
