Known to show up late for shows and then sings so quick, then the show is over!!! didn’t go to Essence this year, wasn’t feeling the line up of music acts. Solange was there last year!!! She hasn’t put nothing new out!!! Same folks at the convention center such as TD Jakes, and others.They need to spark it up a little and have more parties for folks who are down there to visit. The parties are horrible to get into!!! Either you are there at 8pm to get in or you don’t get in!!!

Maxwell will be 36 this year, if he isn’t already. Last time I heard, I thought he got married during his time off. Matter of fact, there was a pic of him on here not too long ago w/his ring on. He probably took it off as soon as he started promoting.

I was their last night, And it true that anita baker were call back on stage. she left the stage her band and singer looked suprise that she were leaving off the stage. She can back and sung about 20 mintue. Maxwell people had fix the stage for him to sing but he didn’t come on stage until 20 minute after the stage were ready. I love Maxwell But I had to leave because it was so late.So I left after he sung to song, Their were many fans sleep around me waiting for him to come on. I do believe that some of the other singers who stay on the stage to long. But he should have came on as soon his band was ready. still will be buying his cd on tuesday

I was there last night and Maxwell did not come out until 1:30AM. Anita was finished at 11:45 P.M . I even had to wait an extra 45 minutes earlier in the day for Maxwell at the Convention to sign my cd. There is no excuse. He was late. Anita had done an encore because Essence asked her to stretch the time. For those of your who were there last night know the real deal of Maxwell’s unexcusable tardiness. However, his sexy behind did make it up with his awesome and sensual performance. Yeah there’s a window or grace period for people who go over but the nearly hour wait or hour and a half including Anita’s encore was absolutely ridiculous. Still cop that BLACKsummers’ night though. He was totally worth the wait.

I was there Saturday night and around 2am I had to chunk the duce to Maxwell after he performed “This Woman’s Work”.

Does anybody know what time he got off stage? 3 or 4am? LOL

I saw Maxwell in Austin, TX on 6/30. He came out an hour after the first act, Laura Izibor completed her set. Izibor’s band (guitar & keys) consisted of herself and one other person! Not a lot of gear to breakdown at all. Now to the brother’s credit, he apologized when he came out and proceeded to put it down for what seemed like at least two hours. Additionally, he later said he injured himself (ribs) earlier in the day and didn’t even think he’d be able to perform.

Performers, promoters, roadies need to be conscious of the paying customers time, on the flipside WE need get somewhere, anywhere ON TIME!!! If concerts started on time half of us would miss the show! Y’all know I ain’t lyin’!!!!

Maxwell should have made a quick apology on stage, and everything would’ve been everything. Not everyone has Twitter. And he does look old in these pictures, but I will bet my money that it is JUST bad pictures. He is FINE!!! Can’t wait to see him in Atlantic City!!

Clearly most of you weren’t there. I was there. Maxwell was supposed to go on @ 11:45 pm.. already late but whatever, he went on stage @ 1:15am.. and YES I waited! Why? I LOVE Maxwell, BUT he should have at least told us what took so long! Anita is usually a DIVA, HOWEVER, she got off the stage in enough time to set up. Charlie sang a little over Anita’s 10pm start time, TRUE, but it didn’t even take Beyonce that long to set up and she changed background sets and all that stuff. She started maybe 30 - 45 minutes late (the day before, Friday). Maxwell pu on a great show - he has a voice from God.. but I left @ 2:30am and he was still singing. This next note might not be sure - as I wasn’t there and this is just what I was told, but apparently when other people left @ 3:15 am he was STILL singing.. so I can’t knock him for putting on a show but wow.. I WILL be buying his album, but I’m still upset about Saturday and that LAME excuse.

