Good find. I like her a lot. I like the reference made by Ernest, at the top. The person who said a black Regina Spektor. I agree. Maybe that’s why I like her.

Spoken like somebody who doesn’t have a broadened sence of music, how do you compare Gnarles Barkley, to her, they have two entirley different styles going on, why would she need to encompass those aspects in order to be successful.

Hell Gnarles Barkley wasn’t even as successful their second time around, but they have a strong central fanbase and so can she.

PUHHHLEASE!!!!!!!

I am definitely feeling her. She’s what I call, a breath of fresh air. Unique, beautiful &
very very talented. I can definitely see her going very far, as long as she stays true to herself, because “LORD KNOWS” that’s what we viewers need, something new, something fresh, something different from the rest. I put her in the same “TALENTED CATORGORIE” with Norah Jones & my favorite, Amy Winehouse.

YOU GO GIRL!!!

I WILL MOST DEFINITELY BE COPING YOUR ALBUM, YOU GOT MY VOTE!

its only a matter of time before she’ll be just like all other mediocre artists’. they said drake was unique. now the industry has gotten to him & now he’s a good ol’ commercial rapper/singer!!. and i say that with sarcasm. lets hope the same doesnt happen to her. i actually like her because of her play on words, and i love the acoustic guitar. capital records, do us a favor? dont tarnish the young girl and make her a product! puhleeze!!!!

thx!
cant see the video; at work suxx :(

Now this is some ish I can get with!

This is what Rihanna wishes she was. Alternative-Pop at it’s best. yeah, Bey can take lessons too. This is real pop talent. Proud to have a sista with real talent. Record Labels, take note! Amilli views with no booty shake nor Gucci, Prada fashionista bullish to fool listeners.

Amilli views means people are thirsty for real joints. If I hear another pop contrived song from Rhiwhatever and Bey one more time……

Keep bringing more real talent. Black artist need to start doing better. Killing music with that “the right look” stuff. Men flaunting their abs for stupid ladies to scream about “he fine crap” and women in bikinis on album covers is plain stupid and so 2008.

I regress…Where is this chick from?

Real musician!

Friday, July 17, 2009 /

Her voice and song is sooo sweet and innocent I think her appeal will cross all boundaries from the teeny boppers , parents and grandparents alike.
I am really tired of the foul lyrics, sexually suggestive moves, fake hair, cosmetically altered faces and bodies.
Can we have a real, intelligent black female musician for a change?

86.

I Cant Help IT ( I love u Mike)

Friday, July 17, 2009 /

I dont think Rihanna or Beyonce has to take lessons from her. Everybody has their own style and singing. Not everybody wants to be pop or neo-soul or alternative.
Whats the point of originality if people have to be like one other in order to please certain people. Thats not original, thats just being an appeaser.

Beyonce nor Rihanna nor Priscilla should have to compromise who they are because SOME people dont like them. They should do what makes them feel good and happy. Black women and black people in general have enough swagg and talent to head and lead into any genre, whether it just be one genre or multiple. Lets step outside the box.

Friday, July 17, 2009 /

The song is very creative, but I hope thats not the final version. The music sounds fully produced, while her voice sounds like its from a demo tape. Also, she sounds a lot like Corinne Bailey Rae, which could be a good thing, or a bad thing. And please tell me that Video is not the Official release version. That Video is WEAK!!!
If u can’t introduce a new artist with a better Video than that, then u need to just not even do one, and just focus on the CD.

104.

i knew it! i used to watch her vidz all the time on youtube. She’s the third person from youtube i deemed was gonna get signed. I should be a freakin a&r lol.

Friday, July 17, 2009 /

I would categorize her as Indie instead of Pop or Soul … not that it matters. Good music is good music.
And there’s not a thing wrong with her “look”. She doesn’t need to be half naked or have a weave down to God knows where to be successful. She’s a young woman that hopefully our youth can relate to and be inspired by. Blessings to you Priscilla Renae.

Here we go, The girl isn’t even signed yet and we are already comparing her to Rihanna and Beyonce. As if they have anything to do with her. This just shows how the abundance of originality in the music industry has just gotten narrower and narrower. I do agree that artists tend to unknowingly sacrifce their originaltiy the minute they sign with a huge record label. You can’t really blame the artist. The music business is very tricky within it’s marketing schemes. They have to keep their audience into perspective and when we have such discerning viewers/listeners, they have to market something appealing to them which is why this song might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Unfortunately the listeners prefer mediocre and senseless rubbish like soulja (who also came from youtube) which is hard to believe. When rihanna first started out, she had a very carribbean edge to her tone of voice and style which is what kept me interested which over the years in opinion she has lost.

@ Sabrina. You clearly don’t understand the content. And what is your interpretation of too different?. You sound so ignorant naive with your perspective of music in general. You clearly don’t have a broadened knowledge of the industry. The song doesn’t need so much passion. It’s the delicacy and simplicity of the song that gives it it’s beauty and elegance. It was smoothe and flowed very well. If you were a music fan, then you would know that not all music needs the uttermost passion and that that’s how some artists came about. (It isn’t rocket science) I am not convinced that you even listen to music from what you have written. Musically, you sound very uneducated. For you to call her mediocre from listening to just one of her songs is ignorant.

I really love her music. It is really a breath of fresh air. It’s diverse, creative and she is very versatille. It is rare i see a young woman be so creative on her own with different genres of music. This is definetly what the industry needs but it might not agree with. Bless her heart, I hope they don’t try and transform her into a beyonce and rihanna.

I agree w/ #105, she’s not alt./pop she’s more INDIE POP. Alt./pop is someone like Lily Allen. This girl has a sound of “sweet” and simplistic music which is identified more w/ indie pop. Alt./pop has more of an edge since it’s derived from pop & rock subgenres. In a nutshell, it’s all under the “alternative” umbrella tho so I guess it doesn’t matter lol. I think some of ya’ll were mislead by the “pop/soul” label in the OP. I digress; I think the song is nice BUT since I’m not really into indie pop it isn’t my cup of tea. Her song “Cry” is tho; I like that. If you’re looking for something more “pop/soul” you might wanna hit up Little Dragon. She’s not black (she’s actually swedish-asian) but it should matter for you to give her a listen. Think J*DaVeY….
