MUSIC NEWS: NE-YO LEAVES THE STAGE IN TEARS DURING CONCERT

Friday, July 17, 2009

I’ve been getting a lot of emails about Ne-Yo’s concert in Manchester on Thursday night. According to eye witnesses at the concert, the R&B singer/songwriter was crying after struggling to sing on stage for more than half an hour. He told fans he had never not completed a show before but couldn’t continue with his performance.

CL reader, Emma from Manchester sent in the above video and blogged about the occurrence:

I took my ickle man to see Neyo in Manchester tonight and everything was going brilliantly until Neyo walked on stage half way through his gig crying and said he had never not finished a performance before….then promptly left ;o( The promoter announced that the concert will be rescheduled for all ticket holders and that Neyo will be back when they can fit it in and he is better…so there you go..he lost his voice..think there is more to it though. [source]

BBC Manchester presenter Karen Gabay was at the concert and said Ne-Yo looked like he had a “really bad fever”.

“Even after the second song, for a man who is normally so cool, he was sweating. He was doing a Michael Jackson tribute and you could see that he was actually struggling to finish every musical phrase. He kept asking the audience to bear with him. Then he actually was crying. I thought it was because he had done a couple of Michael Jackson tributes and he was getting a little bit overcome, but it did seem a bit strange. He was very emotional.” [source]

Looking at the video, something looks like it was tormenting him. We sincerely hope everything is alright with Ne-Yo!

well you kind of have to take into consideration the fact that he actually did get to work with michael for a period of time. so maybe aside of respecting him as an icon he got to know him as a person and maybe the death is still painful to him

5.

are you serious?

If he was overcome with emotion over MJ’s death, heck I cry every time I hear any of Michael Jackson’s songs. Neyo it will be okay. I think people now realize the impact Michael Jackson had on music and the world period.

I love a man who is not scared to show his emotions. I hope Ne-Yo is able to deal with what is bothering him, probably MJ’s death, but whatever it is I hope he gets better.

I feel him… He’s a human being with feelings. Everybody cries, young, old. Let it out Ne-Yo it will make u feel better. I love him, he’s a great entertainer.

Friday, July 17, 2009 /

I doubt if Neyo was cryin cuz of Mike. I mean being sad and crying is one thing, but being sad and crying at a show where folks paid to see you perform is another. We all know how to check our emotions at the door when we need to. I think something else was bothering Neyo; either he wasn’t feeling well, or something happened before he came on. He actually looks pained, not like a person who is sad someone died. Something else was amiss here.

18.

I have not been the same since Michael Jackson passed either. It is still unreal. Goes to show how one person in billions can change and have an effect on a nation. We can not let the world forget. We indiviually can have the same impact. Show each other that God is love.

Sharonda, what an ignorant thing to say!

I feel bad for him. He really looks like he’s in some emotional pain. I hate to see a man cry, but love the fact that a man who cries isn’t afraid to do so…and so publicly.

I hope it all works out for him.

For comment # 18, I have felt the same way since MJ died, I have not been myself.

I didn’t even know him…… but I felt that MJ was a genuine person that had a big heart and love for people in the world. There is a great void here on earth due to MIchael’s passing. The quailty of music will never be the same without him.

If Ne-Yo’s sad over that, I really do feel his pain.

@ 12:sharonda, you’re a f*cking retard
so what if he’s grown, does that make him less human. please take your ignorant self outta here
@ 27, what exactly is yout point cuz you sound like you have no idea of what you’re saying
it takes a real man to cry btw, someone who isn’t afraid to express his emotions.
i know he’ll make it through, keep ya head up Ne-Yo

@ #4 I agree with you. I LOVE Ne-Yo and doing the Michael Jackson tribute was hard for him. For some people who don’t think grown men or women don’t cry, there is something seriously wrong with you. People front all the time.

NE-YO is probably grieving over the sudden death of Michael Jackson. That’s just my opinion though. If he is grieving over the KING OF POP then I can understand that.

Chile I doubt this has anything to do with Micheal dying I’m sorrry. We all are empathetic and sympathetic, but really now. I’m sure something else is wrong that’s not related that we’ll find out later (or not). I hope he’s okay.