Oh!! And did any of you see Eric Benet’s Superlounge performance on Friday?! OMG!!!! If he and Maxwell went on tour together with Raphael Saadiq I’m waiting for the very second the tickets are released to purchase some. Lol.. Maxwell better hit the stage on time though.

after what he pulled at his afterparty on sat nite, i’m disappointed… I get that it’s not entirely your fault that your set was late but to refuse a picture to the fans that waited til 5am to see you at the club is wrong. let them know that you’re in the bldg at least so that way it don’t make it seem like the promoters lied bout him being there. it hurts the promoters brand and it made maxwell look bad

I was @ the essence festival on Saturday night too, and really wanted to see maxwell perform… however…for him to show up @ 1:30 AM… and start performing..after waiting to see him for more than an hour..is just inexcusable on his part…and i doubt he even apologized for his actions…. i think sometimes…these entertainers forget who makes them who they are… WE DO…. so.. of course..i bounced on his performance as well…ppl were tired and shit…. trying to wait on his azz to decide to hit the stage… ANITA was done @ 12:15 or so… there was NO EXCUSE for that mess…

I was there, but I had to attend another engagement , so I left in the middle of “This Woman’s Work”. The crowd that was there seemed to enjoy it, thoroughly. And for the commenter who said that people were “cold and tired”…COLD WHERE?!?!? It was hot as idunnowhat in Louisiana!

Naw, homey it was cold as hell in that dome after 12am. Once those bodies started exiting you could defiantly feel that A/C.

Exactly Willpwr.. The area I was in on floor was cold to me. TAJ, maybe you were closer to the stage and it was warmer there because of the lights, but that air was blowing on me.. lol And I had on clothing.. unlike a chick in a bathing suit (literally) I saw walking around.. smh.. I love Maxwell, and he sure can sing, but I felt the vibe and we were not amused by his tardiness.. He even said at one point “and to the men looking at me with their arms crossed…” those men were mad cause their women made them stay.. lol.. but Maxwell said he was setting them up for loving at the end of the night. who knows if he was successful since those same women most likely went back to their hotel rooms TIRED.. he didn’t get off the stage until about 4.. I just checked with a friend who stayed the entire time.. maybe next time I’ll see his entire performance :-/

I was there and stayed for the whole show. It was almost 4am when he ended and it took a while before he came on but he sounded beautiful and his band was on point so that made up for it. He looked as good as ever and put on a good show, however; a little more reserved than at his regular concerts. It was very cold in the super dome but once he came on, I did not even notice anymore! Also saw him when he signed my cd cover and he was very gracious to his fans.

I was @ the concert & yes he was late but I soon forgot about that once he started performing…he was all that & he didn’t look old from the close ups on the jumbos….my sisters who were in front of the stage also said he looked great up close and he also looked good @ the cd signing….I think he looks hella fine for a man approaching forty, considering the business.

I was THERE!. In fact I attended al 3 nights of the Essence Festival. Though many of the performers went over their allotted time (which pushed the follower a little late), Maxwell BY FAR took the cake! He let us sit and sit and sit - waiting on him. It was ridiculous and inexcusable. And he didn’t even offer an apology - which made it even worse. I am (or should I say WAS) a Maxwell fan, I was totally disappointed in him. After we waitied and waited, his show was weak to say the least. The Superdome was almost empty after his 2nd or 3rd song. He was too busy trying to push his soon to be released CD. I think if he had done a medly of his “new songs” sort of like a previw and then moved on to rock the house with the music we are familiar with - it would have been a BLAST. He did an old song then a new one, then an old song. He followed this throughout his show and he lost alot of the audience. The crowd really couldn’t get into the new stuff because no one was familiar with the new CD. Waiting to release the new CD AFTER ESSENCE, I think was a mistake. When he sang an old song, the crowd would go wild - but then he’d come right back with a new one - dropping us like a hot potato. He had to KNOW that he bombed out because the mass exodus was apparent. To me, MY OPINION, he was horrible. And yes, it was freezing in the Superdome. Once the crowd started leaving, it felt even COLDER!

Let me understand something:

The headliners were scheduled to go on at approx. 11:30pm. On Friday night, Beyonce’s show started @ approx. 11:30pm. Which means that ALL of the performers before her respected the time they were allotted, did their thing and got off the stage. Right? Right.

On Saturday, beginning with Charlie Wilson (if I’m not mistaken) the time schedule began 2 be ignored by the performers. Uncle Charlie went over and then Miss Anita Baker who should have been done around 11:15pm didn’t get off the stage(finally) until around 12:30am! Right? Right.

