I got a question,
I’m on some gay shit today. Same subject two different topics. But uh, why is it that some people seem to think John Legend is gay ? I hear people say his clothes or his demeanor , but I never here anybody say that about Robin Thicke, nor justin timberlake, and they all have the same theme going on.
Why is it when brothas wears fitted european style clothes and are into classical music, Maxwell, John Legend it’s gay but when white people do it, it’s cultured.

@#5 because a lot of ignorant ass black women are used to “saggers” who nearly trip over their baggy pants when walking, and who in some cases have to pull up their pants just so they can walk. when a man actually wears clothes that fit him properly, these ignorant, limited-thinking black women just don’t know what to think, so the brother must be gay. more: these same women don’t know how to appreciate a man who is clean-shaven, well-mannered, well-spoken, and (God forbid!) educated. for women who are so used to scraping at the bottom, a brother like john legend has got to be gay! sad, yes. but it’s the truth!

@ # 5
Plain and Simple black people are IGNORANT, Uneducated, and Uncritical. We have internalized this stereotype of what it means to be a macsculine black man (gang banging, womanizing, drug selling, hood negro) type. And anything that deviates from that we are quick to question. If a man wears tailored clothing, speaks properly, practices good grooming habits, dares do his OWN daughters hair, then we think he is gay.
The black community is such a freaking disappointment. If you look at any of the pictures of the Civil Rights movement those guys stayed dressed to impressed in fitted suits that were tailored and their hair were slicked back and fresh. The ignorant blacks today would call them all gay.

Because all three of them are gay. It’s commonplace for the white man to be effeminate, so no one makes note of it. Justin Timberlake has dressed in drag and put on high heels. No one cares because the white man has always been known as a crossdresser and a sexual deviant. Furthermore, there is nothing impressive about the way that the negroes in the civil rights movement carried themselves. The movement was centered around catering to the oppressor and appeasement of the white community in hopes that they would accept blacks into mainstream America like one would a stray dog into their house. If the civil rights negroes are to be used as an example; then there is validity to associating h*mosexuality with attire, because all of those guys were h*mosexual, particularly the leadership. They are the reason why these young black men and women are so bugged out today.

#5…I’m with you. To much ignorance, not enough knowledge…Let us not forget about all the downlow brothers…the ones dressing ‘hood’, pants saggin and all tryin to fit ‘in’. That should show some of these hungry females chasin hood wannabe guys that you should not be judging someone’s sex just because they are clean cut and fitted. There’s plenty of gay brothers that sag….
John looks fine to me btw =)

@ 5 it doesn’t have anything to do with his clothes IMO. I always thought it even from when he first came out. Over the years since the first album he’s butched it up, but I worked in PR for 15 years and know what that gives with questionable Black artists to deflect such rumors, so it’s nothing. The man makes good music so I don’t care either way, but I know a Black gay man when I see one and he has just always given me the vibe. If he’s not then hooray–’cause I want him LOL. Now, Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke just never hit my radar.

@5, it is simple———-> it’s because he is ACTUALLY GAY. Don’t be ridiculous. He has a hired model girlfriend and it is well known in the industry. Get a fucking clue!
Lil Wayne added skin tight jeans to his style and I did not see anyone calling him gay. Gay is something you ooze, not something you wear. It’s not openly accepted in 2009 for a male r&b artist to be GAY. Plain and simple. You think that only straight guys want to sing and dance and perform? Nothing is wrong with being gay, but get a clue! that’s is all I am saying!
Do you really think that a label is going to gamble and introduce a gay black artist to the black community at this time!? if so…we are making progress, but until then, as an artist, you have to put a smile on your face, collect as many pretty girls as you can, and make it look real. This is the industry. This is the reality.

