CNN’S ‘BLACK IN AMERICA 2′

CNN continues its investigation of the challenging issues facing African-Americans with its series, “Black in America 2″, hosted by Soledad O’Brien and featuring people who are using new, innovative solutions to transform the black experience.

The first part, “Tomorrow’s Leaders”, aired last night and tonight’s “Today’s Pioneers” premieres at 8 and includes the story of actor/director Tyler Perry, the first African-American with a major film/TV studio and his initial battle with Hollywood. 4. MY LOVE AUDEN

I am very proud of Mr. Perry. I am from the Caribbean and we go wild for his movies and plays. He is a great example to everyone, not blacks alone. As Tyra said when others put walls up we should gather strength to fight EVEN HARDER TO ACHIEVE WHAT WE WANT.This is very inspiring. I actually got a chance to pass by his studio when I was in Georgia. I will be watching too. LOVE YA.

  14. TOONS

Whats the point of these docs? The first one did nothing but present statics and give no solid solutions. It basically reinforced all the negative stereotypes other races have about blacks. The second one is basically doing the same thing in a different fashion. Its just a way for CNN to recruit more black viewers, and for Soledad to get some shine, who btw isn’t even black. And their methods worked because now its a trend to watch CNN, which is exactly the same as FOX just on opposing ends of the political spectrum working towards the same goal.

Now theres a Latino in America. What next Korean in America? Next thing you’ll know they’ll have a White in America.

  15. WHATEVERMAN

Soledad’s legs was the best thing about the show.

  16. PAT

last nite was ok….i really dont feel like it really shed light on a lot..i guess i had a different expentancy

  17. Ladyssolady

#15, I agree w/you. I think all aspects should be shown, and not just from one extreme to the other. I just think when people of other races watch this, is is this all they are getting because this is not a snapshot of all of us. By the way, Soledad is white and black.

  18. wilkes

soledad is the epitome of wifey material

  19. PYTMissyouMichael

@15 I agree all aspects shold be shown but I am not going to say that the program wasn’t good cuz it was and Soledad is Afro-Cuban and Austrailian so I’m sure her background had something to do with why she did this project.

  20. Come on ya'll

to Tjack25 . . . you should be able to go online and watch the first one. But, as for last night, it was very good and Mr. Steve Perry is a trip, but it is nice to people achieve their goals and have 100% of the students go to college.

I am definitely tuning in tonight to watch the second half of the show. Don’t forget about “Reclaiming America” in August.

  21. R U SERIOUS??? NEW DC SOCIALITE BUT MADE MY OWN MONEY

When is CNN going to put out White in America, I see next is Latino in America, Asians may be next but you know what would really be the BEST, NATIVE AMERICAN in America, underline, the real American. I am serious, lets review everyone plight in America, Okay the white one will be like 15 minutes and probably pointing fingers at minorities but hey they deserve some time too. No sorry I am just kidding but I would like to see the Native American story. AND NOPE I HAVE NO “INDIAN” in ME.

  22. TOONS

    @ LADYSSOLADY,

    She’s Cuban and Irish.

  23. Nopy

    @ Toons

She’s part Afro-Cuban (Black); She has nappy roots and what looks to be a perm.

  24. Nopy

Oh and she refers to herself as a “black woman.” She has interviews on Youtube.

  25. Babatunde

What is the point of this program? If it is for black people, then don’t they already know how they live in America?

If it’s for white people, is it supposed to change them?

    I don’t get the point.

  26. Raybin

As I sat and watched CNN’s Black in America 2 it reinforced what I already knew about being an African American. Everyday when I wake up and look in the mirror I know that I’m a African American woman and I understand the trials and successes of African Americans. I think that this show was more for whites and other races to see us in a different way but a show is not going to change the deep rooted hatred and ignorance of others and how they feel about Africnan Americans. I don’t think that anyone or any show can truely display all aspects of African Americans. I believe that only through the eyes of African Americans we will only understand all the aspects of our culture. Im not trying to put down the show because many parts of the show I did enjoy but I think the show should have discussed middle class African-Americans more.

  27. blackxxx

Tyler propagandises homo things….plus in his “black” movies too much white actors!

  28. Angie.Who

This show sucks!!! Let some real working class people whom we don’t see in the lime light speak. They are “equally” important, least to get recognize for doing hard work.

I’m not knocking celebrities, but be for real!! I want to see the teachers, nurses, and janitors and cooks the back bones of the communities. I don’t care for the “new rich” like that. I want to see the struggles of teachers to get good support from the communities. I want to see the “real black in America” let’s do that.

  29. halcyon

    @TOONS…completely agree!

  30. AMBER

I missed it but heard it was awesome ! and i like how this post hardly get comments but post something about they have hundreds SMH

  31. sarcasmic

IM NOT AFRICAN AMERICAN, BUT IT KILLS ME TO SEE THE RACE STILL HAVE TO STRUGGLE IN EVERY ASPECT AFTER SO MANY YEARS

I THINK FOR ONE EVERYONE NEEDS TO REMOVE “NIGGA” FROM THEIR VOCAB. FUCK THAT DIFFERENT MEANING SHIT…. IF IT MEANS “MY DUDE” OR “MY BOY” THEN SAY THAT!

  32. sarcasmic

AND U KNOW WHAT I HATE HOW EVERYONE CRITICIZES TYLER PERRY…

HE USES WEALTHY, EDUCATED BLACKS IN HIS MOVIES TO BREAK OUT OF THE STEREOTYPE..BUT IF HE DID USE “GHETTO, HOOD” PPL THEN EVERYONE WILL COMPLAIN THAT HE’S STEREOTYPING HIS OWN RACE…C’MON PPL NOTHING IS GOOD ENOUGH..EVER!

THIS IS WHY THE BLACK COMMUNITY CAN’T COME TOGETHER AND PROGRESS AS A WHOLE..CUZ OF EVERY OTHER PERSON BRINGING EACH OTHER DOWN AND CONTRADICTIONS.

AND MIND YOU I’M HISPANIC AND I FEEL THIS STRONG ABOUT IT, BLACKS SHOULD AS WELL.

  33. Cublktigress

    @ Sarcasmic…I co-sign and I’m black.