So that pushed Maxwell’s set back at least 1 hour through circumstances that were beyond his control. Right? Right.

Now I don’t know what Maxwell was doing from 12:30 to 1:15 when he finally hit the stage, but I find it odd that no one is holding Charlie and Anita accountible for going over their allotted time. Yes, yes I know…they are both legends in the game. But I didn’t think legendary meant unprofessional and inconsiderate.

Should Maxwell have apologized for the extra :45min delay…probably (although I don’t think an apology would have satisfied anybody). But don’t blame him b/c the people in front of him got carried away and dealt him a late hand.

It really sounds to me that Maxwell couldn’t win in this situation if he tried.

Are you kidding me? First of all Anita Baker came back because Essence asked her to when Maxwell was MIA! She didn’t even have songs prepared. She was asking the audience what they would like to hear. And she rocked it! Maxwell finally comes on over an hour after Anita got off the stage and then gave a sub par performance! He hadn’t even finished the second song and had to pause for water… And I was sooo through when he blew A Woman’s Work. He couldn’t hit the notes, so he just pointed the mic to the audience.

He did warm up as the night went on but by then most people were gone. Only die hard fans remained. But as a previous poster stated, you couldn’t get into the performance when you weren’t familiar with the songs!

And it was so cold I half expected to see some penguins waddling around the Superdome! The concert was over after 3am. I know he was disappointed because he doesn’t usually get walked out on. But he usually gives a great performance. Somehow he just wasn’t hitting it at Essence Fest.

Those that tripping over MAXWELL being late come on & him looking old post your picture up since you so FLY I like maxwells album probably the best come back after 7 years & concerts selling out you got to give credit where its due. & uh doesn’t it take time to set up a show….

I was at the Essence Music Festival, all three nights! Maxwell was extremely late by his own circumstances. He was scheduled to do a CD release party across the street from my hotel, Bienville House Hotel, at 10:45pm! and was scheduled to do Essence at 11:45pm, not realizing the traffic jams, I believe he got caught up and unless he was flying over to the Superdome, there was no way with that scheduling he would have made it on time. He didn’t arrive until around 1:15 or later. I caught a song or two as I was leaving after waiting so long. I think he “team” should be fired for scheduling the two events so close in time. Essence was the mega event, he should have don’t the release party after he performed at Essence, not before. Anyway, I still love his voice, but I am not going to pay XXX for the CD, I am going to bootleg it just on the strength that he didn’t offer up an apology for being late!

I showed up at the concert during Charlie Wilson performance(great btw), so I really don’t know who’s at fault. I do know the lineup was silly. Anita SHOULD have went b4 Charlie. She’s cool, but her act was putting me to sleep. As for Maxwell’s delay, I have no idea. I don know 1 thing, I stayed because I wanted to see this cat. My friend’s left after a few songs, but they had just recently saw him concert. It may have been late, but at 2:30 in the morning, this MF put it down. If I felt I needed to be somewhere else, I probably would have jetted, but i’m glad i didn’t. Now, it was cold up in there, especially wearing shorts and flip flops, but with that heat index outside in the 90s, it was refreshing for me lol. He did the dayum thing!! I think more people were crying about having to walk back from the Dome than the concerts lol.

This is unacceptable to his fans. People was in the stands sleeping. I saw him sing three songs and he never ackowledge what was going on and why he was late. Essence and Maxwell is responsible for the disaster of his fans. In addition, I thought Anita was buying more time for Maxwell to get ready. I don’t understand why the band took so long to set up, I did not see anything special or different about the stage that would had took more than an hour to setup. Everything was on track until it was Maxwell time. If Beyonce and her crew was able to get in and perform and be finished by 1, then Maxwell should been able to do so as well. Sorry to be so harsh, but my time and money is more important than his sorry excuse after the fact on Twitter.

First, lemme say I came for Maxwell. But dude was stretched out all over NO. I was there on side of the stage & his band wasn’t setting up the whole time. Homie wasn’t in the building. He had club appearances the same night he ws scheduled to perform, then when he finally got on, there was no energy (but I blame Anita for that, she drained me). Overall, he should have been in a superlounge. I love him but his show left much to be desired, especially when you consider the wait.
