Rapper/singer/actor Drake spoke with MTV’s Sway during a short break at a gig in Pennsylvania and defended his infamous “Best I Ever Had’ video.
That career move was very important to me. We’ve done such a great job of building it all up. It’s kind of like people were getting this impression of me that I’m never gonna make a mistake. I’m not made of Teflon. I’m gonna do things for myself sometimes, as opposed to what people want me to do.
If you listen to the song, I’m not saying the most graceful thing in the world. It’s not the most heartfelt song,” Drizzy continued. “I say some pretty wild things in regards to women in the actual song. When me and Kanye were in the studio working on a song for Big Sean, we were talking about it. We saw a comedic element to it. I felt that the climate in the world right now, everything in the world is so serious all the time, my life is serious, I just wanted to laugh..

Well who really watches videos these days more than once.. I haven’t seen his video the whole way thru yet.. But I will see him next month.

that video was garbage, it wasn’t funny, didn’t match the song and was just horrible. As an avid fan of his, I expected more – but it is what it is. Hearing him try to defend it though, makes me wonder what is really going on in his head. How was it funny?

I use to really like drake especially his mixtape comeback season now not so much I’m in a neutral position when it comes to him as an artist and his music.
The video was not funny…I just want drake to stick to being him not be influenced by Kanye or Wayne to me those guys are played out. The whole reason I liked drake to begin with was because he was fresh, new and had a nice flow.

Bottom line the video was wack. I still love the song, and am still buying his record. Video’s don’t really have that much effect on if I like the song or not. I didn’t laugh at the video either, but I did understand what they were trying to do…..they just failed at it.

The video it had NOTHING to do with anything, not just the song. Sorry Drizzy. People keep saying not to let Kanye direct anymore vids. He directed John Legend’s “Ordinary People” and Common’s “Go” those video’s were just fine. Drake just wanted to make the video for the reasons he stated. I know a lot of my friends laughed when they first saw it, so it all depends on how you look at it and what you think is funny.
and btw me and my friends laughed at the stupidity and the hidden messages in some of those lines. The video was overall wack as hell.

I understand he didn’t want to make a typical R&B video. But I am beginning ot wonder about Drake. First of all, he is a good lyricist…but you couldn’t tell by this interview becasue his words and thoughts were all over the place. To me, he falls into the cookie cutter rapper image. Negro…you are trying to prove yourself. Now is not the time to experiement and make mistakes on purpose. Give the fans what they want without compromising yourself too. Just because you got buzz doesn’t translate into a concrete career. I will still cop the cd, but I was under the impression that Drake was alot smarter than these other rappers, but he has proven me wrong.

Hmmm…it seems to me like they were tryna make his first video a flop on purpose. Lots of people have made funny videos before…there is nothing wrong with that. The problem was the video had absolutely nothing to do with the song and it sucked. The quality of the production wasn’t the best. I am a film student I could make something way better than that trash that they made.

I found parts of the video funny personally, and Im a female. I just want to know why everyone expected this great video….its not that serious. I personally look at a video once and then never again.

I understood the humor, basically he says how songs should be dedicated to people and then dedicates the song to someone that remains un-named, meaning no one in particular, meaning “every girl in the world” that thinks he is talking to them at that point. Plus, best I ever had is not something a woman should want to hear, you are basically being compared 2 every other girl he’s slept whether it be a day ago, or an hour ago… and low-self esteem girls love it everytime! “Until them girls prove it” you’ve heard the rumors about his other escapades but don’t pay them any mind because he “says the same thing every single time” I can go on and on…

Drake is a breath of fresh air…I think his style of music is unique. And i love the fact that he is an intelligent young man. However, with that being said, the music video was not the best move. But, i think he realizes that and like he said he’s not perfect. No one is.