21,
That ios bull, PR or not, no matter what you do for a living, you seem to be highly succeptable to the same things #’s 19 and 8 were talking about, that a black man sexuality is questioned if his image isn’t that of the stereo typical masucline african american, I.E. a thug, and your not going to convince me any different because I’ve been following johns career also and absolutley nothing about him has changed, if anything, he’s doing more ballads which I guess by your standard would solidify his being potentially gay.
And if you say you have supposed gaydar and Justin Timberlake, comming from a boyband mind you, never set off your so called gaydar, I’m gonna have to question your knowledge as to the subject, because that should have set your alarm off right there, but like I said earlier, their white so they can get way with breaking preconcieved notions on heterosexuality and what a man is suppsedly suppsoed to act like. Again despite the fact that Justin made his way through the industry wearing lipgloss and eyeliner and shit.
It’s rediculous even the singers have to be subjected to this R&B thug image other wise their considered gay. What ever with that, I’m riding with you john.
JUDAH
I’m convinced you are an afrocentric, conflicted closet case.

I knew those were his hands!
But ne who, even if John gives off a gay vibe, it has nothing to do with his clothes/ appearance. I love Hip Hop but one of the bad side affects of it is misinterpreting a man’s sexuality in the black community. If John was popular way back in the days of people like Belafonte and Cole, black people would not be so quick to see him as homosexual. I think the opposite applies for Alicia Keys, his counterpart. And really, if he is gay, that wouldnt make me enjoy his music any less.

I am a 40 year old single woman and it is not because I look for “thugs or boys”. I date grown men and grown meen have issues too. I am successful. Have my own place and car and raised my 18 year old son on my own. He is about to enter college while working on his music production. I don’t think it is just what women think is “their type”, it is that men have become accustomed to women not demanding respect. I am single because I demand an “old school” respect and men now-a-days would rather gravitate to those women who don’t respect themselves in THAT manner. Easy pickin’s…

@HEATHCLIFF - you get the point. Even if, Lil Wayne is not considered “highly questioned” as John is, not sure what world you are living in. As you can see, that is the first thing people think of when they see John, not w/ Wayne.
And if you don’t want to use him, pick another artist. The point is, the man just may be gay. And if he was, he would not come out and say it. SO, you can dismiss the rest, but it doesn’t change the facts. I need you to wakeup ‘09.
Me, nor my friends, call JT “cultured.” That is your opinion. And if you didn’t know that people thought that he could be gay, maybe your whole comment should be dismissed. How ’bout it?

U speak the cold harsh truth.
These women don’t know how to handle an educated, well-spoken and well dressed men. And they become bitter when guys like J.Legend dates only white women.
Even if J.Legend was gay (which i doubt) why should it be an issue? The guy is a musical genious as it is already.Thats all that should matter IMO.

@ 28, I think you meant 22 (me) LOL…sorry, again like I said, just always thought he was. I met him at least twice a year before the mainstream public was introduced to him, and a couple of years after his star rose, and got the same vibe. I’m not basing my opinions on his music, what he wears, etc. as you are. I’ve met JT several times, never got the impression from him. I’m fully aware that a look doesn’t determine your sexuality as gay men come in all types.

@Mr FAmu. I agree with you on so many levels. My son is a young embodiment of J.Legend. Just like John, he refuses to date these black women you speak of. This is why so many good black men date outside of their race. I try to break through the stereotype of the black woman as loud, nonfeminine, and etc., but for some reason many of our young black men are shying away from the young black women.

@Judah…You should post links or site your sources to support your commentary because the lack thereof makes u come of as a pontificating lunatic! However i would be impressed and greatful if you cited your sources of information so that i could look into it for myself
@Lulu I personally dont think you have 15 yrs of PR experience, You would have made a lot more sense besides getting a vibe from meeting someone , how high school!
@27 This discussion is about people like you! But its okay cuz, maybe Lulu (next time she “sees” him) can convince John Legend sing about f *cking every girl in the world and conviniently have 4 kids by 4 diff semi famous women….then he wont seem so GAY! And even if he is gay so is Elton John , ooops my bad heez white, them rules dont apply to blacks

#2 - Folks are off the hook with their homophobic gay speculation - just quit it!
#3 - Unless you’ve had hands on personal experience with a person, anything you say is conjecture
#4 - Please appreciate the real artists among us. “I want to f**k every girl in the world”, hood rat gangsta mysogynist salacious type songs are not art…they are not the business