Let that man cry, he aint no rapper, he can cry. I don’t know if it was necessarily because he was still distraught over Michael’s passing, I mean he got through the performances at the BET awards just fine, and it just happened 2 days earlier, I think he may just have some personal things going on, sick family member or what have you, he’ll be alright.

38.

bebe

Friday, July 17, 2009 /

i doubt he was crying b/c of the show
he is always a professional and he still apologized and went up there and told the audience he was sorry
now him and his team are being professional enough to postpone the concert rather than cancel that is nice of him
you can definitely tell that something is wrong
hope all is well for him
his main priority shouldnt be pleasing the crowd but remaining healthy and happy
then continue to do what he does best wish is sing his heart out
whether you like him or not
you cant deny that he is a great performer

40.

peacekeeper

Friday, July 17, 2009 /

Ne-yo has been performing Michaels songs at his show (which have been many) since Michael died, and he did it w/o crying. So maybe he was very ill or something…doesn’t have to have anything to do with Michael.

To some of you Michael was just an artist but to most of us Michael was family. We grew up with him, went through the good and bad with him, watched him blossom into the greatest entertainer of all time. Michael and his brothers ushered us out of the death of the late, great Dr.King. Motown is the greatest entertainment movement of all time and Michael was at the center of that so life wont be the same for a lot of people all around the world.

I WAS AT D CONCERT COS I LIVE IN MANCHESTER, N I FINK IF PPL WERE DERE YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE WAT HAPPENED. FROM THE BEGINING OF THE SHOW HE TOLD THE AUDIENCE DAT HE WAS UNDER THE WEATHER AND THAT WE SUD BARE WIT HIM. THEN WE NOTICED HIS ENERGY WHILE PERFROMING WENT LOW BUT THE CROWD WAS SO HYPED UP IT WASNT AN ISSUE. SO LATER HE KINDA GOT EMOTIONAL BUT I PERSONALLY THOUGH IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE. DEN LATER WHILE SINGING FADE INTO THE BACKGROUND HE CAME OUT N APOLOGISED. I REALLY DO THINK DERE WAS SUMTHN BOTHERING HIM…EVEN THO HE SED HE WAS SICK I FINK DERE IS MORE TO IT. UNTIL DAT POINT THE SHOW WAS GREAT SO STILL I WILL SAY GUD JOB NEYO

It’s useless to speculate or judge him for crying. He obviously was upset and reached a breaking point - which just so happened to be in the public eye. If you care, the best thing to do is just keep him in your thoughts and prayers…it’s none of our business anyway, JUST LET THE MAN BE!!! SMH @ people calling him a b!tch, what if you found out tomorrow that his mom passed away or something, would he still be a b!tch? Some people just disgust me.

Ms. Thai

Friday, July 17, 2009 /

I swear this world has become so cruel and lacking of compassion. This man is onstage in front of a crowd that is giving him screams of adoration that he probably feels less than worthy of receiving after spending this past month viewing the celebration of the artist that started it all for African Americans in pop. I can only imagine what type of feeling overcame his spirit as he tried to tribute an icon whose talent was not only immeasurable, but whose impact was so profound that people have died and committed suicide out of sheer heartbreak from his loss. Damn, are we as Americans that de-sensitized that we can’t even remember what its like to mourn. When did we become so “hard” that we’ve determined a man to be soft or gay or having an emotional break-down because he simply can no longer contain what his heart is feeling? That’s exactly why men beat women, kill themselves, and take the lives of others. I sincerely hope that we are not teaching our children (especially our sons) that it is normal to internalize all of your feelings and emotions and allow them to manifest in a “man’s” way by killing and beating and exploding from what could have easily been soothed with a good deep soulful cry. Peace!
Love Thai P.S. Read the book of Revelations when you get a chance and know that this too will come to pass.

I was at the concert and it was verry over whelming. I felt so sorry for him when he came back on stage in tears. He explained that he wasn’t verry well and left the stage after saying “Trust Me When I Say I Will Be Back. Love Y’all” I was actually devastated when people started to boo him. If he is ill then he is ill. He’s only human he can’t help it. There’s a lot of rhumours going around about it though. He did perform some songs and its no where near as bad as people are making out. :| Shocked that people bood him though, and they call themselves Fans? Fakers x
